It's been a week since I made Lainey my friend. Okay, so maybe I didn't force her to be my friend but I begged her.

And Surprisingly it has worked, and she is not nearly as mean to me. I even convinced Caleb to have a small party and invite Lainey and her friends. Luckily they came and I got to hang out with Lainey the whole time.

In the last week, I have gotten to fall for her all over again.

Today is the last day of school before prom this weekend, and there have been prom pro sales everywhere. It seems like everywhere I look there is another one happening.

I even had to help Caleb and Waylon with theirs. Unfortunately, the girl Waylon asked said no.

Waylon wasn't too upset about it but it completely pissed the girls off. So, Lena, Maize, and Lainey left a very carefully worded letter in her mailbox.

Trey, prom proposed to Maize in her driveway, I wasn't there to see, it but Lainey gave me all the details the next day.

As I said, we have become a lot closer.

Since today is the last day at school before prom I am planning on asking Lainey if she is going with anyone. I haven't heard from anyone asking her, but I don't know if she is planning on going with someone.

If she doesn't have a date I am planning on asking her this afternoon. I didn't want to do it at school and I know she won't expect it at home.

I already have my sign made, I convinced Sadie to help me with it last night.

It says,

"How cool would be if you went to PROM with your ex-arch nemesis?"

Lainey sees me the second I walk outside. I stick my tongue out and she laughs.

"How mature," She draws as I sit down beside her.

Trey laughs as he puts his arm around Maize, "Huntley is always mature."

I take my sandwich out of my bag. "I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not."

"Just assume everyone is being sarcastic when it comes to you," Lainey says around a bite of mac and cheese.

"I love your hair," Maize says with an evil smile.

With my free hand, I give them all the birds.

Once their laughter dies down I pop the question. "So, do you have a date to prom?"

Laineys freezes mid-bite and glances at me. "No."

"I thought you were going with, whats-his-face," Trey asks.

Lainey shakes her head with a grin, "No unless you are talking about your brother?"

I heard about her little crush and Rojo's brother. It ticked me off at first, but when I learned he had a girlfriend I found it quite funny.

Trey's eyes narrow, "No, the guy from the soccer team."

My mouth stops chewing as I stare at Trey. "Who?" The question comes out with more growl than I intended it to.

Lainey rolls her eyes, "He's talking about Jamie Frank."

My blood starts to boil. I know who Jamie Frank is. Unfortunately, he's a good guy and a bit of a flirt.

"Why would she go with Frank," I demand.

Maize smirks as she continues to eat her fruit. "Because he has been talking to Lainey and he is a nice guy." Lainey snaps.

I roll my eyes, "So, you're going to go to your senior prom with a guy you hardly know?" I say harsher than I mean to.

Lainey glares at me as she gets up, "Relax. He hasn't asked me so I will be going by myself."

Before I can respond she storms away.

I sigh as cover my face with my hands.

"Real smooth," Trey draws.

I look up and flip him off.

Just when I don't think my day could get any worse I find Jamie prom popsing to Lainey.

After my last class, I went straight to Lainey's locker to apologize, but Jamie beat me to it.

Forchently for me, I miss the first half of his stupid speech.

Now he's waiting for her response.

Just when I think she is going to say yes her eyes find mine. It's as if she is trying to ask me what she should say.

Unfortunately, for her I keep my face blank, masking my rage. I can't let my feelings dictate what she wants.

Lainey looks away and gives Jamie a forced smile, "Yes, I'll go with you."

Everyone cheers and I don't wait for his reaction.

As I weave through my classmates a hand finds my shoulder. I stop to find the hand that belongs to Jeremy, "For what it's worth I was rooting for you two."

I say nothing as I walk away.

I worked all day Saturday, ignoring the chain of text messages I received from my friends. Even the meme Lainey sent me.

On my way home from work I see a girl walking down the sidewalk in my neighborhood. The closer I get I realize the girl is my sister.

Sadie recognizes my car and terror washes over her face. I stop beside her with my window already down. "What the fuck are you doing?" I yell.

She quickly wipes her eyes, "Leave me alone."

When she pulls her hand away, I notice black streaks running down her face. "Sade, what happened?"

"I don't want to talk about it," She snaps as she starts walking away.

I quickly jump out of the car and jog after her. "Who hurt you, Sadie?"

"No one," She yells as I catch up with her.

I grab her arm and spin her around. "Please tell me," I beg.

Sadie looks away and a tear rolls down her face, "I want to go home."

I nod and we walk back to my car.

As I drive, I feel my anger growing. If someone hurt her, I will stomp their ass.

"My boyfriend cheated on me," Sadie whispers as I pull into our driveway.

I mask my surprise as I face her. "What?"

Since when did she have a boyfriend?

"I was dating this guy from school and he cheated on me," Sadie cries

"I'm sorry," I say softly, despite the anger rolling in my gut.

She wipes her eyes and softly sniffs, "I was at his house when this girl showed up." She takes a shaky breath, "Long story short, I found out he was seeing her behind my back."

I reach across my car and pull her into a tight hug. "He sounds like a piece of fucking trash."

She laughs in between sobs, "I think I hurt my fist when I punched him in the face."

"You punched him?" I exclaim.

Sadie flinches, "Yes."

I let out a whistle, "Damn, girl."

Sadie rolls her eyes, "He tried to lie about it so I punched him then he kicked me out of his house."

I nod over my shoulder, "Let's go inside."

Sadie sighs and I throw my arm around her shoulder as we walk inside. "Mom won't be home till late. Do you want to want a movie?"

She nods as she walks to her room to change.

When Sadie comes back, I have Netflix on and two bowls of ice cream.

"Awe, are going to watch a movie with me, Winney?" Sadie shouts.

I roll my eyes at the nickname she hasn't used in years. "I told you I would."

She plops down beside me, "I thought you were lying."

We both dig into our ice-creams and watch a movie Sadie picked out almost immediately.

As we watch the movie Sadie slowly moves closer to me till her head is resting against me while she sleeps.

The movie finishes and Sadie is still asleep.

Before I slip away to go to bed, I send a text to the group chat with my guy friends.

O-for-the-Wen (Me): A guy broke Sade's heart.

Leby (Caleb): Where is the little bastard

O-for-the-Wen: I will find out tomorrow

Way-way (Waylon): I'll hit him since I am still a minor.

Way-way: that way you all don't end up in jail
