Cinderella
Hey guys. So here is the second short story for my March Disney Writing Challenge. At first I had no idea what to do for this prompt, but then I thought about it and found the perfect story, so I hope you guys enjoy it.
Main character: Happy
Disney story prompt for March 2nd: Cinderella
"We're back!" Happy shouted as he, Carla, and Panther Lily flew through the doors.
"Welcome back," Mirajane called out from a table near the door where she was clearing off a few dishes.
"It's about time," Gajeel yelled as he walked up to the three exceeds. "Come on, Lily. We're going on a job."
"Huh?" Lily questioned, but Gajeel just grabbed his tail and pulled him out the door. "Hey! Wait! Gajeel!" he called out, but the door closed and no one knew what happened next.
Happy and Carla stared shocked at the now closed door for a few seconds before they turned to look for their own dragon slayers.
"Where's Wendy?" Carla asked Mira when she didn't see the blue-haired girl.
"Yeah, and Natsu?" Happy added when he didn't see his fiery partner.
"They're on a job with Lucy, Erza, and Gray," Mira answered. "They left yesterday and won't be back until tomorrow sometime."
"What? They went on a job without us?" Happy complained.
Carla also looked upset that Wendy left her behind.
"They said to tell you sorry," Mira said apologeticly, then turned to take the dishes to the kitchen.
Carla crossed her arms and dropped to the ground, her wings disappearing as she walked over to a table. Happy quickly did the same and sat down next to his white princess, but she just scoffed and scooted over to the other side of the table. Happy looked hurt, but she didn't leave the table, so he let it go.
"Heym Mira? Can I get a fishy?" Happy yelled to the white-haired mage.
"Sure. I'll be right there," she called back.
Happy smiled and turned back to Carla. "I can't believe they couldn't wait for us to get back from visiting the exceed camp to go on the job."
"While I'm not happy about Wendy going on a job without me, they can do whatever they want," Carla said.
"Yeah," Happy agreed.
Mira sat a plate with two raw fish on the table. "There you go," she said happily.
"Thanks, Mira," Happy said as he grabbed one of the fish.
Carla looked at the remaining fish and sighed before picking it up and nibbling on it.
The rest of the day went by pretty slowly for Happy. Without Natsu and Lucy to talk to, he was pretty bored. It wasn't like he didn't talk to any of the other guild members, but they weren't as funt to talk to. He looked over and saw that Carla was now transformed into her human form, which he realized she'd been doing a lot lately, and was talking with Cana and Levy. He walked over to join them, but froze when he heard Cana speak.
"You know, Carla, I think you and Romeo would look pretty cute together," Cana stated.
"Don't be ridiculous," Carla said sternly, but a slight blush was evident on her cheeks.
"Aw, why not?" Cana questioned with a smile. "You don't think he's attractive enough?"
"It's not that at all. Romeo is quite attractive," Carla said, the blush deepening.
Happy's eyes filled with tears as he walked up to them. "Is it because he's a human?"
The three girls looked down at him surprised. "Happy? When did you come over?" Levy asked.
"Why can't I ever be good enough for you?" Happy sobbed out, ignoring Levy. Before the girls could respond, he popped his wings out and quickly flew out of the guild.
He flew down several streets before landing in an ally. He wiped at his tears with his paws and tried to calm down, but remembering Carla's words hurt and made him cry even harder.
"Hey. What's wrong little guy?"
Happy lowered his paws from his eyes and saw a young girl about Lucy's age with black hair and dressed in a blue dress. "I'll never be good enough for her," he replied, sniffling a bit.
The girl knelt down so she was closer to him. "Girl troubles, huh?"
Happy just nodded, wiping at another tear that escaped his eye.
"Why don't you think you're good enough?"
"She's really pretty, and smart too," he replied. "She can also transform into a human form, which means she can be with a human boy who looks more attractive than I do."
"I see. Well, I think you look adorable," she said with a smile.
"But I can't transform into a human like she can," he said sadly.
"What if I could help you with that?"
Happy looked at her surprised. "You can do that?"
The girl chuckled and stood up. "Yeah. I call it the Cinderella potion, but it won't last long. You'll only have a few hours, but at least you can show her how attractive you really are."
"Do you think I would be attractive in a human form?" he questioned unsure.
"Sure you will," she reassured him. "You're so cute now that you'd have to be just as cute as a human."
Happy smiled. "Ok. Where is this potion?"
"It's at my home, which is just around the corner," she replied.
"Let's go then!" he said excitedly.
The girl chuckled and led him to her house. "I'm Liza by the way."
"Happy," he replied with a smile.
Liza chuckled again. "It's nice to meet you, Happy."
The reached Liza's home quickly and made their way to her room and pulled out a small bottle filled with a silver liquid. "Ok. Just drink this and make sure you imagine yourself in a human form," she said as she handed him the bottle.
Happy nodded and uncorked the bottle. He took a whiff of it and scrunched up his face at the smell, but took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and gulped it down.

Carla, who was now back in her cat form, looked over at the guild doors for the umpteenth time in the past hour.
"If you're that worried about him, you should just go look for him," Cana said.
Carla looked over at her. "I am not worried about that tom cat," she said in her stubborn way.
"What he said really bothered you, didn't it?" Levy asked.
Carla looked down at her paws. "A little, yeah. I... I didn't realize he felt like that."
"He's been head over heels for you since he met you," Cana said.
"Yeah, and you've been brushing off every advance he's tried on you, so it's not really that surprising he said that," Levy agreed.
"Though, why did he suddenly burst that out?" Cana asked grabbing her barrel of alcohol and taking a few big gulps.
"Well, you teased Carla about being a good match for Romeo, and Carla did say he was attractive..." Levy said.
"So the little guy was jealous," Cana burst out with a laugh.
"That stupid tom cat. How could he honestly believe I'd want to be with Romeo? He likes Wendy after all," Carla said looking toward the door again.
"Do I need to repeat myself?" Levy asked with a smile.
The door to the guild opened, which got all three girls' attention. In walked a young boy about twelve or thirteen with short blue hair and big, dark eyes. He wore a pair of black shorts with a light blue hoodie and brown boots.
"Who's the cutie?" Cana asked before she took another swig from her barrel.
"Cana, he looks like he's only Wendy's age," Levy bratted the brown-haired drunkkered.
"Perfect for you, eh, Carla?" Cana teased.
Carla swatted at her tormentor before looking back at the boy, a blush rising on her cheeks. 'He is really attractive.'
Happy walked up to the bar and sat down on one of the stools. 'Ok, just remember what Liza told you. Your name is Peter and you're from out of town.' He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"Welcome. Can I get you something?" Mira asked.
Happy jumped a bit. "Uh, fish please."
"Alright. Coming right up," she said with a smile before she turned to get his food.
Happy turned around and scanned the room for Carla. He smiled when he saw her at the same table as before with Cana and Levy, but now back in her cat form. He took another deep breath, jumped off the stool, and walked over to them. "Hi," he greeted with a big smile. "Can I join you?"
"Sure, kiddo. Drop it there," Cana said pointing to the seat next to Levy and Carla.
"Thanks." Happy sat down next to Levy and looked at Carla. "Hi, pretty kitty."
Carla blushed and looked away from him.
"Wow, Carla. I don't think I've ever seen you shy before," Cana teased.
"So, your name's Carla?" Happy asked playing along with Liza's plan.
"You should pretend your someone else," Liza said as she helped him fix his hair.
"Why?"
"It'll be fun, and you can see how she would react to you as someone she doesn't know. Girls usually act differently around a boy they like but don't know apposed to boys they do know."
"Oh. Ok."
"Y-yeah," Carla replied.
"So, what's your name?" Levy asked.
"H... Uh, Peter. I'm from out of town," he replied.
"Pete, huh? You know, you sound kind of familiar," Cana said.
Happy rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled nervously. "Uh, I don't know why."
Cana shrugged and lifted her barrel to chug it again.
Mira came over and placed a plate of steamed fish in front of Happy. "There you go. Enjoy."
Happy scowled at the cooked fish, but then remembered that he wasn't supposed to be himself. He looked up and smiled at Mira. "Thanks."
The four talked for a few hours, Carla eventually warming up to Happy and not being as nervous. They talked about several things, and Happy learned a lot about Carla that he didn't previously know. 'Wow. Liza was right. Carla is acting way different.'
"So, Peter, were you thinking of joining our guild?" Levy asked.
"Uh, well, actually, I..." Happy started, deciding he was finally done pretending, but a sharp pain shot through his body. He cringed and gripped his chest. 'No. Not now.' He stood up and started backing away from the table.
"Peter? Are you ok?" Carla asked as she stood up on the table and took a step toward him, a worried look on her face.
Happy smiled at her, happy that she was worried about him, but feeling a bit guilty for the same reason. "Yeah, I just..." he tried, but another pain shot through him. "I... I need to go," he finally got out as he moved backwards again.
Levy stood up, a worried look on her face too. "You look like you're in pain."
Happy smiled. "It just hurts that I have to leave a beauty like Carla."
"Wow, a real Romeo," Cana smirked.
Carla just blushed. "D-do you have to go?"
"I'll come back," Happy said. "Promise."
Another wave of pain shot through him and he felt his entire body start to tingle. He turned and ran out the door, pulling the hoodie over his head and dropping it on the ground so he could pop his wings out and jumped into the air.
"Peter!"
Happy looked down and saw Carla standing on the steps looking frantically around for him, then looked down and picked up his discarded hoodie. He smiled. After these last few hours, he finally saw that Carla really did like him... Well, Peter, but he was Peter, so she liked him. Another wave of pain shot through him and he felt the same burning feeling as when he transformed the first time and closed his eyes tight.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw that he was back in his cat form, the shorts and boots he wore now on the ground below. He looked over and saw Carla walking back into the guild with his hoodie clutched to her chest and smiled before swooping down, grabbing the shorts and boots, and flying off. He had some training to do.

It had been a week since Peter had left the guild, but Carla hadn't seen him since. She had actually gone out to try and find him on her own. She was worried about him because when he left, he looked like he was hurt and she wanted to make sure he was ok.
She sighed and walked into the guild, Peter's hoodie wrapped around her neck like a cape.
"Carla!" Wendy cried out as she ran up to the cat. She fell to her knees and pulled the stunned cat into a hug. "I've been so worried. Where have you been?"
"I'm sorry, child. I didn't mean to worry you. I was out looking for someone," Carla replied feeling a bit guilty.
"Hey, where's Happy?" Natsu asked as he and Lucy walked up to the two. "I smel him on you."
"Huh?" Carla asked surprised. "I haven't seen him since he ran out of the guild a week ago."
Wendy sniffed around Carla then grabbed the hoodie around her neck. "This has his scent on it."
"What?" Carla asked surprised and confused. "But that's Peter's."
"Who?" Lucy asked.
"No way. I know my little buddy's scent. That's definitely Happy's scent," Natsu said.
Carla pulled the hoodie off her shoulders and looked at it in her paws. "That was Happy?" she asked no one as a blush creeped on her face. Her face got even redder as her face twisted in anger. "That stupid tom cat!" She threw the hoodie on the ground and stomped away.
Wendy picked up the hoodie and stared after her feline friend completely confused. When she looked up at Natsu and Lucy, they were just as confused. She quickly followed after the white cat. "Carla, wait."
Carla hopped up onto a table and sat down, crossing her arms over her chest. "How could he just lead us on like that," she huffed, the blush not disappearing.
"Carla, why are you so mad?" Wendy asked as she, Natsu, and Lucy sat down at the table.
"It doesn't matter," Carla said. She spotted the hoodie sitting on the table in front of Wendy and grabbed it, holding it close to her chest. "I just hope he's ok," she said worried.
"Why wouldn't he be?" Lucy asked concerned.
"Before he left the other night, he looked like he was in pain, and now he's missing," Carla explained.
Lucy looked at Natsu concerned and saw him frowning. "We have to go look for him," he said as he stood up.
"You haven't already?" Carla asked.
"When we couldn't find you, we assumed you two went on a job," Wendy said.
The guild doors opened and they all turned to see Happy walking in looking a bit disheveled.
"Happy!" Lucy called out, drawing the blue cat's attention to them.
Happy smiled and walked over to them. "You're back from your job," he stated as he jumped onto the table and sat down in front of Natsu, who sat down when Happy came over.
"It's been a week, of course they're back," Carla said angrily. "And just where have you been?"
"I was training," Happy replied simply.
Carla looked at him surprised. "Training for what?"
"To be able to transform like you," Happy replied.
"So? How'd it go?" Natsu asked eagerly.
"Yeah, can you show us?" Lucy asked smiling at him.
"Ok," Happy said and jumped off the table. He closed his eyes and concentrated before a bright light engulfed him, making the other raise their hands and paw to block the light. When the light disappeared, a young boy about Wendy's age with blue hair and cat ears on his head stood in front of them. He was grateful that he learned how to summon his black shorts when he transformed.
"Wow!" Natsu called out.
"You're so cute," Lucy said, which made Happy blush.
Carla jumped off the table and quickly transformed into her human form and walked up to Happy. She put the hoodie over his head and helped him put it on.
"You kept it all this time?" Happy asked a bit surprised.
Carla ignored him and continued straightening the bottom of the hoodie, adjusting it ever so slightly. "There. A perfect fit." She looked up into his dark eyes, the blush returning once again. "Don't you ever worry me like that again, you hear me, Tom Cat?" she said sternly.
"Yes, ma'am," Happy said guitily as he hung his head.
Everyone was surprised when Carla pulled him into a hug and kissed his cheek. "I'm sorry it took me so long to figure out how I felt about you," she said quietly in his ear, even though she knew Natsu and Wendy could hear her with their advanced hearing.
Happy smiled and wrapped his arms around her. "So, will you be my girlfriend now?"
Carla pulled away enough to look him in the eyes. "Yeah," she said with a smile.
Happy's smile got bigger and he pulled her into another hug. 'Thanks fairy godmother Liza.'
And there it is. Again, I hope this didn't feel too rushed. It really feels weird not flushing out the idea more. Let me know in a comment below what your thoughts on it was and whether you liked it or not.
Tomorrow's prompt is Mulan in case you want to join me on this writing journey.
See you in the next chapter :)
