The Begining of a (Fairy)tale.

Don't let the chapter title decive you, this isn't a fairytale. I just wanted to make a pun.

Midoriya considered himself to be a pretty normal kid. Actually, he was under average, in his opinion.

He was a quirkless middle schooler who dreamed of being a hero. He had barely passing grades, and a frail body. He had no friends, and his only hobbies were analysing heros, and gardening. He wasn't even that good at the analysis, either!

But, that left him wondering why he was covered head-to-toe in freckles, also known as fairy kisses. Even more unexplainable, was that out of everyone in his class, he was the only one who had so many of them!

He didn't understand why the fairies liked him so much, out of all people. Sure, he knew that gardeners more often than not, had a couple of freckles, but even then, usually not as much as he had. Maybe it was the little gifts he always left for them in his garden. He wasn't sure why they liked him, but it did make him happy whenever he found a new freckle, so he had started leaving them gifts.

Except he made most of them, as he didn't have enough money to buy gifts for the fairies, so the gifts probably weren't even that good.

So, he had no idea why the fairies liked him so much, when there were amazing people like Kacchan in his class. (Although, Kacchan probably wouldn't want any fairies to kiss him. He always called Midoriya's freckles ugly, which honestly made him pretty mad. Kacchan had no right to say that the fairy's kisses were ugly, whether they were Midoriya's freckles or not.)

He was currently in his garden, watering the flowers. The area was once a small, empty backyard, but Inko had given him permission to make it into a garden back when he was 10. He was shirtless, as the hot, summer sun beat down on the earth, which made his shirt become uncomfortable to wear. Freckles were sprinkled across his whole body like little flakes of stardust, but they were the most prominent on his face.

Sweat from the heat dampened his green curls, although it did little to tame the mess on Midoriya's head known as hair. His emerald colored eyes drifted around slightly as he used the watering can to give the flowers all of the water they needed.

Most of the plants in the garden were flowers. They were bright and colorful, giving a pop of happiness to Midoriya's life. Happiness that else was only provided by his mother, the freckles that made home on his skin, and All Might's bright smile.

And, after that day, he could probably cross the last one off of the list.

"I'm sorry young man, but you cannot be a hero without a quirk"

He wasn't mad at All Might, not really. He knew that All Might was just telling him the truth, just trying to prevent him from getting himself killed. Really, he just wished that the answer was different. That the truth was a bit less harsh.

Unfortunately, idly wishing didn't change the reality of his situation. He never really had a back up plan for if he couldn't be a hero, which honestly left him feeling defeated.

He didn't want to be a police officer, that system was way too corrupt. Plus, they were really just glorified hall moniters at this point.

Being a firefighter would require strength, something he lacked.

Any sort of medical work wouldn't accept him with how low his grades were.

Making support items wouldn't work either, he had no idea how inventing things worked.

So, he had no idea what he could do with his life in order to help people.

Maybe he could just work as a florist....

He capped the watering can, and pulled a small bundle out of his pocket. It was wrapped in light blue tissue paper, tied up with twine. He had tried to make a bow with the twine as well, but one of the loops ended up a bit bigger than the other.

They were homemade cookies that he had made, with his mother's help. They were peanut-butter cookies, with a few chocolate chips mixed in. He hoped that the fairies would like them, he had never really baked before.

As he walked up to the miniature stone table that he had set up quite some time ago, he heard a strange rustling sound. He set down the package, and began searching for the source of the sound. Maybe it was an injured animal!

The rustling stopped, and soon after, a strange woman appeared in front of one of the flower beds. The first thing Midoriya noticed was her freckles. They were like his, scattered all over her body and face. She was a bit shorter than him, but not by all that much. She had almond shaped eyes, which were golden in color. Her silky brown hair was tied up in a messy bun, using a leaf-themed hair tie to do so. She wore a green kimono dress, decorated with white leaf patterns.

And.... Wings. She had crystal clear wings, which had sparkly swirls all over them. Midoriya didn't even have to second-guess himself. He could tell just by looking at her, she was a fairy. The pointed ears only confirmed it further.

She smiled widely at him, and said, "Hey, hey!! D'you wanna be a fairy?"

Midoriya just stared at her, confusion very obvious.
