15 years later
There isn't a god you realized. Hell, there isn't even a devil.
Humanity is alone, alone with all it's stupidity and clearly, they aren't able to handle it themselves.
Or at least that's what the old lady arguing with the cashier about the prize of a pack of extra large condoms showed you.
You bit your lip in frustration, trying to suppress the slowly increasing need to just run out of the store with all the items you would probably never get to pay anyways, if the woman in front of you kept going like this.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but our shops have individual prizes," The poor cashier tried to explain desperately, "If you're looking for a cheaper option you should go somewhere else."
"Are you telling me to leave?" The woman screeched like a fucking bird.
"N-No- I just wanted to help-" The man would probably quit his job after this. Definitely.
"Well, you aren't helping anywhere!" The lady straight out yelled and you huffed heavily, dropping the milk package you'd been holding.
This day started out shitty anyways
You turned around, pressing your way past the other customers in the queue, ignoring their complaints about how you should at least take your groceries back.
On any other day, you would've reacted exactly the same, probably, but today you were especially easy to tick off for some reason. Maybe you'd get your period early. Who knows.
It felt like the sun was mocking you, while you walked down the street, highly annoyed by the heat and the laughing children outside and, honestly, at this point you'd be annoyed by anything.
"Didn't you go for groceries?" Your boyfriend barely looked up from his laptop when you entered, kicking of your chucks aggressively.
"I did." You answered, "Didn't go that well."
You poured yourself some apple juice, before slumping down in the chair in front of Taemin's.
He looked up from whatever he was doing for a mili second, "You're so weird."
A quiet snort was your only answer, before you proceeded with drinking you apple juice.
It was quiet for some time, the only sounds being the tapping of Taemin's fingers over the keyboard. Your eyes fell onto your boyfriend, the man you'd fallen in love with back in high school, the man you imagined to spend the rest of your life with. Or at least that's what your high school-you had wished.
"Doesn't your shift start in, like, ten minutes?" His voice cut through the silence and you jumped up startled, eyes snapping up to the clock, that indeed showed 4:50.
Fuck all of this.
"If you take the bus you'll make it in time." Your boyfriend shouted after you, fully knowing that you'd long missed the bus, just wanting to lecture you about being more organized.
Quickly throwing on your jacket and shoes, you stumbled down the staircase, back into the blazing heat of the summer sun.
You practically ran down the street, not wanting to disappoint Seokjin again, while highly regretting your choice of wearing a jacket, bathed in sweat by the time you reached the coffee shop you worked in part time.
"You're late." The handsome man deadpanned, throwing an apron in your direction, "And you stink."
You only huffed, panting heavily while you walked over to the counter, earning a grossed out look from the customer in front of it.
"Hello sir," you sighed, "What can I bring you?"
Rude customers, poor payment and too little time to study for your economy exam; this job was really not worth it, you decided.
Though, honestly, you decided this every time you stood there, behind the counter, yet you just couldn't bring yourself to quit, needing the financial support since Taemin's little one-man business wasn't really going all that well.
"You wanna come eat with me when you're ready here?" Seokjin proposed while you were wiping the tables, "We haven't met out of work for ages."
You gave the older a small smile, shaking your head apologetically, "Sorry Jin, m gonna have to head straight home- there's still so much for me to do, and I haven't even started writing my essay..."
"Ah, yes." He nodded understanding, "This stupid ass essay. Just tell me if you need help, okay?"
You thanked him smiling, keeping that smile on your face until you left the shop.
Seokjin was one of your only close friends, and you were truly thankful for him. You'd met him in university and had immediately gotten along with him, it was like fate when you started working at the coffee shop, just to find Seokjin being your co-worker.
He was the only thing making this hell-hole more bearable.
As if your day hadn't been bad enough already, you just had to bump into your Trina Vega clone of a neighbor.
"Oh, hi Y/N." Hayun smiled, "Haven't seen you in a while."
Thank god you didn't
She slung an arm around your shoulder, insisting on accompanying you all the way up to your apartment, because of course she did.
Hayun was the kind of person that would stab someone with a poisoned knife while smiling awfully sweet and talking about how she loved her job as a teacher and her ridiculously handsome boyfriend and her life general, because she was so much better than anyone else.
"You know, I couldn't decide wether I should get the pastel pink or the baby blue sheets, so Mingyu bought both for me, isn't that just lovely!" She squealed excitedly, making you gag (though this could be because of her extensive usage of cheap perfume as well).
"But Mingyu insisted on it, so who am I to deny?" She giggled annoyingly and you felt the insane need to push her down the stairs.
"I'm so lucky to have him." Hayun finished her speech with a dreamy sigh.
Ah yes. Mingyu. The (other) bane of your existence.
Try to imagine all the toxic masculinity, aggressive misogynie and awfully chauvinist macho behaviour in the world, put it into one person and you'd get Choi Mingyu: Hayun's fiance, who just so happens to be your boyfriend's best friend.
"Well, thanks for walking me to my entrance door." You cut your neighbor's flow of words, "Have a good day!" And with that you shut the door in front of the woman's face.
"Fucking dumbfuck." You cursed, throwing your jacket into a corner, before stomping into the living room where Taemin greeted you with a confused expression, "What happened?"
"Our dear neighbor happened." You answered sweetly.
This only caused him to roll his eyes, "You really need to get your head outta your ass and you'd see that Hayun's actually really nice, if only you'd stop trying to see every of my friends as some kind of villain."
You stayed silent, quietly collecting your economy books from the dining table, to retreat to the bedroom. The problem was, that you couldn't get along with Taemin's friends. The kind of people he surrounded himself with were just not your pice of cake, have never been. It was all about being better than the other, being more special, richer, whatever. You knew you'd lost this competition a long time ago.
You knew it when you sat there, scooped up on your bed, learning for the major you didn't like, in an apartment you didn't want to live in, trying to bring as much space as possible between you and your boyfriend.
