|Chapter 46| I'm Sorry
"What do we do with him?" Reiki was sitting by the grey wall, he turned his head towards Rin. Who was still passed out on the floor, where Storm left him.
Nashi spoke lowly, "Leave him. I'm sure he knows his way around." She swallowed the lump in her throat, stopped the crying, and stifled her sniffing. Even now, she doesn't want to let go of her pride.
This isn't the Nashi I know, Reiki thought. Especially when it's Storm's brother.
Nashi picked up Storm's pale and limp body then walked over to Reiki, "come on, we have to go find Nova and Gale, then get going."
She held out her hand for him to take, Reiki ignored it. He just took his sword and got up himself.
Nashi turned her head down and sighed, then turned the opposite direction and started walking down the corridor.
It was only a couple of steps when she turned around and saw Reiki was getting Rin.
"Reiki, you're not in the condition to-"
The redhead didn't say anything, it was just his glare that stopped the pinkette from saying anything more. It was... well, weak. He looked so broken, his eyelids looked heavy, like he didn't even want to be awake, much less standing.
"You're going to hurt yourself more," Nashi said with warning, not wanting him to get hurt. If it was her choice, she would rather him go back to Fairy Tail's ship.
He kept walking, eventually he walked right past her.
He was covered in blood, sweat, and grime. To make matters worst, his leg was crushed. Did he give a care in the world? Not really. He knew what was happening to Nashi, and he wanted to fix it. He didn't know how he could before he passed out from all the pain, but he'd find a way.
Nashi dragged Storm's body up next to Reiki.
"I can't carry both of you," she tried getting his attention, still afraid that he would pass out on her.
He kept walking, his eyes not even acknowledging her existence.
She yelled at him, "Reiki!"
He ignored her.
She didn't know what else she could do. So she did the only thing that she thought would help and try to get his attention. But she didn't know that it was also the thing she needed to do. It turned into something more, it turned into plain sadness and pain. Her emotions were messed with, so many times. She didn't know exactly what she felt anymore.
Nashi Dragneel fell on her knees, dropping the dead body. "You can't just do that!"
The Fernandez kept walking, limping. Hopping on one foot basically.
"You can't support me one minute and then ignore me the next!"
He still didn't turn to even glance at her.
She clenched her fists, and looked down to Storm, his body lay right in front of her. His raven hair fell over his closed eyes, and his dry, pale lips were parted. He his skin turned a sickly yellow.
"Reiki damn it!" Her breath became shaky again, "I'm sorry."
He paused. "For what?"
"For..."
He stood still for a couple seconds, waiting for an answer from her. The pain was unbearable for him, but he stayed. He wanted her to learn that sometimes she was wrong. He wanted her to learn that there's more in life than counting your own feelings.
She swallowed, "for not..." she clenched her teeth. This was it. It was the time when she finally let her pride down, when she finally admitted where she wasn't perfect.
He waited.
"For being so selfish."
She held her hands up to her eyes to catch her tears, "I'm so so sorry."
"I... I didn't care about anyone else's feelings... not even... not even Storm..."
"I just," Her sobbing almost covered up her words, "he tried to help me... giving the memories of the past guild members..." she swallowed hard, "but I took it for granted. I took him for granted. I'm taking you guys for granted."
"And I'm sorry..." She repeated, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." She whispered it over and over.
She let her hands fall to her sides and opened her eyes a little.
Nashi found Reiki setting Rin down and sitting on the hard floor.
The redhead still stayed silent, his hair fell over his eyes and just sat there. He wasn't thinking anything, much less saying anything.
Rin looked like he was about to wake up soon, they would have to explain what happened. Reiki was not looking forward to that, not one bit.
A glimmer got caught in the corner of Nashi's eye, something silver.
She slowly looked down at it.
Storm's necklace. Once Gray's.
Her tears had fell on it, making it shine more than regular.
It looked so... bland. The magic power that was once stored inside was now gone, because of Storm's death. He kept it supplied with the stronger Demon Slayer magic, which made it possibly one of the strongest magical items in the world.
But now, it was just a regular old necklace.
Her teary eyes trailed up to his ear, where his earring was. It wasn't anything special, just an accessory to match the necklace.
But Nashi couldn't help but let out a little smile.
That stupid earring...
She remembered the time when she pulled it out of his ear.
She's always hated him wearing it, it just annoyed her. She didn't know why, usually something that miniscule wouldn't bother her at all.
She just stared at it. Remembering all the little instances where she scolded Storm about it, and he would retort something back.
She turned her head towards Reiki, "hey Rei-"
She paused. The boy, in the middle of the enemy's ship, was snoring.
He fell fast asleep.
Nashi didn't blame him, after what he's been through, he deserved it.
She fell asleep too, right next to Storm's lifeless body, clutching his necklace in her hands.
