Chapter 25 - One Year

August 22, X792
One year since Fairy Tail disbanded.
Nashi:

"Nashi let's go!" Gale called out. "We're gonna be late,"

My eyes snapped open and stared at the alarm clock that read 5:47 AM. "Shit," I hissed as I threw off the covers.

"Come on Birthday girl! Don't wanna be late for your job," Kali cheered.

"Yeah, I know!" I replied with a smile. "I'm coming."

I raced to the closet and hustled out of my pj's as fast as I could. I slipped on the black halter top with orange trim while rapidly hopping into my long white jeans with brass snaps on the sides. I ran to my desk grabbing the orange sash and brown belt hanging on the chair and layered them over my waistband.

"Shoes," I muttered. I scanned the floor and saw the brown right boot under a pile of laundry. I snatched it off the floor and balanced myself on one foot to put the boot on. As I zipped it up, I searched for the left shoe.

I threw dirty laundry aside and pushed away clean unfolded laundry and found it under the dresser. I grabbed the hairbrush off the desk and put the handle in my mouth to hold it while I put on the boot.

Bursting through the bedroom door, I hopped down the hallway while zipping up my boot. Once it was zipped and secure I took the hairbrush and started brushing my hair. In the past year, it had gotten long enough that it was 3/4th's of the way down my back. In other words, hard to manage.

I threw the hairbrush back into my room as I rushed to the kitchen and grabbed an apple out of the fruit bowl. Picking up the back-pack by the couch I slung it over my shoulders and speed-walked to the front door. When I opened the door I was met with a dark sky and four grouchy faces.

"Alright guys let's go, don't wanna be late," I smiled. Everyone stared at me with fed-up expressions and arms crossed. "What?"

"The door!" Gale yelled, pointing at the unlocked door to our 4-bedroom apartment.

"Right," I corrected myself, pulling out my keys and locking the door. "Now let's go," Everyone sighed with aggravation and we started walking.

The sky was still dark with a small line of yellow light on the Eastern horizon as morning began to arrive in Magnolia. The town was quiet as people began to wake up and start their day. As the light began to illuminate the streets, windows began to light up and vendors started arriving to set up their stands.

"You know I really wanted to sleep in on my special day," I joked.

"You can take a nap when we get home," Reiki answered.

"Happy birthday Nashi," Gale smiled and tossed me a small paper bag tied with string.

I grinned and began unwrapping the present. Wrapped in the brown paper was a gold necklace with a small charm shaped like the sun.

"We all pitched in some money to buy it," Kali explained.

"Thank you guys," I smiled and placed the necklace around my neck. "It's really beautiful,"

Everyone smiled and told me it was the least they could do.

"Mornin' kids," One of the vendors greeted with a warm smile.

"Good morning Mazio," I cheered. Rushing up to his stand I gave him the biggest smile I could offer and asked. "Did you save us any leftovers?" I asked sweetly.

"I always do," The older gentleman replied. He reached under the table and pulled out five plastic bags of fresh donut holes. I sighed at the sight with hearts in my eyes as he handed a bag to each of us.

"Thank you," I squealed.

"You're welcome," Mazio smiled. "You kids heading off for training?" He asked.

"Not today," Kali muttered with a mouthful of donuts. "We got a job,"

"Well you kids be safe," He advised. We all nodded and said thank you before starting to walk again. "See you tomorrow," He called out.

We waved and smiled saying "see you tomorrow," as we walked away.

In the past year, we had tried to stay under the radar as best as we could. We avoided drawing any kind of media attention towards us and we never told anyone who we actually were. When people asked who we were, we said we were just former Fairy Tail wizards.

It honestly got really annoying when we had to tell people that we aren't in a guild, but we still do guild work.

Money runs tight without an active guild employing us, but we manage to pay for rent at a 4-bedroom apartment in town. It was a smaller place and felt cramped at times, but it was nice to live with my friends. It was great to live with my team, we would eat together, hang out together, and train together.

Every morning we leave for training at 6 a.m. It starts with a run to the forest, stretches, basic workout, then magic training on our own, and followed by combat training together.

We really had our routine down pat and we had all gotten so much stronger. It felt like we could take on anything with how much stronger we had gotten. I even mastered a few new spells to use in combat.

Life was good.

While the past year had been a long wait in a time that wasn't our own, we knew that we were here for a reason and we were okay with that. We made the best of every day and waited patiently for the day that we were all waiting for. The day that Fairy Tail would be revived.

Walking on the path that we had paved through the forest, we made our way to where a mansion sat on top of a hill a couple of miles ahead.

"So which one did you pick for today?" Gale asked with her hands behind her head.

She was wearing black pants with brass snaps like mine and a lavender tank top with long necklaces. Her arms wore long fingerless gloves with metal plating surrounding the joints. She had also gotten a nose ring and an arm tattoo that went around her right arm. Of course, she had also redyed her hair dark purple.

"Tomb Raid," Reiki answered.

His work clothes hadn't changed that much compared to Gale's. He wore a long brown coat with a popped collar, tan pants, boots, and a burgundy shirt. He added flair to it by giving himself protective leather gauntlets on his hands to prevent injury when punching. He always kept his sleeves rolled up and wore a series of belts and suspenders that were probably just for show.

"Can we get a more detailed explanation?" Storm asked.

Storm was shirtless most of the time anyway, but when he still had his clothes on he was wearing baggy pants and a white t-shirt. Over the shirt, he wore a long navy coat similar to Reiki's and a brown belt.

"Some rich snooty guy inherited a big house that apparently has a secret entrance to an old booby-trapped tomb. He wants us to get in and disable all of the traps and bring him whatever we find in there," I explained.

"What if we find a mummy?" Kali joked, pretending to be an undead mummy. "I want your brains,"

"I guess we'll ask when we get there," Storm answered.

When we finally got to the top of the hill, we stepped onto the porch and knocked on the door. When the door swung open we were greeted by whom I'd assume to be the butler.

"Can I help you?" He asked.

"You called for the cleaners?" I joked. "We're here to clean out this tomb your boss found," I laughed. No one else was laughing at my joke, making the situation very uncomfortable.

"Are you with the wizard's guild?" the butler questioned.

"Would we be here if we weren't?" Gale sassed. The butler looked down his nose at us and motioned for us to enter.

"Please wait here," He told us. I gave him the thumbs up and he left us in the foyer.

"This place is nice," I wondered out loud. The walls and ceiling were dark blue with gold accents all over. In the center of the ceiling was a sun carved out in gold.

"Don't touch anything," Reiki scolded. "you don't want to break something and be indebted to rich people for the rest of your life,"

"Please," I scoffed. "I'm a lot more careful than I look," I went to lean against the wall and accidentally backed into a mint green vase. The vase wobbled and began to fall, but my reflexes were fast enough that I managed to catch it before it hit the ground. I breathed a sigh of relief and placed it back on the pedestal.

"Careful," Storm warned. "I heard the last person who broke a vase like that was indebted to a group of rich boys for most of her life."

I stuck my tongue out at him in a mocking way and he responded with the same expression.

"May I present Sir Thomas Harold Solarius the third," The butler announced as a man in a white suit entered the room. He was tall with brown hair and blue eyes and held a composure that demanded the room's attention.

"Thank you for coming," He greeted. "Now let's get right down to business, shall we," He gestured into another room and we followed him into what appeared to be a library. In the center of the opposite wall was a fireplace large enough for two doors. The fire that was burning was held in a large bowl in the center of the fireplace. It was a strange design I'll admit. Engraved in the stone above read "spiritul soare cereasca."

"I stumbled across this last month after one of my galas. I was leaning against the side here when I accidentally pressed down on this carved out piece right here," He pointed to a carving of a mandala that had been raised from the stone.

I ran my finger across the stone and felt the center of the Mandala give-way. I pressed down on it and heard a low clunk coming from inside the fireplace. The sound of gears turning alerted me that something was happening. Then the bowl of fire was lowered into the ground and two stone doors slid over where it had been. The back wall of the fireplace slid open revealing a staircase curving underground and the torches on the wall lit ablaze with a yellow flame.

"So you want us to go down there and clear out the booby traps so you can get whatever's in it?" Storm clarified. Solarius nodded and waved his hand down the staircase for us to enter.

"Let's do this," I laughed.
