Chapter 2~Money
SEPTEMBER 2018
SONG: BLING BLING
Here is what I was thinking when my mom dropped me off at my school for the first day.
Geez, these kids have money.
While walking through the campus all I could see were boys with expensive watches and girls with expensive shoes. It made me think about just how much dough my parents must-have. I mean I knew we were pretty well off, but I didn't think we were this well off. I guess when you have an annoying daughter you want to get rid of and enough money to do it it's no problem.
My mom had been absolutely silent during the car ride, though as we walked from the front entrance of the school to the main entrance, she would not shut up.
Of course, it was just me and my mom, my dad had to work at the office instead of seeing his only child and daughter go off to boarding school for four years. I thought I should get him something really good for fathers day. Though really, how the heck am I, a little 15-year-old who barely knows how to get into her shoes in the morning, supposed to be around all of these rich, smart, and... tall people. Especially starting two weeks later than everyone else.
Did I mention everyone was really tall?
Even the kids who were clearly freshmen were huge. Honestly, I bet that was a requirement for the school.
You had to be really tall and confident or you couldn't start on time with the others. They gave you a couple of weeks to grow, but if you came on the first day and still hadn't moved up they sent you home with supplements, a 'try again next year' sticker stamped to your back.
I silently laugh to myself at that crazy thought.
Anyway, that's what I was thinking as I mentally prepared myself for my first day at this prestigious school.
It about 5:00 at night now, and as we walked into the front office my palms starting getting sweaty which was really uncomfortable. The lady at the front desk is pretty young, she has dark umber colored hair and a nice smile.
"Hello, this is my daughter Allison Huntington. She will be starting today as a freshman," My mom greets nicely.
If only this situation was actually nice.
The woman looks down over the desk.
"Oh! Hello Allison," she says in a high-pitched voice.
You could tell she really hadn't seen me and didn't want to seem rude.
Maybe she is also short and can relate to me. Yep, she probably wants to be friends now and everything.
Make that 100 points for our short queen.
After shuffling around some stuff on her desk she looks back up at us, "Okay then, here is your room key, a map of the school, your syllabus, and schedule. I hope everything goes well for you!"
"Have a nice day!" My mom smiles and waves at the women like she's competing for Miss. America.
I roll my eyes at her fakeness.
With that, we head to the girls' dormitories which are all the way across the campus from where we are.
Great.
As we were walking my mom decided to start on her goodbyes. Even though I was currently very upset with her and my father I still have to fight the stinging in my throat and the tears in my eyes when she starts talking. My palms even start getting sweaty, an icky feeling as I rubbed my hand against my leg.
"So Allison, this is it I guess, you're going to high school all by yourself," Kill me now, I think to my self.
"You have been so strong for your father and me. We're really proud of you and I know you will do big things here. don't let us down okay?" A single tear runs down my mom's perfect face.
I almost scoff at her dramatics.
I felt like barfing at her words because I wasn't sure what 'us' she was talking about. I mean, considering the circumstances. She's acting like they are not getting divorced and they haven't been terrible parents lately.
Like they've been actually trying.
With that, she gives me one last hug and leaves.
For a second, I find myself sad.
