Chapter 4 - Avalanche

A half hour must have passed and the four of us were still trudging up the snowy mountain looking for our objective. Our objective, I was later told, was to obtain magical Mount Hakobe ice. The job is for an ice manufacturer who claims that the ice on Mount Hakobe will never melt and it's so hard and strong that no blade can scratch it. The client who hired us also gave us a light pen that is said to be able to cut right through it. The ice is so coveted though because of it's magical properties. It's said that the stuff is an energy booster that can actually cure minor illnesses.

"So all we gotta do is get the ice?" I questioned.

"How hard could it be?" Happy added. "By the way I brought us some fish for us to snack on," The exceed flew down and opened his pack revealing seven fish still moving. "Ta-dah! Snacks of champions,"

"Woah, so fresh they're still wiggling," Natsu pointed out.

"And since we've got a fire wizard with us, we can cook em' any time,"

"Hey do whatever you want with yours but I'm eating mine raw,"

Just then the wind picked up and we were all blown with the icy cold air of the mountain. I grabbed at the sides of my fur lined cloak, pulling it closer to me. "Ah! It's getting way to cold out here!" I shrieked. Then there was another rumbling like thunder and suddenly the snow beneath us cracked and a huge chunk next to us fell.

"That could've been us!" Natsu shouted. "Let's move!" We all turned to hightail it out of there when the snow beneath our feet gave way and we were sent sliding down the snow. I heard yells all around me as our tumbling formed a gigantic snowball that went barreling down the mountain, with us inside.

"Whoa whoa whoa WHOA!!!" I screamed. Eventually we hit something and the four of us were sent flying into more snow. "Ugh, have we stopped yet?" I moaned, after sitting in the cold snow for a few minutes, I managed to get up. "What just happened?"

"Your shouting caused an avalanche and it knocked us into this ravine," Happy explained, pulling Natsu and Lucy both out of the snow. Another gust of wind sent shivers down my spine making me wish for the comfort of my warm bed.

"I'm pretty sure this blizzard is picking up strength," I observed.

"Well if we wanna get back, we'd better hurry up," Natsu declared.

"Okay, which way is that?"

"uhh,"

"While it's a great idea, I hate the idea of trying to climb that cliff," Lucy pointed out. I looked over and sure enough we were surrounded on all sides by jagged icy cliffs.

"That's because climbing is for monkeys and chumps," Happy gloated. "I can fly you three right out of here lickity split," Happy grabbed a hold of Lucy's back pack lifting her off the ground.

"Sometimes I forget how useful you are," Natsu pointed out.

"yeah well maybe I'll forget to come back for you," Happy managed to fly Lucy just over the cliff's edge when the wind picked up and sent them both flying back down into the ravine head first in the snow.

"Whoa that crash landing looked freaking awesome! I wanna turn! Let me try!" Natsu cheered.

"THIS ISN'T A GAME NATSU I NEARLY FREAKING DIED!!" Happy and Lucy shouted.

Since flying in this blizzard was a no go, we were forced to climb our way out. Natsu and I went first, we melted the ice covering the rocks so Lucy could climb up the cliff without the risk of slipping off. Eventually the four of us made it out alright and we made our way through the snowy slopes of the mountain.

"Soo, coold," Lucy moaned. We were planning on going back down the mountain to rest and wait out the blizzard, but since we lost the map in the avalanche we didn't have a clue where we were going. Happy was in my arms since I could warm him up with my magic, it was also warming me up a bit, but with the cold wind making my fur lined cloak fly open it wasn't all that helpful.

"Hey guys, I'm gonna go look for the map in my dreams," Happy sighed.

"Oh no you don't!" Lucy whirled around, snatching the exceed out of my arms and smacking him in the face several times. "Come on wake up cat! You know what happens if you fall asleep in the cold? You'll never wake up and we'll have to eat you, do you want that to happen?" After lots of shouting and shaking, Lucy managed to wake the exceed. I rolled my eyes and kept walking, using my magic to warm my hands and hug my torso.

"Hey look over there!" I pointed. In the side of the mountain was a cave opening big enough for us to go into. The three of us bolted for the cave knowing that it was our best chance of survival in this blizzard. When we ran inside, it was immediately much more hospitable than the treacherous blizzard outside.

"whoa, how far do you think it goes?" Lucy pondered aloud.

"Why don't we find out," Natsu smirked, he lit a fire in his hands so we could see where we were going. As we got further in the cave it became more and more beautiful.

"Maybe we should head back while we still know the way," Lucy suggested, not wanting to get too far away from the entrance.

"Don't worry, I can still smell the entrance," I explained. We took a few more steps when suddenly something changed.

"What's up," Happy asked.

"The air current just changed out of nowhere," Natsu stated.

"So that's not normal? What kind of shift was it?"

"To be honest I couldn't tell ya," Suddenly there was a huge shaking sound and the stalactites hanging from the roof began to fall. "Everyone get out of the way!" Natsu yelled. We all made a mad dash out of the way avoiding falling ice left and right. One of them just barely grazed my cheek before I moved out of the way.

"We gotta get out of here!" I shouted. The four of us bolted further into the cave to escape the falling ice. We took two more steps when suddenly the ice we were standing on cracked and shattered. We were all sent falling into what apparently was the real floor of the cave.

I let out a loud oof as my butt collided with what seemed to be an icy slide that led further into the cave. "What is up with this cave?" I shrieked.

"This probably isn't the best time to mention this, but before we left Fairy Tail I talked to Levy," Happy started. "She said that she read about this cave in Mount Hakobe that changes shape. She said that no one who has ever been inside it has ever made it out alive. Woah!"

Just as Happy finished, his claws went loose and he was sent flying back behind us. I reached up and caught the flying furball before he fell off the icy slide. "Gotcha,"

"Thanks,"

My eyes went wide at what was up ahead, "guys the path is going to split," I yelled. Everyone looked forward, sure enough the slide we were on was about to split left or right. "Do we go left? Right?"

"right"

"right?"

"no, left"

"so left?"

"Right,"

"Okay I'm going right," I shifted my position to go right.

"No I said left!" Natsu argued.

"You said right!"

"No I didn't!"Before I could change direction it was too late. Natsu and Lucy went on the left slope while Happy and I went on the right slope. "Nashi!"
