Beginning

A five- year old girl kept running, face smeared with dirt and sweat, tears flowing down the chubby cheeks, her short straight hair flying in the wind and a demin jacket wrapped around her tiny waist. She turned to look at her sides, openings to a vast sea , but she kept running.  The place was familiar- a pier that she had once strolled with her parents. When she got to the end of the pier, she jumped into the water.

A sharp high pitch buzzed mechanically  and then a loud thud filled the room along with it, "Aaah," she crashed to the ground in agony. She opened her eyes to the faint light of the moon rubbed the right elbow that she landed on. Getting herself up the floor, she slammed the antique alarm clock, that her parents had bought for her from Germany.  With the sleep still in her eyes, she walked towards the kitchen, placed the pot on the flame and poured a glass of water in it. Then she unscrewed the coffee container, scooped a spoon of coffee and added it in the water. The mixture brought in a strong aroma to the small kitchen.  Opening the mini refrigerator, she pulled out the jar of nutella and put it besides the flames to warm it up. Squeezing the toothpaste out and putting it on her brush, the peppermint woke her senses up to a new day and brushed her sleep away, she took two steps, just in time to slap the clock once again.   She was fully awake now, she picked up her phone, squeezing her eyes shut due to the brightness and finally started the routine she had been following for the past three years now. The ring kept going until she finally heard the voice that started her morning and ended her nights, "Hello," the husky yet sleepy voice greeted.

"Wake up, it's ten past five."

"I just slept." He murmured.

"I'll call back in ten!" With that the first call in the series ended.

Grabbing the brown bread, the nutella jar and her black coffee, she quietly moved into her room, she switched on fairy lights that went across the whole room and the ceiling and filling the area in a dreamy manner. The only gift that her parents gave her that she actually liked- these star looking fairy lights. Though they didn't produce enough light to fill the room like she normally prefers but illuminated the room enough for her to write in her maroon faux-leather diary, which once belonged to her father. Rewriting her to-do-list on a clean new page, she sipped the bitter coffee and took a bite of the  nutella bread.

Ten minutes passed and she was redialing the last number,  only to find the voice more awake , "Coffee Head, I'm up!"

She chuckled, choking a little on the bread, "Good morning Kunal!"

"Good morning. Excited for today?

The girl looked at the extensive to-do- list  which had finally filled with things to be done from wearing a saree to reading the newspaper to reminding herself the reason she chose this path, she finally mentioned what she was truly feeling, "Nervous!"

"Don't be!" he assured her. " You'll do great. Mom will be reach by half past seven and I'll be there by nine."

"Thanks for asking your mom..."

Kunal cut her short,"we are... " His voice trailed off when his eyes saw the photo in front of him of a young guy with messy black hair, dark brown pupils with awkward smile pasted on his face and next to him was a girl, with a floral orange dress with a brown belt placed on her waist.

"....best friends forever!" She completed the thought.

He emphasized,"Forever," while still looking at the photo. Placing the photo back in his wallet, next to the passport size one of his mom, the two women were now side by side, the two people who meant the world to him were finally going to meet today.
