Pocahontas

So I kind of struggled with this one. Not because I didn't know what to do, cause I figured that out real quick. I realized that I really don't care for Nab... and I struggled to keep the motivation to write this one... But I did it. It's not very long. I think it's shorter than the last one, but I did my writing for the day, and that's what matters.

Oh, and Nab might seem a little OC, but that's mainly because we don't really know that much about him... I mean he doesn't really do anything, which is another reason why I wanted to try a story out with him. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Main character: Nab

Disney story prompt for March 6th: Pocahontas

Nab stood in front of the request board like he did every day. He was getting a bit upset with everyone thinking he was useless just because he didn't take many jobs. He took jobs, just not as many as all the others. He wanted jobs that were perfect for him to do.

"Hey, Nab," Lucy said as she walked up to the board. "Trying to find a good job?"

Nab smiled at her. "Yeah. I..."

"Aw, come on, Luce. We both know he won't pick one," Natsu said as he walked up to them.

"Natsu, don't be rude," she said sternly as she turned to the dragon slayer.

"But it's true. He never goes on a job," Natsu said, whining a bit that he was getting scolded by his partner.

"That may be, but you still don't have to point it out. Maybe he'll pick one this time."

Nab frowned at their exchange. He looked at the jobs on the board, but didn't see any he cared for. He sighed, lowered his head, and walked away.

"Doesn't look like it," he heard Natsu say.

Nab got too far to hear any more of their conversation and walked out of the guild. He sighed again then headed over to the forest. He always felt more at home there than he did in the guild because the forest animals never judged him.

He walked into a small clearing and found an old tree stump to sit on. As soon as he sat down, a squirrel ran up to him and climbed up his leg. He smiled. "Hello, friend."

The squirrel chattered happily when Nab pulled a few nuts from his pouch and held it out. It took one of the nuts and nibbled on it.

A racoon placed its paws on Nab's leg and made a noise to get the wizard's attention. Nab smiled down at the creature and petted it on the head. "Why can't my friends be more like you guys?"

Two rabbits hopped over and jumped into his lap, while a sparrow landed on his shoulder. Nab reached up and carefully scratched the bird's neck and placed the remaining nuts on his leg so the rabbits could get them.

A loud crash resounded in the air and made Nab jump and his animal friends to scurry away. "What was that?" he asked as he stood up and turned to where the sound came from. He looked up and saw a bunch of birds flying away from the direction of the sound.

He sprinted through the trees and heard another crash come from up ahead. After another minute of running, he had to stop and catch his breath, placing his hand on the trunk of a tree for support.

"Come on. We have to find that gold before someone finds out we're here."

Nab walked over to some bushes and crouched down, pushing the branches aside enough so he could see, but not far enough that they could see him.

"What are you talking about? There's no one around for miles. No one is going to find us," a short brown-haired man said.

"We are being kind of loud," the blonde-haired man said as he looked around the area.

"Please. You think someone in town could hear that? Stop worrying. Now keep looking for that gold," the brown-haired man said as he used some kind of laser device to uproot another tree, causing another loud crash and the ground to tremble a bit, as well as leaving a huge hole.

Nab clenched his fists. 'These guys are destroying the forest just to look for gold?' He stood up and walked over to them before they uprooted another tree. "Hey! Stop that!"

The two men looked over at him wide-eyed. "Crap! I told you, Darel!" the blonde said.

"You have no right to destroy the forest like that. There is no gold here," Nab yelled.

Darel raised the device and pointed it at their would be enemy. "Don't come any closer."

"What are you doing?" the blonde asked in a slight panic.

Nab froze and held up his hands. "Whoa. Take it easy. I'm not gonna hurt you."

"Could've fooled me," Darel replied.

"Look, if you're really sure there is gold in this forest, then let me help," Nab said. "The animals know this forest better than anyone, so, if anyone can find it, they can."

"Darel, please," the blonde begged, pushing his friend's arm down.

Darel sighed and lowered the laser. "Fine."

Nab sighed in relief as he lowered his hands. "Why were you uprooting the trees anyway?"

"According to the text we found, the person who buried the gold in this forest planted a tree on top of it so no one could find it," the blonde explained.

"I see," Nab said as he placed his hand on his chin.

"Can you talk to animals or something?" Darel asked.

"Anyone can talk to animals," Nab said.

Darel sweatdropped. "Seriously?"

Nab whistled and a bunch of his animal friends came up to him. He knelt down so he was closer to them. "These guys are looking for gold that was buried under a tree. Do you guys know where that might be?"

"This guy is crazy," Darel said.

"Let's just go with it for now. I didn't like the fact that we were destroying the forest either," the blonde replied.

The animals ran off and Nab stood up and turned back toward them with a smile. "We'll give them a little bit to see if they can find it."

"Are you sure they can?" Darel asked skeptically.

"Like I said. These animals know the forest better than anyone," Nab replied.

"They're animals," Darel said unconvinced.

"Let's just give them a chance," the blonde said.

Darel sighed. "Whatever," he said then went over to a tree and sat down.

"I'm Raco, by the way," the blonde said.

"Nab."

Nab and Raco joined Darel by the tree and the three struck up a conversation. After a half hour, a racoon came up to them and chattered at Nab.

"Did they finally find it?" Darel asked.

Nab stood up. "Well, I think they found something," he said and followed after the racoon.

"He thinks?" Darel asked.

Raco smiled. "Come on. It's better than searching blindly."

The three men followed the racoon several miles into the forest before they came to a small tree. The racoon went over to the base of the tree and started digging then looked at Nab.

"I think that's the tree with your gold," Nab said.

"Great," Darel said and stepped forward, raising the laser.

"No," Nab said sternly as he grabbed Darel's arm to lower the laser. "There's no need to uproot any more trees."

"Then what do you expect us to do? It'll take hours to dig it up, plus it's supposed to be under the tree," Darel said losing his patience.

"I'll handle it," Nab said walking up to the tree.

"How?" Raco asked.

Nab turned to the man and smiled as a gray arua covered his hands. "I'm a wizard and can summon the spirits of any animal. Moles are great diggers, so this won't take long at all."

True to his word, it only took about 15 minutes before Nab pulled a small chest out of the ground. He placed it on the ground and Darel immediately knelt down next to it, while Raco stood behind him.

"Finally," Darel said as he opened the lid and stared at the massive amount of gold coins.

"Thank you," Raco said to Nab. "Darel, we should give him some for helping us."

"Give him some of your half," Darel said.

Raco shook his head and scooped up a large handful of coins and walked over to Nab, who was still sitting next to the tree. "Here. I hope this is enough."

"You don't have to do that," Nab said. "Just don't destroy the forest any more."

"PLease. I insist," Raco said pushing the coins closer.

"Alright," Nab agreed and pulled out his money pouch. He opened it up and watched as Raco poured the coins in.

"Well, we best be leaving," Darel said as he closed the lid and stood up with the chest, then turned to leave.

"Thanks again," Raco said as he followed Darel.

Nab waved at them then looked down at his furry friends. "Thanks guys. You helped me save the forest."

The next day, Nab found himself in front of the request board again, determined to find a job this time. "Alright. I'm gonna find one that's perfect for me."

In the end, he still didn't find a job and sighed as he picked up the drink from the table he sat at. 'Maybe I am useless.'

Did you like it? I'll admit that I wasn't too happy with it, but again, I blame that on not having any interest in Nab. Leave a comment below to let me know, and I really wouldn't blame you if you didn't like this one.

Tomorrow's prompt: Rapunzel
