The Ride of My Life
10. Fun, the year of the Unicorn
Dear diary,
I know that you are biting your figurative nails to find out what Van said, but I will have to ask you to be patient for a while longer because last night I had a wonderful dream that I want to tell you about.
The dream was more of a memory than anything else.
Now I can't stop the flood of memories from overwhelming my mind.
I just have to share that experience with you before we go on to some more serious topics because it's so good to remember the good old days.
One thing you might have figured out about me by now is that I love flying.
What you might have not noticed is that I also love being given a ride by one of the animals that bless nature with their presence.
You are probably wondering what kind of horse is small enough for me to ride?
The answer is none. I am not ordinary like that. I am special, different.
Also, having a mare as my friend makes it kind of weird for me to ride a horse.
No, I am talking about different kinds of rides.
These rides are very exciting and can be very dangerous, but I love them.
Of course, the first time I went for a ride, I was simply terrified.
Luckily, Van was by my side to lend me his support and encouragement.
When I think about it, I am not sure what made me more nervous, the fact that Van and I were about to share something new for both of us, or about the dangerous ride.
Oh, sorry my dear diary, I forgot to mention, what in Pan's name, I am talking about, silly me.
It's riding a bee.
Yes, I know what you are thinking.
Aren't they too small?
How is that even possible?
Hold your horses (what a strange expression, don't you think so?), I shall explain, step by step, for your convenience.
There is this myth in the Magic World that there is a group of beings, kind of like Magic Underground, who consider riding bees as the most exciting experience ever.
The rumors say that the bees are glad to give them rides since they love the races they get into as much as their riders do.
The so-called Bee Races are, according to some, quite common and extremely dangerous.
As for the bees, they love racing, but what they love even more than the thrill of the race is their riders' reactions.
Some of them scream in joy, others in fear. Either way, the bees find that hilarious and enjoy the reactions other beings have when faced with their speed.
It is slightly similar to humans riding a motorcycle.
Fast.
Dangerous.
Exhilarating.
You can feel the energy pumping into your veins, and some beings love it.
To be honest, I am not friends with any bees, so I always assumed that those were just exaggerated fairy tales, until I met Van.
Van told me after our third date, I think, that he would like to take me bee-riding one day, and I agreed.
When the moment finally came, my hands were shaking, and I could barely use the adequate amount of magic to make myself small enough to ride on a bee's back.
Van was there, encouraging me, every step of the way, and telling me how fun it would be.
During the lift-off, I could feel my heart in my throat, and I just tried to hang on for dear life.
I have flown before, I am a fairy, after all. My life was constant flying, but the bee way was much faster than I anticipated.
I could never fly that fast.
As I firmly gripped Van in front of me, I couldn't help but wonder if it was a good idea after all.
"Open your eyes! You'll miss the best parts!" Van shouted over the buzzing of the bee's wings.
As I did so, I could see that everything was flying by in a blur, and it took some time to get used to it, to be able to see anything.
My eyes were tearing up from the wind which made it even a bigger challenge to see, but once I did, I was impressed.
Everything looked so different, as we flashed by it at the speed of light, it was new and exciting.
The wind blew my hair in a flying mess, and then, suddenly, all I could feel was exhilaration.
I started screaming in joy and Van joined in with his shout of delight.
It was the most dangerous thing I had ever done, and I loved it.
Van's presence made the experience even more fulfilling.
His warm body in front of me gave me comfort that everything would be okay, that I could relax and have fun.
The types of fun that fairies are generally into are much more peaceful, there are usually no traces of danger, but up there with Van, I realized that I quite enjoyed the different types of fun.
The knowledge that we could fall into our deaths made the experience only more intense. Only when faced with the possibility of death, did I truly feel alive.
It was so strange to me. I seemed like a completely different person. A daredevil.
Someone that I can't even recognize, but I don't mind. I have evolved.
Now I can see more than just my narrow fairy life. There are so many wonderful things I have been missing out on, and I wanted to try them all, I still do.
But that moment with Van...High above all our problems and worries...It made me feel free. Like we could do anything, as long as we were together.
I guess that is true even now. Even though I asked him for some space, I feel that we can go through that together.
As you might have understood by what I just said, Van and I met up today, and he agreed to my suggestion.
"You know my friends have been mentioning that we were annoying them with our constant whispering and private jokes, so maybe we should have thought of this before. If for nothing else, we should do it for the well-being of our friends." Van said jokingly when he came with his answer.
"Yes, my friends told me that we were starting to drive them crazy, as well. They couldn't chat with me about girl things when you were always there, by my side." I told him.
"Girl things?" He couldn't help but ask.
"Oh, you know the usual, clothes, boys..." I answered.
"Hm, will you be talking about me during those talks?" He asked.
"Most definitely, how wouldn't we, you surely are worth talking about!" I said, jokingly.
"I most certainly am!" He said, as he suddenly dipped me, and kissed me passionately.
Even though we have been together for a while, he still manages to take my breath away, I must admit.
"Wow, what was that for?" I asked, smiling broadly, my lips swollen.
"Well, we will spend some time apart, so I just wanted you to have something to remember me by." He said, winking at me.
"You sure gave me something to remember you by, but you do realize we will see each other tomorrow? Just not the whole day tomorrow." I said.
He came close enough that our bodies were almost touching, and then he leaned in slowly whispering in my ear.
"Tomorrow is far from now. I will be dreaming of those voluptuous lips of yours, and those eyes that can see deep into my very soul."
Once more, he kissed me, and we said goodbye until the next day.
I know, I know, we sound ridiculous, but although I was the one who asked for some space, I will still miss having him at my side at all times.
Well, I better be going. My friends are coming to visit, so I might as well prepare for all the questions and gossip that are coming my way.
Until next time.
