A Balanced Breakfast

The finishing touches were just being added onto breakfast when Magnus heard Alec grunt in pain. His boyfriend was finally awake after hours of being put under a sleeping potion to try and ease off the pain in his chest but the timing couldn't be more perfect.

Alec was attempting to sit up in bed when he walked in with the tray of food. "Hey. How long was I out?"

"Long enough for me to whip you up a delicious balanced breakfast," Magnus told him with a smile. He set the tray on the bed beside Alec, adjusting it so that it looked perfect.

Alec took one look at it before glancing up at Magnus. "Is today a special occasion?"

Magnus' soft smile was so adorable that if Alec hadn't been injured, he'd be on top of the warlock in seconds kissing that beautiful face. "It's your day off. And I want to make the most of it."

Alec looked down at the tray of food with a pouty face. "That's actually....really sweet. Thank you."

"I thought so." Magnus popped a piece of watermelon into his mouth. "You're welcome. And you'll be happy to know that this entire meal is magic free. Started everything right from scratch."

Hearing that it was magic free ate away at a hole in Alec's heart, and it wasn't the one that was already there on his chest. "Magnus...we're going to get your magic back. Once I'm back on my feet, I'm going to find a way to get it back one way or another."

Magnus heaved a sigh. "Alexander. As much as I appreciate the sentiment, I'm doing just fine without it. In fact, I kind of like it. Who knew vacuuming floors could be so therapeutic?"

The laugh that escaped Magnus' lips was forced and Alec knew it. "If I talk to Catarina later, will I hear a different story? Or are you actually telling me the truth now?"

Those hazel eyes had a power that even Magnus wasn't capable of, magic or no magic. They seemed to be slowly chipping away at the wall that he started to build just after he lost his powers to avoid breaking down completely.

"Fine. You'll probably hear a different story but the vacuuming part is quite true-"

"Magnus."

There they were again. The hazel orbs looking right into his soul while tugging at it in their direction. Magnus could only shake his head and breathe hard through his nose, mindlessly moving a strawberry around between his fingers.

"If you want the truth....I don't feel like myself. My magic has always been a big part of who I am and now that I don't have it....I've lost a large chunk of myself. It's like when someone loses a limb and they quite literally lose a piece of themselves. Well it feels the same for me except less drastic. I'm just glad Asmodeus didn't want my hands."

Alec reached over to squeeze Magnus' forearm. The movement caused a sharp pain in his chest but he ignored it. "Hey. You're still you. At the end of the day when everything is said and done, you're still the Magnus Bane I know and love. Magic or no magic. I love you both ways."

Feeling his heart squeeze, Magnus leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on Alec's lips. "What was in that sleeping potion Catarina gave you? You're extra soft today."

Alec's cheeks went pink. "Aren't I soft everyday?"

They snickered for a minute before Magnus picked up the tray to move it to the table. He crawled into bed beside Alec, the sheets feeling warm from the Shadowhunter's body being beneath them.

"How do you want to spend your day off today, Mr. Lightwood?" He asked.

Alec sighed. "Well. I can't do much considering I have a gaping hole in my chest that's healing slower than I'd like it to. But this is nice. Us. Cuddling. I could do this all day."

Magnus kissed the Shadowhunter's silky smooth shoulder. "Me too, angel. Me too."
