Chapter 4
"Welcome to your new room."Lily exclaimed .
"This is your new bed, that's your new wardrobe and this is your-what are you staring at?"she suddenly asked as I was looking out the window at something, rather someone.
I blushed, realising I was caught staring at someone and it was only my first day here.
She walked over to the window , following my gaze.
I didn't see the boy's face but I didn't have to see him to know that he was good looking.
He was tall and broad shouldered, he had straight golden-brown hair that was shining from the bright light of the morning's sun.
For some reason I felt drawn to him and I couldn't look away if I wanted to.
To think that I was only staring at his back! What would happen if I saw his face?
His hands was gripping a silver sword tightly as he moved forward gracefully on his target. He moved with so much determination and ease that I knew he was very skilled and was probably practising this his whole life.
"That's sword fighting. The boys must learn to master that skill here at this school."she explained, clearly not realising that I was staring at the boy not the lesson he was being thought.
I was grateful for that however, there was no need for me to embarrass myself any longer.
I forced my eyes to move away from the guy that enchanted me and finally looked around the room.
It wasn't that bad.
It was large enough for two people, with white, cast-iron beds and carved wooden dressers on each side.
Only a few pieces of clothing still hung in my closet.Everything else had been bundled up in my suitcase.
A quick check of my bag showed makeup, shampoo , clothes and books.Yes books! I loved to read, I wouldn't feel complete without taking at least two of my favourite books with me.
"Do you like it?"she asked .
"Its nice."I muttered staring at two fairies embroidered on the wooden dressers.
"That's the crest of the school."Lily said answering my unspoken question.
"Oh."was all I managed to say as I passed my hands over the beautiful carvings.
"You ready to have a tour of the school?"she beamed with excitement.
I grinned at her enthusiastic behaviour and nodded my head.
We stepped out of the room, closing the door behind us, walking down the steps.
"So are you nervous?"
"Yeah pretty much."I answered honestly as we stepped out of the stairwell into the great hall.
Early this morning , it had been hushed, now it was packed with people, ringing with voices. It seemed as if my footsteps echoed throughout the room, dozens of faces turned towards me at once.
I might as well have stock a sign on my blouse that said NEW KID.
The other students clustered together in circles , their eyes dark and quick as they darted over me.
I felt as if they could see down into the panic fluttering of my heart.
"Just ignore them."Lily muttered under her breath reminding me that I wasn't alone.
I nodded my head and realised that every girl's hair shone, whether worn down in a sleek bun or ponytail.
They all looked self-assured and strong, confidence radiated from them.
My cheeks flushed with embarrassment, I didn't like the attention I was getting, I wasn't used to it.
Thankfully, however, the murmuring welled up again in an instant as their interest in me soon faded away.
"Is it always like that?"I asked letting go of a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"You mean for a new kid?"she answered my question with a question of her own.
"Yeah."I replied still affected from all the attention.
We were finally away from the crowds and I was totally relieved.
" Yeah that's how it usually is.Don't worry it will get better."she promised me.
Not when they found out I was Gabriella Jones.
