*Dan's POV*
So, that brings me to today. Like I said, I'm fifteen, still bisexual, and still best friends with Chris and Marlhy.
And my mom still only knows about Chris.
If she knew I liked boys, she'd kill me.
I hadn't dated since the incident with Peej two years ago. I was still traumatized by the heartbreak, I guess. Chris, who was pansexual with a preference for boys, had had at least two boyfriends since then. I guess it didn't hit him as hard, or something. Maybe he was just more daring than me, I had no idea. I certainly wasn't going to bring it up.
Anyways, ever since we all became friends, every other day we met up at the base of the tree and hung out. Sometimes we'd build little fortresses (only to have them destroyed by nature or faeries, we didn't know), sometimes we'd talk about boys, sometimes we'd explore. It was usually the same.
Usually.
Today, though, was a different kind of day.
Chris had called me at around nine, saying that he'd fallen ill and couldn't come to the woods that day. I said it was alright and wished him to get well soon.
I went into the woods, looking for Marlhy.
She wasn't there either.
"Marlhy?" I yelled into the trees. "Marlhy?" I yelled again. Then a third time. Then a fourth time.
Then I heard a loud yawn.
"I'm so exhausted, Dan," I heard Marlhy yell from her treehouse, "I won't be able to hang today, I'm sorry, I'll make it up to you somehow."
"No, it's totally fine," I lied. I wanted to explore a trail we'd discovered last time we were here, but I guess I'd have to do it alone.
I found the start of the trail, just as we'd left it the other day, and began to walk down it. For a while it was just trees and sticks and rocks, as usual, nothing too interesting.
I was looking down at the ground, not paying any attention, thinking about how I should just give up and go home since it was no fun by myself, until I bumped into someone.
After getting over the initial shock of finding someone else in the woods, I finally looked up at the person. It was a boy - a pretty one, I might add. He had raven-black hair that fell into a fringe not unlike mine. His eyes were piercingly blue and stared right into me as we checked each other out. He had pasty white skin that looked as pure as a baby's, which made me feel insecure about my skin covered in weird moles and sun spots. His jawline was angular and perfect. He looked about my height and was wearing a jumper with Jake the Dog on it, paired with some black jeans.
At least he had good fashion sense.
We stared at each other for much too long until he spoke.
"Hi, I'm Phil. I'm lost."
