Despite Hao's stubbornness, Hanbin was right; everything felt okay and normal, although Hanbin seemed to be acting extra kind this time. For example, he opened the car door for Hao, closed it, helped Hao with his seatbelt, and even carried Hao's (extremely light) bag for him. Even though it felt odd, Hao was still grateful for how much effort Hanbin was found to be putting into this date to make sure it was as good as it could be.
"Oh, wow," was all Hao could say as he walked into the bowling alley, hand in hand with Hanbin. "Why does this look like the club?" he questioned, referring to the flashing patterned lights that were scattered all around the area. "It's silly, though, I like it."
Hanbin snorted at Hao's comments, patting his back with his free hand. "Well, I'm glad you like it, then." He smiled, taking Hao over to the front counter.
It would be an understatement to say that Hao didn't feel ridiculous in the oddly shaped bowling shoes he and Hanbin were made to wear; they were an unflattering colour too. Hanbin, who was very much aware of Hao's sentiment, teased him about it at any possible moment.
"I'm going first," Hao noticed, staring up at the screen. "As I should." He nods firmly, picking one of the bowling balls up. Walking up to the lane, he realizes he has no clue what he's doing. "I just roll it?" he asks, turning back to Hanbin who is holding his phone up, where he wrote "ZHANG HAO" in big letters to cheer him on.
"Yeah, but make sure to put some force into it, you know?" he explains, earning a smile from Hao.
He turns back around, and with a deep breath, Hao sends the ball rolling... right into the gutter. His face heats up with embarrassment as he turns around and shamefully walks back to the couch Hanbin was sitting on.
"Come on, that wasn't bad," Hanbin reassures with an empathetic smile and a hand on Hao's shoulder.
"I literally got none of the pins!" Hao complained. "None of them!"
Hanbin chuckled, patting the other's shoulder a couple of times. "I mean, it's your first time going bowling, you can't expect to be amazing right off the bat."
"No, I think I can expect to be amazing, because I'm amazing," Hao argued, crossing his arms with a pout.
"You sure are amazing," Hanbin agreed, squishing Hao's cheeks with his hands before walking up to the lane to pick up a bowling ball. He lines it up with the pins and rolls it with force, laughing with excitement as he gets a strike on his first try. "Look at that!" Hanbin exclaims, looking back at Hao, whose face is lit up with joy.
Hao leaps up out of his seat, rushing to engulf Hanbin with a hug. "Good job," he says, voice muffled as his face is buried in the crook of Hanbin's neck. As he pulls away, he frowns. "But wait until you see what I have in store. Your mind will be blown!"
Charmed by Hao's confidence, Hanbin couldn't help but smile, agreeing with a nod as well. "Go show me what you've got!"
Turning back while standing in front of the lane, Hao winks at Hanbin before rolling the bowling ball. This time, he doesn't miss, but he doesn't get a strike either. Hao knocks down five of the ten pins, but it doesn't stop him from feeling proud of himself. "See how amazing I am?!" he shouts with excitement, strutting back to Hanbin with the most confidence he's had all day.
"Aren't you becoming a little too good at this?" asks Hanbin, pulling Hao into another hug, this time picking him up and spinning him around.
The game goes on and, eventually, they're both tied. There's only one round left, and Hao can only manage to win if Hanbin somehow messes up, as he mostly ends up getting strikes throughout the game.
It's Hao's turn and the pressure is real. He dramatically wipes away the nonexistent sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand, walking up to the lane holding a pink bowling ball. Hao looks back once, making intense eye contact with Hanbin before blowing him a kiss, but as a threat. Using all that he's learned, Hao pulls back before releasing the ball, watching it roll down the middle of the lane. He can barely watch, but as the ball comes in contact with the pins, all ten of them fall. He's satisfied, and from how Hanbin is cheering rather loudly, he too, is satisfied.
"Look at you!" Hanbin exclaims, slipping on his way to Hao due to how fast he was running. So much adrenaline was pumping through his body that Hanbin's first instinct was to hold Hao by the cheeks and press a firm kiss to his lips.
Hao stares at Hanbin, blinking a few times after breaking away from the kiss. It took him a minute to process what just happened, but when it did, he pulled Hanbin in once again, their kiss this time being much more gentle.
"I think that makes me the winner," Hao claims with a snarky laugh after pulling away from the kiss.
Hanbin, with a cocky smile, shakes his head. "Not just yet, my Hao. I still have my turn left."
Hao rolls his eyes at Hanbin's statement. "Just accept defeat now!" he says, watching as Hanbin makes his way towards the lane with a green bowling ball.
Somehow, a miracle happens in Hao's favour, as Hanbin knocks down nine of the pins, leaving only one up. Although he ends up losing, he does so with a smile, knowing that Hao was ecstatic after winning his first ever bowling match.
Hanbin treats Hao to dinner (as "punishment" for losing, even though he would've paid for Hao's meal regardless of the outcome). It wasn't anything too fancy, yet it was good enough for the both of them. Nothing had to be fancy as long as Hao had Hanbin by his side.
In good old fashion, Hao, the self-titled "passenger princess", is being driven back to campus by Hanbin, who is more than happy to do so. Hao, who is still very excited, is rambling about his favourite parts about their date on the way back to the dorms, to which Hanbin is squeezing in his own comments whenever he can.
As they reach the parking lot, Hao stares at Hanbin, who fondly stares back. They remain like that for a while, comfortable in the silence, before Hao works up the courage to slowly inch himself closer to Hanbin, who eventually catches on. Closing the gap between him and Hao once more, Hanbin tilts his head, making their third kiss more intimate, prompting a hand onto Hao's waist.
Hanbin grabs onto Hao's hand before he gets out of the car. "So, like, do you want us to be official?"
"I thought you'd never ask!" teased Hao with a laugh. "Of course I wanna be with you, silly."
Satisfied, Hanbin brings Hao's hand up to his lips, pressing a kiss to the back of his hand. "See you soon, then, my boyfriend."
