"This is Rainbow Star. She's a lawyer."

Alec was handed a blue unicorn with rainbow hair from Madzie. "A lawyer? Interesting career path for a horse-"

"She's a unicorn," the tiny warlock corrected him.

He raised his hands in surrender. "Sorry. Unicorn. Why is she a lawyer?"

Madzie made her horses gallop across the floor with magic. "She likes to help others."

This made Alec smile broadly. Here he was sat cross legged on the floor with his 4 year old niece, a pink feather boa around his neck and a small plastic crown on his head from a tea party they had earlier that day. It was one of those rare days where he didn't have to mind the institute and was finally able to spend time with the little munchkin, playing toys with her and dressing up in whatever costumes she whipped up for him.

"Is uncle Magnus going to be home soon?" Madzie asked. She had taken out her coloring books and started to color in a picture of a tiger as her toys continued to run across the floor of the living room.

"Soon. He's gone out with aunt Cat somewhere while I stick around here and play with a little booger," he said as snatched Madzie up in his arms, tickling her mercilessly. She screamed with laughter when he blew on her belly with his mouth.

"Stop!" She yelled as she laughed.

"What did you say? Keep going? If you say so!" Alec laughed as Madzie squealed when he kept tickling her, only stopping when her face dropped. "What's wrong?"

She got up and raced towards the bathroom. "I gotta pee!" She shouted back over her shoulder, followed by a door slam and the bang of a toilet seat.

Alec waited in the living room by amusing himself with the coloring book. Inside were all kinds of zoo animals; zebras, rhinos, lions. Typical animals you'd find in the zoo....except giraffes weren't pink and lions didn't have purple manes.

Madzie raced back out with her arms in the air. "I peed!"

Alec chuckled. "Well that's good. Does this mean I can tickle you again?" Madzie shook her head so he lowered his wiggling fingers. "Did you wash your hands?"

"Yes," she answered. "Can we play dolls? You can be Airline Barbie."

So Alec played dolls for the next hour while he waited for his boyfriend to come home. Madzie even took the liberty to braid his short hair and clip it back with butterfly hairpins.

"All done," she said as she stepped back to admire her handiwork.

Alec felt his hair. "How do I look?" He had to stifle a laugh when Madzie took his face in her tiny hands and smiled broadly.

"Beautiful," she whispered before taking off towards her room, which used to be the guest room but quickly became hers as she visited more and more often. The brown furniture in the room was replaced by everything pink and white; pink bed, pink dresser, white vanity. It was a room fit for a princess.

"Uncle Alec!" Madzie came running out of her bedroom carrying several stuffed animals. "Let's play zoo."

Alec sighed. "Sweet pea, don't you think you have enough toys out here already? Uncle Magnus won't like the mess you've made."

The little warlock glanced around at the pile of toys around her. "No."

This prompted Alec to chuckle softly at her very honest response. "Alright. Fine. But we're cleaning all this up before they come home, okay?"

She nodded and handed him a koala. "You can be Kenny. He likes ice cream and chocolate bars."

Alec made the toy koala move around, giving the toy a gruff voice. "Hello Madzie. How much do you love your uncle Alec?"

Madzie giggled, spreading her arms out as wide as she could. "I love him this much!"

Alec laughed and quickly went back into character. "Good. He loves you a lot more!" He made the toy kiss her neck which caused her to keel over with laughter onto the carpet.

That's when his cell phone rang from across the room. Getting to his feet, he strode over to pick it up where it lay on the kitchen counter.

But by before stepping on a bunch of Madzie's Legos with his bare feet.

He yowled and quickly grabbed his foot in pain. Madzie was up and beside him in seconds, easing his pain with her magic.

"Uncle Alec! What happened?" She asked, worry in her voice.

"I....stepped on some of your Legos," Alec grumbled. He was ashamed to admit it, being a Shadowhunter and all. He was supposed to have grace when he walked. This most certainly wasn't graceful. "I thought you picked up the toys you were finished playing with?"

She shook her head. "No. I didn't pick up my Legos. I'm sorry, uncle Alec. I didn't mean for you to get hurt."

She cuddled into his chest and began to cry softly. This of course melted Alec's heart and he hugged her tight to his body. "It's okay little Button," he whispered softly to her. "I'm okay. See? My foot doesn't even hurt anymore."

Aside from a red mark on the skin of his foot, he felt fine. The stinging pain he felt before was long gone (thanks to Madzie's healing magic) and it was just a dull tingling sensation where the magic touched his skin.

"You're not lying are you?" Madzie glared at him.

Alec made an X over his heart. "Cross my heart and hope to die. I'm all better."

She seemed to believe him this time around. She moved her hand over his foot with her magic one more time before running off to play with her toys again.

Alec tested his foot by standing up and putting his weight on it. It felt good as new. "Madzie? Just make sure you clean up your toys off the floor when you're done with them, okay?"

"Okay!" She sang out from the living room.

Smiling, Alec carefully stepped over the Legos and made his way back to sit down with Madzie on the floor. The ringing of his phone earlier was just a text from Isabelle, asking what he was up to so he just ignored it.

"Wanna play unicorns again?" Madzie asked him.

Alec booped her on the nose. "I would love to." He picked up the unicorn again, clearing his throat to go into full unicorn mode once again.
