Chapter Nineteen

Gwen's ears perked up. "You... You know me?" She sounded excited, and her wagging tail proved she was.

The teens exchanged a glance. "Yes... We know you. But how'd you know us?"

"What animal doesn't know you?" she laughed. "Or, in my case..." They watched her walk behind a tree. Her tail slipped around until it was no longer visible. On the other side appeared their Gwen- a human version. "What mythical creature doesn't know you?"

"She's... She's a..." Preston Charming sputtered. He fainted and fell back, right into Max's arms. The shorter boy shook his head. "Ignore him, he's an overdramatic baby."

"Hey! Am not!"

They tuned out the bickering and faced the adult again. "So... You're a werewolf?" Neil asked. She hummed in response, examining her nails. "I'm assuming that little pest-" She shot a glare at Edward, "-disturbed me for a good reason. What can I do for you?"

"We need to hide the royal lovers," Harrison stated, jerking his thumb towards Maxwella and Preston. "And Edward said he knew a place."

Gwen nodded slowly. "I'm not too fond of him..." Her eyes burned into the rodent's skull. "But if it's for the prophecy and the future kings safety, I'll help. There's a place I know that's tucked away, a place where both of them can stay."

"Perfect!" Tink chirped, her eyes sparkling. "Mind leading the way?"

"I don't mind," she replied, slipping back around the tree. She came back around as a light brown wolf. "You guys can rest there, too. You look exhausted."

"We are exhausted," the scientist muttered. "Thanks for the offer."

"No problem," she purred, bounding over a fallen tree. "Now, are you coming or what?"
