Aurora
Story number 5 in the March Disney Writing Challenge.
Guys, these stories are actually harder than I thought. This one was another one I struggled with to figure out what I wanted to do, but ultimately I'm really glad I chose this one, and I hope you guys like it too.
Main character: Gray (for the actual character of Aurora, but I think Juvia is more the main character)
Disney story prompt for March 4th: Aurora
A man crashed through a wooden door, busting it to pieces. Gray, only in his black pants and boots, stepped through after the guy and saw him unconscious. "Guess that takes care of him," he said with a smile.
As he walked over to drag the guy back to the others, a small, silver box caught his attention. He walked over to the small table it was sitting on and pisces it up, turning it in his hand. "What the heck is this?" He continued looking over the box, flipping it this way and that, but didn't see a way to open it.
"Gray, have you taken care of the one you were fighting?" Erza asked as she popped her head in the room.
"Yeah, he's unconscious," he replied jerking a thumb over his shoulder without looking away from the box.
"Very good. Let's get them tied up and to the authorities and head back to the guild," she replied then disappeared.
Gray looked down at the unconscious man and sighed. He grabbed the man by the collar of his shirt and dragged him through the busted doorway, the silver box still in his other hand.
It didn't take them long to get the captured men back to the local authorities, and soon Gray stepped through the front door of his small cabin that was on the outskirts of Magnolia. He sighed, dropped his bag on the ground, walked over to the couch, and flopped down onto it, closing his eyes as he rested his head on the back of the couch.
It was quiet in his home, since he lived alone, and after the long trip with Erza, who decided to lecture him about fighting techniques on the way back, he was grateful for the silence. He didn't know why he agreed to go on a job with Erza alone, but it did give him food money, so he couldn't really complain.
He lifted his head off the back of the couch when he heard something clank on the floor and saw the small box he found on the job had fallen out of his bag. "Oh, yeah. I almost forgot about that."
He got up and walked over to it, his long white coat and blue shirt being discarded onto the floor, and picked up the small box before taking it back to the couch. He fiddled around with it for a few minutes before he heard a small click. Several spikes shot out of all the sides and pricked two of his fingers, making him drop the box on the couch with a hiss.
He stuck his fingers in his mouth, as most people did, and stared at the box. When the pain died down, he removed his fingers and carefully picked the box back up. There still wasn't a way to actually open the box and he sighed in frustration before throwing it on the coffee table and getting up to get something to eat. "Maybe Levy or Lucy would have better luck with it."
He made it to the kitchen doorway before he had to place his hand on the wall as he suddenly got dizzy. "What the..." He stumbled into the kitchen and tried to make it to his dinning chair, but just before he could reach it, his legs gave out and he fell face first to the ground.
He pushed himself up on his elbows and shook his head. His vision was swimming and the whole kitchen looked like it was getting twisted into knots. After a few more seconds, his arms gave out and he feel to the ground, his head thankfully landing on his arm. "W-what's going... on?" he asked, but he didn't get a chance to think about it too much as his vision went black.
A bright light suddenly filled the room.

A few days later, Jubia walked up to Erza, Lucy, and Natsu who were sitting at one of the tables in the guild hall. "Excuse me. Havy any of you seen my Darling Gray?"
The three looked up at her. "Now that you mention it, I haven't seen him for a few days," Lucy said.
"He probably just took another job without telling anyone," Natsu said, brushing it off, and took a bite of the turkey leg he was eating.
"The last time I saw him, he said he was going to head home after our job the other day," Erza said.
"Maybe he just decided to take a few days off," Lucy suggested. "Did you check his house?"
Juvia looked down and fidgeted a bit. "No. He got mad at me the last time I did. Said I was invading his personal space and to not come back."
"And you actually listened?" Lucy asked a bit surprised. It was no secret that Juvia was obsessed with the ice mage and stocked him on a daily basis.
"I wished to respect my beloved's wishes," Juvia defended.
"Well, since he's been missing for a few days, you kind of have a good reason to check on him. Do you want us to come with you? He might not get as mad if we're there with you?" Lucy asked.
"Would you?" Juvia asked almost pleadingly.
"Of coarse," Lucy said with a smile. "What are friends for?"
Juvia smiled at the blonde. "Oh, thank you."
They all left the guild and headed to the outskirts of town to Gray's home. They made some small talk as the walked, but stopped when Lucy ran into Natsu.
"Hey, why'd you just stop like that?" Lucy asked as she rubbed her now sore nose that bashed into Natsu's shoulder blade.
Natsu sniffed the air and frowned. "There's a weird smell coming from up ahead."
"But that is where my Darling Gray lives," Juvia cried out in a near panic.
Erza summoned one of her swords. "Be ready for anything."
The four cautiously walked closer to Gray's home, and when they reached the clearing where his house was, they were met with what looked like several ice thorn bushes. "What the heck is this?" Natsu asked.
"Did Gray redecorate?" Lucy questioned.
Erza looked around the area and saw that the ice bushes completely surrounded Gray's house, and the only way to get through them would be to destroy them. "We have to get through these bushes and find out what's going on," she said.
"I'll go on ahead and check on my beloved," Juvia said. She turned her body into water and tried to go through the bushes, but she screamed and fell back to the ground in her solid form.
Lucy ran up to her and knelt down beside her. "Juvia! What happened? Are you ok?" she asked. Her eyes went wide when she saw that half of Juvia's stomach and right hip were completely frozen.
"As soon as I touched one of the bushes, it froze me," Juvia said surprised, pain lacing her voice a bit.
Erza walked up to one of the bushes and sliced at it with her sword, but the sword quickly froze and shattered, surprising the requip mage.
"Fire Dragon's Roar!" Natsu yelled out before a large stream of fire engulfed some of the bushes. He smiled when he stopped the stream, but that smile quickly turned into wide-eyed surprise when he saw his flames freeze and burst like Erza's sword.
Lucy helped Juvia stand and looked at the spot Natsu tried to burn away in shock. "If we can't cut them and Natsu's fire won't melt them, and touching them would make us freeze, then how the heck are we supposed to get through them?"
"Hey! Gray! You in there?" Natsu yelled. "What the heck is going on?"
They waited for a replied, but none came.
"You don't think he has been frozen, do you?" Juvia asked fearfully.
Erza raised her hand to her chin and looked down in thought.
"Man, if only Happy was here. He'd be able to fly over these stupid bushes," Natsu said.
Erza looked over at him proudly. "That's an excellent idea."
"Huh?" Lucy asked confused. "But he's with Carla and Lily visiting the other exceeds."
A bright light engulfed Erza as she summoned her black wing armor. She jumped up in the air and made it halfway to the house before the bushes grew instantly, blocking her path. She tried to go around them, but the rest of the bushes did the same, pushing her back to the others. When she landed, her outfit disappeared and returned to her normal armor.
"Ok. That didn't work," Lucy said bring her hand to her chin. "How are we supposed to get through then?"
Before anyone could respond, a loud, deafening roar filled the air. They all covered their ears and stared at the house where the roar came from.
"Was that a..." Lucy started after the roar died off.
"Dragon!" Natsu yelled excitedly.
A loud crash came from the house and they saw a large, silver dragon rising through the roof.
"Aw, yeah! I'm all fired up!" Natsu said with a huge grin on his face as he slammed a flaming fist into his palm.
Lucy, Juvia, and Erza stared at the massive beast wide-eyed. "Where the heck did that come from?" Lucy exclaimed.
The dragon let out another loud roar then shot a stream of ice towards the four wizards, who barely managed to move out of the way in time.
Juvia cringed when she landed on the ground, her hand touching the frozen spot on her stomach, and looked up to see the dragon now in the air above the frozen thistles. Something caught her eye, and when she turned her head, she saw Natsu run towards the dragon, jump, and land a fiery fist on the beast's head.
"Natsu! Be careful not to fall or you'll be frozen solid!" Erza yelled.
Natsu ignored her and shot fire from his feet, propelling him back toward the dragon, and landed on the flying lizard's head. He lit both fists on fire and started punching the dragon's head, but the dragon just flung his head forward and flung Natsu away. Natsu yelled out as he flew through the air and closed his eyes when he saw he was headed straight for a tree, but instead of the hard impact he was expecting, he hit a wall of something soft.
"Way to go, Ares," Lucy praised her spirit.
Ares blushed at the praise. "Thank you, Miss Lucy."
The dragon roared again and shot out another icy blast. Lucy raised her arm, knowing she wouldn't be able to dodge this blast, but before the ice hit, Erza jumped in front of her in her adamantine armor, the shield out in front of her.
"Thanks, Erza," Lucy said as she grabbed another key. "Open, gate of the archer! Sagittarius!"
A man wearing a horse costume, quiver, and holding a bow appeared. "Howdi do, my lady. What can I do for you?"
"We have to take that thing out," Lucy said pointing towards the dragon. "Aim for it's weak spots."
"Righty-O," he said as he pulled three arrows from his quiver and shot them.
Natsu followed the arrows, his fist lit up again. "Hey! Tell me where Igneel is!"
"Natsu, I don't think this dragon is gonna know anything about Igneel!" Lucy yelled.
Sagittarius' arrows hit under one of the dragon's wings, on the dragon's neck, and at the top of the dragon's chest, the first two bouncing off of it, but the one in its chest burning itself deep, making the dragon cry out. Natsu followed them with an attack of his own and hit his flaming fist where the arrow was, the dragon's chest turning red for a moment, causing the dragon to fall back a bit.
The dragon batted Natsu away, sending him flying towards the tree again, but Ares used her wool wall to catch him again. "Dang it, you blasted popsicle!" Natsu yelled angrily.
Juvia sat on the ground watching the whole thing and saw that the combined hit on the dragon's chest seemed to actually damage the beast, unlike all the other hits. "Erza, give me your flaming sword," she demanded as she stood up and held out her hand.
"Huh?" Erza questioned.
"I have an idea. Please," Juvia begged.
Erza nodded when she saw the determined look on the water mage's face. She summoned her flamming sword and haded it to Juvia.
Juvia looked over to Ares, who was trying to hit the dragon with wool balls while Sagittarius continued to shoot arrows at it. "Ares, can you use your wall to fling me towards the dragon?"
"I can try," Ares replied. She sent a string of wool out and wrapped it around Juvia's waist, planted her feet firmly on the ground, and shouted as she flung Juvia with all her might into the air.
Juvia held the sword out in front of her with both hands as she flew towards the dragon, and as she got closer, she shouted, "Give me back my Darling Gray!"
The sword plunged into the dragon's chest in the same spot as the arrow had, and flames started crawling over the dragon's chest until it engulfed the dragon completely. The dragon cried out and batted Juvia away, sending her flying and hitting a wool wall like Natsu.
"Why did your flames work and not mine?" Natsu pouted.
They watched the dragon burn and cry out before it slowly disappeared into nothing.
"Thanks guys," Lucy told her spirits as they disappeared.
"I believe it was because the flames got inside the dragon, unlike yours, Natsu," Erza answered. She was now back in her normal armor again.
Natsu just crossed his arms and huffed.
Lucy shook her head. "You'll get over it," she said to Natsu, then turned to Juvia. "How's your side doing?"
Juvia looked down and saw the ice was gone. "It's gona and it doesn't hurt anymore."
"The thistles are disappearing as well," Erza said.
They all turned and saw that the bushes were indeed disappearing, and Juvia sprinted toward the house, the others following close behind.
"Gray, my darling!" Juvia called out when she burst through the door.
"His scent's strongest in the kitchen," Natsu said.
Juvia ran to the kitchen, but froze, her eyes going wide, when she saw Gray on the floor not moving. "Darling!" she cried out as she quickly made her way to the man and knelt down beside him, scooping him up into her arms. "Dear, wake up," she begged.
He didn't move.
"We need to get him back to the guild," Erza said.
Natsu walked over to the two and carefully picked Gray up and onto his shoulder. They all made a mad dash back to the guild to find Wendy.

It had been two days since they fought the dragon and found Gray unconscious, and there was no sign of Gray waking up. They called on Porlyusica to see if she would be able to tell them what was wrong with their friend, but even she didn't know how to help him.
Juvia lifted her head off of Gray's bedside. She had not left Gray's side for even a moment and would always fall asleep on the side of his bed. "Please wake up, my love," she said sadly as she took his hand.
"Everyone is doing everything they can to help him," Lucy said as she pulled up a chair and sat down, laying a plate of food on the bed in front of her friend. "Mira asked me to bring you this."
Juvia looked at the food then back at Lucy. "Thanks, but I'm not hungry."
"Juvia, you haven't eaten in two days. Your body needs food."
Juvia looked at Gray's face, a tear falling down her cheek. "How can I do so when my Darling Gray won't wake up?"
Lucy placed her hand on Juvia's shoulder. "We'll find a way to help him."
Juvia looked back at Lucy, the tears now flowing down her face. "I don't know what I'll do if... if..." She couldn't finish the sentence.
Lucy pulled the woman into a hug and let her cry. She looked at Gray over Juvia's shoulder and frowned. "He's going to be ok."
"I found it!"
Lucy and Juvia both jumped and looked at the door to see Levy standing there with a book raised above her head.
"You can wake my Darling Gray?" Juvia asked hopefully as she wiped away her tears.
"I found the way to do so, yes," Levy said as she walked up to them. "Gray is under a special sleeping curse that was put on that silver box you guys found at Gray's house." She opened the book and continued. "According to this, that dragon you fought was actually the box itself, and a spell was cast on it to make whoever tried to open it fall into a coma. The box would absorb that person's magic energy and use it to keep anyone from sealing it away."
"Wait, so the frozen bushes were there to protect the box?" Lucy asked.
"Yes. They were there to prevent anyone from reaching the person under the curse from being saved. It was essentially a trap so that whoever set the trap could take that wizards magic energy."
"Ok, and you know how to free him from this curse?" Lucy questioned.
"The one who slayed the dragon is the only one that can," Levy said and turned to Juvia. "You said you delt the final blow to the dragon, right?" Juvia nodded and Levy smiled. "Then you'll love thes. You have to kiss him to break the curse."
Juvia's face went beat red. "K-kiss my Darling Gray?"
Lucy smiled at her friend. "You've been wanting to do that since you met him, right?"
Juvia looked down and squirmed as she fiddled with her fingers. "Y-yes, b-but I never... I mean... I wanted..."
Lucy rolled her eyes at the stammering mage. "Just kiss him."
Levy chuckled. "You know, your roles are being reversed."
Lucy and Juvia looked at the small girl confused. "What are you talking about?"
"In the stories, it's usually the prince or knight that has to save the princess, but this time it's the opposite," she explained.
Lucy chuckled. "Well, Natsu is always calling him 'Ice Princess.'" This got a laugh from all of them.
When their laughter died down, Juvia stood up and looked down at Gray. She blushed again as she leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on his lips.
Gray instantly started shifting and opened his eyes only to freeze when he saw Juvia's face inches away from his and a pressure on his lips. He quickly pushed her away and sat up. "What the heck are you doing?" he asked, a blush creeping up his cheeks.
"Calm down, Gray," Lucy said. "She was only breaking the curse you were under."
"What curse?" Gray asked looking at the blonde.
"The sleeping curse that box put you under when it pricked your fingers," Levy said.
"And she had to kiss me to do it?" Gray asked.
Juvia looked at him sadly. "Are you upset it was me?"
Gray looked at her then over to the window, the blush on his face deepening. "No."
"Hey, better her than Natsu," Lucy said with a smile.
"What?" Gray and Juvia asked at the same time. They both looked at each other then down at the floor, still too embarrassed to look at each other.
"Natsu was almost the one who defeated the dragon. If he had, Natsu would've been the only one who could wake you," Lucy explained.
"I would've rather had stayed asleep if that happened," Gray said a bit disgusted at the idea of Natsu kissing him.
Juvia looked toward the door with a scowl. 'Love rival!'
"Hey, it doesn't matter because your prince charming saved you," Levy said.
"Prince charming?" Gray asked confused.
"Yeah. Juvia was the prince charming that had to wake the ice princess," Lucy said, teasing him with Natsu's nickname for him.
"That dang flame brain," Gray said aggravated when he understood her joke.
"So, you're not mad that I was your prince charming?" Juvia asked looking down at her lap.
Gray looked at her and smiled. "Nah. It's fine as long as it's you that's my prince charming."
Juvia looked up at him surprised then flung her arms around his neck. "Oh my love!"
Gray wrapped his arms around her and rolled his eyes when he saw Lucy and Levy smirking at his confession.
And there we go. I have to say, I am liking turning the guys into the princesses. Hehe :D What did you think about Gray embodying his "Ice Princess" role? Let me know in a comment below.
Tomorrow's prompt is Anna and Else... I actually have an idea of who I want to be the main characters on this one, but I still have to figure out what to do... These girls have a lot of things going on...
See you in the next chapter :)
