Chapter 8: Spurned Gods

In the Mystic Realm two spurned lovers talked by the pool of sight; one of darkness, the other of light. Neither able to forgive the other, nor are they able to live without the other. And the unjust of it all tore at her heart, while the cruelty fueled his soul.

Cassandra, Goddess of Light, sat on the cold stoned surface beside the pool of sight; where one only had to gazed into its depths, call forth what it was they wish to see, and on the surface it would appear. Her long white silk dressed draped around her, very nearly falling into the water, as her legs were bent off to the side. The image she wished for appeared, and she watched a girl, just barely of age, running through the woods. A single tear fell across her soft porcelain face. Her heart ached for the burden that was bestowed upon her.

"Did you really thought you could hide her from me? How foolish of you. It was unwise of you to create a being, Lady Cassandra. That you created her inside you, gave birth, gave it life! It is outrageous of you! It was your undoing," the man spoke up from beside her. His voice was cold as ice. He caressed her face with his hand, wiping away the tear with his thumb.

"You are growing weak. The mortals had forsaken you. To use the last of your energy on her was very reckless of you. It doesn't have to be this way. Be with me. Let us forget the past and love again," he said softly, his voice husky with want.

She flinched at his touch. Her eyes gleamed with the look of hurt at the one she once loved. "I will never be with you again. You know nothing of love! You are filled with hatred, you are bile and evil!"

"Very well, Cassandra," he pulled on her chained hands,"You will remain my prisoner. I had known what you were doing and I had made my own plans for her. You were never a match for me. The fates had it wrong." He paused staring into her eyes. "It doesn't matter, though. Despite what you say. I know you still feel for me. Your eyes give you away. You will be warming my bed soon enough." With that he left.

"You're despicable!" she shouted after him before her gaze lowered back down. "I'm so sorry..." she whispered as the vision turned back to water. Another tear escaped her, hitting the ground as she stood to leave.
