Swimming In Your Eyes As We're Swimming In The Pool

Magnus decided to put a pool on the roof of his penthouse.

It was cold, being the beginning of January and all, but a simple spell soon made the temperature of the roof rise as if it were summer and not winter instead. He slipped into his favorite swim trunks, cut up some bread and cheese and popped open a bottle of his finest wine and waited for Alexander to come home.

When the Shadowhunter did come home, Magnus heard him shout out to him from downstairs. He wrapped his robe around him and went downstairs to greet his Shadowhunter with a smile.

"There you are. I was starting to worry about you," Magnus pecked Alec on the lips. "How was work?"

"Brutal. I never did like standing in front of the Clave but today was twice as unnerving." Alec picked up a cube of cheese that was on the counter and popped it into his mouth. "Mm. That's good. What were you making while I was gone?"

Magnus let out a soft chuckle. "Come up to the roof and you'll find out."

They made their way upstairs, giggling as Alec tripped on the way up while trying to kiss Magnus. When the door to the roof opened, Alec had to blink in order for his eyes to adjust to the bright lights around the pool.

"When did you get a pool? Was this always up here?" Alec knelt down a dipped a finger into the water. It was nice and cool compared to the warm air surrounding them. It was almost like walking out into a summer's evening where the air was fresh and warm.

"No. I just decided it was time for a change around here. I loved my interior décor too much to make any drastic changes so I decided to get a pool instead. There's even a hot tub over in the corner."

Alec's throat went dry when Magnus slipped off the robe he'd been wearing and stepped into the shallow end of the pool. He swallowed. "But why a pool? Why not....a pool table?" He cringed at how horrible that sounded.

Magnus laughed. "I imagined us kissing under the stars and moon while floating in the water but okay. I'll add a pool table next time I feel a desire to change up the home a little."

Alec fidgeted, contemplating whether or not he should get in the water. "What happened to the cold weather? It was freezing before I came home. You could see your breath."

Magnus shrugged. "Simple temperature spell. It's just encasing the roof so the mundanes down below won't even notice a difference. It's basically summer up here." He looked up at his tall Shadowhunter with a smirk. "So are you getting in or not? It's really lonely in here."

Ah. What the heck. Alec reached up to grab the collar of his shirt and pulled it over his head, aware that Magnus was watching intently. So he decided to do what his version of a striptease was, which involved clumsily undoing his belt and tripping over the leg of his jeans.

"Wow. So sexy," Magnus snickered into his wineglass.

Alec wrestled with his socks, accidentally kicking them off so hard that one of them flew over the side of the roof. When he was standing in his boxers, he triumphantly stood with his hands on his hips, smile on his face. "You really thought that was sexy?"

"Well no. But it came from you and that's sexy all on its own." Magnus set down his wineglass as Alec stepped into the pool. "I didn't think you even knew how to swim."

"Standard Shadowhunter training. It builds endurance and we learn not to drown." Alec swam around the middle of the pool, his long and lithe body looking even longer because of the reflection in the water.

"Hardly surprising. I never dated a merman before. Wine?"

Alec swam to the edge and took the glass that Magnus handed to him. "Cheese, bread and wine? That's a bit....cliché. Not mention you're not supposed to eat an hour before you go swimming."

"Stop sucking the fun out of it, Alexander. Or it won't be the wine and cheese that drowns you." Magnus casually leaned back against the side of the pool, staring up at the stars in the sky above them. "This is one of my more romantic ideas I've had. I always wanted to go for a midnight swim with that special someone."

"Yeah? I've never really thought too much about it. Being a Shadowhunter doesn't really allow me to think about these kinds of things," Alec swallowed a sip of wine. "I'm actually glad you come up with the date ideas. Mine are just pathetic and involve Shadowhunter stuff. Like training."

Magnus blinked. "Training? Like sparring?" When Alec nodded, Magnus smirked michievously. "Well. We can probably make that work. Just imagine this: we're wrestling, getting all sweating from working out, I pin you to the floor and we're both breathing heavily...."

Alec gulped audibly. When he spoke, his voice came out deep and raspy. "I'll make arrangements to uh.....book the training room sometime. For just the two of us."

"Sounds like a hot, sweaty date." Magnus then pushed himself off the side of the pool and swam to the deep end. "So apart from training with each other, what else did you have in mind for a date?"

Alec followed him out to the deep end. He used his hands and feet to keep himself afloat. "I don't know. I told you I wasn't very good at coming up with ideas."

"Oh please," Magnus snorted. "You're the Head of the New York Institute. They just don't hire on the person with the least amount of ideas for the position, you know. You don't give yourself enough credit, babe."

Alec shrugged. "I'm good with politics. I'm just not very good at love."

Magnus swam over and latched himself onto Alec so that his legs were wrapped around Alec's waist and his hands were on Alec's shoulders. "You're amazing at love. Don't sell yourself short. I mean....how often do I get to see you activate a rune on that delicious body of yours? Every time you do it, it just gets more sexy."

Alec smiled at this. "Me activating a rune is sexy to you?"

"Yes. As is the way you brush your teeth. Shower. Speak. Smile. Everything you do is sexy and beautiful to me and I honestly wouldn't trade the way you do it even if the world offered me a million cats in exchange."

Alec laughed, the crinkles around his hazel eyes standing out against his pale skin. "What would you do with a million cats?"

"It's what I wouldn't do with a million cats." As soon as he said this, Magnus cringed. "That sounded so much better in my head."

Alec leaned in and kissed Magnus, chuckling as he did so. "You're so cute that it hurts. I'd gladly help support you in this million cat endeavour if that's what you really wanted."

It was Magnus' turn to laugh, the sound echoing over the rooftop and through the starry sky. "Now where do you think I'd keep them all? The penthouse is nowhere near big enough. Even my magic has limits when it comes to home expansion."

"We can get a new place?"

"And lose this lovely view of my city?"

"We can get two pools instead of one. Maybe even a training room too."

Magnus squinted at Alec. "Hmm. Tempting. Do I also get twice as many stripteases?"

"God no. That was awful. I lost one of my socks in the process."

Magnus snorted at the memory as he ran his wet fingers through Alec's thick black hair. "I'll get you another pair, my darling man. As many pairs as you want."

Alec stared into Magnus' eyes. They sparkled even more than the stars above them and even brighter because of the pool lights that were around them. There was a faint coloring of gold around the pupils while the rest of the warlock's eye was the color of milk chocolate that occasionally flickered into cat eyes. They were beautiful either way.

"I like this. Swimming in the pool. Just the two of us under the night sky. And good call about the temperature spell by the way," Alec nodded, impressed.

"Thank you kindly. I wasn't going to do it at first because I wanted us to get in the hot tub and when we got out, we'd cuddle on the couch downstairs to warm up but I thought better of it. Maybe next time?"

"I have a heat rune," Alec pointed out.

"Again. Stop sucking the fun out of it, Alexander." Magnus smiled and planted a long, warm kiss on Alec's lips. "Now come on. I'll turn down the heat around us and let's get hot in the tub together."

"You? Turn down the heat? That's impossible," Alec smirked. "But I like the idea of getting sexy in the hot tub."

"I'm sure you do," Magnus waved a hand, blue sparks coming from his fingers.

Almost immediately, Alec felt the temperature drop to a normal winter cold. Alec's teeth began to chatter.

"Y-you couldn't have waited until w-we were in the tub?" Alec jumped out of the pool and raced over to the hot tub. The water burned his skin at first but he soon relaxed in the hot water.

"And miss out on you doing the penguin when you got out of the pool? No," Magnus giggled as Alec shot him a glare. "Relax. We're in the hot water now. What do you say we.....heat things up a little more?"

A moan almost escaped Alec's throat as Magnus began to kiss his neck rune. "If we heat things up any more we'd probably burn to death."

Magnus chuckled between kisses. "At least we'd burn together."
