chapter 13

"She is inbound and ready. The doomsday device," Lance told them, leaning forward and pressing one of the buttons on the control pad to allow the device to appear in the air on the other side of the glass. "The Wellenreiter is fully operational and at the ready, mein Fuehrer."

The dark Waverider sent a chill through Callie's spine. A place that had once felt like home to her was not supposed to have been corrupted by this world - but yet, just like everything else that mattered to her - it had been.

"Shall we send her through?"

A pause hung in the air as Callie waited for Oliver to speak, afraid he would blow their cover.

"As scheduled."

"Is there anything else I can help you with?" General Lance said as he watched the two stare thorugh the window at the Dark Waverider taking off into the breach. Callie felt her throat get dry as she remember that members of her team and family were all alone on the other end of that portal.

Oliver shook his head, turning stiffly to look at the man. "No, that'll be all."

The hairs on the back of Callie's neck suddenly rose, the sudden awareness that everything was about to go incredibly downhill rushing through her body. Turning slowly to look at the General, she noticed the hardened look in his eyes that proved he knew exactly who they really were.

"Very well. Before I go, I have something for you, mein Fuehrer, and you too Falke. A gift to celebrate your return. Guard!" His voice echoed through the control room as the door burst open, both of the Earth-1 inhabitants turning to see two shivering bodies being shoved into the room.

Callie swore in her mind as she noticed exactly who the two on the ground looked like. While the woman was the splitting image of Felicity Smoak, the man was also this Earth's Ray Palmer. Callie felt her throat run dry as she stared at them, knowing exactly what was to come next.

"Well, I know how much you enjoy executing rule breakers, and this one has broken many of them. We discovered this Jewess handing her rations to the work camp children. Strictly against camp rules, of course. And this man, trying to help others escape!"

"Those children were starving," Felicity croaked, her voice harsh and raw from her screams.

Oliver took the gun from Lance's hand, passing the second one that was held out to Callie. He knew that he wasn't going to take the shot but he needed to think of a plan quickly.

"Well, this must be hard. I hear your doppelganger on Earth-1 loved a woman who looks just like this," Lance said to Oliver, a small smirk on his face as he realised that he had caught them out. Oliver ignored him, turning around and raising the gun to face the shivering woman.

Callie wasted no time in he rmovements. Turning around, she clicked her gun into position at the same time Oliver did. Taking a deep breath, Callie looked at Ray in front of her and reminded herself that this was not her Ray.

Pulling the trigger at the same time as Oliver spun around, Callie knew that Oliver had just blown it for both of them. Lance laughed loudly as he shoved the fake gun out of Oliver's hand as he looked between the two. Oliver shot Callie a small look of surprise from the corner of his eye as he realised that she was going to have shot Ray without hesitation.

"Did you really think I would hand you a loaded weapon before verifying who you are?" Lance yelled, his neck tense as he raised his arm to signal the start of gunfire.

Oliver ran forward, sending himself and Lance toppling to the ground as they tried to avoid the gunfire while fighting. Ducking to the ground, Callie pushed slightly at Felicity and Ray to shove them behind one of the desks and out of the way of the bullets.

Turning around to help Oliver, she was amazed to find that he had managed to already take out all of the Nazi soldiers. He ran straight over to where Callie stood, instantly leaning down next to Felicity and trying to calm her down.

"Hey, hey, hey, you're okay. You're fine. Just take this and go," he said, passing her the loaded automatic rifle that he was carrying. She took the gun from his hands, looking between Callie and Oliver in confusion.

"Why are you doing this?"

"It's the strong's duty to protect the weak," Oliver said, no hesitation in his voice as he looked at her. Callie felt her stomach drop as she realised that she wasn't as strong as she maybe had once thought she was.

"Take it and go," the raven haired girl said softly, passing her own gun that she had picked up from the ground to Ray. The man looked at her once more as the two rushed to the exit, one question hanging on his lips.

"How did you know it was unloaded?"

Callie paused, knowing that Oliver was not going to like her response to the man, but she felt like she owed the truth to him anyway.

"I didn't."

Ignoring the look that Oliver shot her, Callie turned to see that Barry had rushed into the room after Oliver had given the all clear. The man in red looked excited for a second before his eyes trailed across the room to notice all of the bodies on the ground.

"How did it...oh," he muttered, noticing that their plan had obviously not worked at all. He looked at the stare off going on between Callie and Oliver, confused as to what had happened minutes before.

Noticing the speedster, Oliver turned around and changed the subject. He would have time to speak to Callie later about their differences in handling situations.

"Barry, we have a problem. The gateway control's been damaged," Oliver told him, moving over to the control box that was hanging from the wall. He swore loudly, turning around to look at the other two in the room.

"We can't turn it on?"

Callie knew the answer straightaway. Having worked in these buildings for three years, she knew exactly how they could overcome this issue. "We can't turn it on here, but there's a manual override at the platform."

Barry nodded, a deep sigh falling from his lips at that fact that nothing was ever easy with them.

"All right, we're gonna have to fight our way through."

____

"In ten minutes, Red Tornado's gonna bring down this entire acility, and there's nothing we can do to stop that robot!" Leo told the the four of them that had all gathered in the control room. Callie sighed angrily, running a hand through her hair as she listened to him.

"Then we need to reopen the gateway before that happens. Barry, Ray," Oliver ordered, being interrupted by the two as they caught on to what their part in the plan was.

"We know. Stop a flying robot somehow," Barry sighed, rolling his eyes as the two of the prepared to take off.

"The rest of us will open the breach."

"That's the whole plan?"

"Well, as a Snart we know used to say, 'Make a plan. Execute the plan. Expect the plan to go off the rails. Throw away the plan'!" Barry joked, doing his best Snart impression as they all stared at him. Callie let a small smile fall on her lips as she watched the goofy man try to keep it light even in a very stressful situation.

"Wow. That is that is terrible advice. I always have a plan, down to the second, so nothing ever goes wrong!" Leo informed them, Callie's jaw dropping slightly as her and Barry exchanged shocked looks. That was not the Snart they remembered.

"No, no, no, the only plan now is not to leave this Earth without me," Ray told him, noticing that his boyfriend was getting very stressed. Grabbing his face with his hands, he allowed Leo to focus on him for a second before readjusting to the new plan.

"Ready for Tornado watch?"

"Let's do it."

Callie stepped back slightly as the duo sped out of the room, leaving Oliver, herself and Leo alone in the broken control room. She turned to face Leo, noticing the thick duffel bag that rested at his side. He pushed it towards them both, motioning to the gear that was inside.

"I thought it'd be fun if we put on our costumes," he joked, watching as Callie lifted a familiar crossbow and bow from the bag. Noticing the small bird that was etched on to the wood, she realised that he had taken this from the collection in the weaponry.

"Where'd you get the bow and quiver?" Oliver asked, moving it in his hand as he tried to get a feel for the bow.

"The general collects weapons. Let's go to war."

_____

Callie pulled Sara into a hug as they all regrouped. The blonde held her at arms length as she quickly looked her over for anymore injuries that she might have sustained during their mission into the control centre. Realising that she was unharmed, Sara quickly pulled Callie in for a kiss as the rest of the team prepared themselves to break into the platform.

"Don't you dare die in there," Sara muttered, looking deeply at Callie as they stood outside the facility. She knew that their track record for things had never been great, but she wouldn't lose her again. She couldn't lose her again. "I still need you."

Callie froze at those words, a memory that she didn't know she had rushing back into her head and taking over her thoughts.

Sara leaned forward, bring their intertwined hands to her lips as she stared longingly at the girl before her.

"Please don't leave me," Sara whispered, tears dripping on to their hands as she listened to the faint beeping of the vitals that Gideon was projecting. "I still need you."

Sara tried to force a smile on her face as she looked at the girl. "You know, Tommy once told me he thought we'd get married one day," she started to tell the girl on the medical chair. "I wasn't so sure, it was when you and Oliver had began dating and I was sure you'd never look at me as more than little Sara Lance."

Sara stopped again, allowing her thoughts to catch up with her mouth. She played with Callie's fingers as she let out a soft and pained laughed.

"Just as well you both ended that, we always knew you were into blondes. I thought we had agreed I was the blonde in this relationship," she joked, praying that Callie would wake up, running her hand through her newly dyed locks. "When we make it through all of this; the legion, the spear, all of it - I swear - I'll marry you."

"You said that to me," Callie muttered softly, drawing Sara's attention away from Oliver back to the broken girl that was standing in front of her.

"What?" Sara asked, her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at her deeply. She wasn't sure what the raven haired girl was talking about.

"When I was brainwashed by the league, you said that to me. That you needed me, and that Tommy believed we'd get married one day," Callie muttered, looking up at Sara. There was a determination in her eyes that Sara had long missed, and it was the first time she had seen Callie for who she once had been.

"I'll always need you Callie," Sara muttered, squeezing her hand gently as everyone got into position.

"Good, cause once this is all over - the Nazi's, the invasion, everything - we're going to have one hell of a wedding."
