Chapter 7 - Camping
"It's gotta be this one," Levy explained looking up from her map.
"I really hope so," I moaned, my feet hurt and I was tired from walking through the mountain range. I guess Levy had used her plan to figure out that Gale's mountain would be this one. However, this mountain wasn't icy like Mount Hakobe, it was rocky and full of trees that loomed over us. It was also pretty rainy. Luckily Levy knew this ahead of time and we all packed rain boots and ponchos.
"So how do we find her?" PantherLily questioned.
"From the rumors I heard, she doesn't stay in one place for too long. She keeps near to the base of the mountain, so we'll probably find her there," Storm explained.
"Do you expect us to just wander the base of the mountain until we trip over the shortie?" Gajeel growled. Storm looked up at him in defiance and annoyance. I rolled my eyes and looked over Levy's shoulder at the map. She had drawn X's on the places Gale had already been and circles on places that we could check.
"Nashi?"
"Wha-" I perked up.
"Are you okay?"
"Mhhm, just lost in thought I guess," She gave me a skeptical look but turned her attention back to navigating. I felt someone brush a finger against my hand, when I turned I saw it was Storm.
"What's up?" He whispered, knowing that something was up.
"Nothing," I responded quietly. Storm made a face, he wasn't satisfied with that answer. I could tell that he wasn't going to let this go so easily. "We'll talk about it later,"
"It's getting late, we should camp here for the night," Gajeel said, already taking his bag off. The rest of us followed suit and unloaded our stuff.
An hour later, the tents were set up and we had a fire started. It was still raining slightly so Lily had flown into the trees and tied a tarp over our camp site to keep the rain off. The ground was pretty damp from all the rain so anywhere away from the fire was frigid. With this in mind, I was sitting on a log up close and next to the fire trying my very hardest to stay warm.
"Hey shrimpy, come help me find fire wood," Gajeel called out. Levy made a face at the nickname, but followed Gajeel into the woods to find firewood. Looking down at the pile of firewood the boys had already collected, I figured Gajeel didn't bring Levy to find more wood.
I didn't want to eavesdrop, but with dragon hearing it's kinda hard not to notice.
"I'm not the only one worried about Gale am I?" Levy questioned. Gajeel made a grunting sound confirming Levy's inquiry. "Gale is a smart girl, I'm sure she's fine,"
"Yeah I know,"
I smiled to myself, no one ever got to see this side of Gajeel. I was glad to see that he was finally opening up to someone.
"What are you smiling at?" Storm asked from behind me.
"Nothing," I smirked.
"I think all the sunshine might've fried your brain now. You're smiling at nothing you know,"
"I've got a reason for smiling, you just don't need to know that right now,"
"Speaking of not knowing anything... what were you thinking about earlier?"
I didn't say anything at first. I just sat there in front of the fire, trying to keep warm. Eventually Storm caught on, he stepped over the log and sat down next me in front of the fire.
"We haven't really had a chance to catch up. What happened that day? That woman, did she-"
"I don't know," I interrupted, not making eye contact with one of my closest friends. "I have no idea what happened after that day,"
"What do you mean?"
Mildly frustrated, I finally looked him in the eye.
"Storm, I don't have any memory of the past three months. It's all a blank," Storm's expression was shocked, it was clear he didn't know how to respond. "the only clues I had were in my bag and they were barely even clues at all,"
"Nashi," Storm whispered. He pulled me into a hug, which made me feel a little less alone. "I'm sorry,"
"It's not a big deal," I said pulling away. "Let's just focus on finding Gale,"
"Nashi, this is three months of your life you can't even recall,"
"Three months I didn't spend in my own time or with my own friends. As far as I'm concerned, they didn't even happen,"
"How can you say that?" Storm stood up forcing me to look back up at him. "Those three months were still pieces in your life. You can't just throw away pieces of your life and say that they don't matter,"
"Well maybe I don't want to remember!"
My words stopped Storm dead in his train of thought. His breathing was cut short and I could hear his heart rate elevating.
"I lied about the only clues being in my backpack... there are clues all over my back as well,"
"W-what do you mean?"
"I did tell everyone that I woke up a few weeks ago without my memory, I didn't tell anyone that I woke up in a puddle of my own blood and a dislocated shoulder."
