WAR
Early the next morning, all of Antieku was gathered upstairs in the lounge, however, the atmosphere was dark and dreary. Usually, the room was full of pleasant chatter, recounting tales of crazy customers and past experiences.
Today was different.
Himika of all people had called for this meeting, and she sat in a comfy striped armchair with her legs crossed and fingers tapping away nervously.
"What the hell did you interrupt work for?" Nishiki asked, an irritated look on his face.
"This is important, so please listen," Himika said, ignoring Nishiki's comments completely. "We're all in great danger."
The room burst into outrage, starting with Nishiki.
"Bullshit!" He roared. "The twenty-fourth ward, while it used to be pretty crazy, is peaceful!"
"Not anymore." Touka sighed. "I don't know if the manager told you what happened yesterday, but we've been discovered."
The room went silent again, everyone exchanging worried glances.
"What are we going to do?" Roma, the newest staff member asks.
"Yomo, take Hinami, Himika, and Touka to the safe house and stay there." Mr. Yoshimura said standing up.
"Wait," Himika said. "I wasn't finished."
Everyone sat back down and looked to the white-haired girl.
"The attack should happen anytime between now and tomorrow, but civilians must be evacuated before the attack." Himika said. "That gives us time to get out of here together."
"How do you know this?" Irimi asks the question they were all thinking.
"Long story incredibly short, I have an informant whose dad works with the CCG." She replies.
"When did this happen?" Koma inquires.
"When I went on a date with that idiot Kentaro." She scoffed.
"That's right!" Hinami agreed. "And Kentaro even gave me information yesterday, which I never got to tell you Himika!"
"It's alright Hinami, I already know." Himika reassured her best friend. "But now that we know an attack is coming we really should get out of here."
"Sorry, but that's not happening," Koma said, Irimi nodding along with him.
"We owe a debt, and we will defend Antieku with all we've got." Irimi added.
"This is a safe place for Kimi and me, and although it's a pain in the ass, I'll fight for it too." Nishiki said.
"I guess that I won't be able to convince you all to get out of here then." Himika chuckled. "But I'd like to fight too."
"No, you will go with Touka, Hinami and Yomo." Mr. Yoshimura put his foot down.
Himika nodded in defeat. She'd probably get out of there later anyway.
"Let's go," Yomo said, looking at each of the girls individually. "I'm taking you to the safe house."
Touka begrudgingly agreed and walked out of the room with Yomo, Hinami and Himika right behind her. They walked down the flight of stairs and into the main part of the coffee shop. Himika looked out the huge windows and noticed the van sitting out front. Normally people would be concerned if three girls were being lured to a van by a tall intimidating guy, but civilians were too busy evacuating to notice. That, and it was a familiar van that they had all been in before on numerous occasions, however, Hinami never went 'grocery shopping' because everyone at Antieku had agreed to keep Hinami as innocent as possible. This might have been a mistake, the world is rougher than Hinami realized, and the death of her parents had only opened her eyes.
"Get in." Yomo grunted, sliding into the driver's seat.
To most, he seemed cold, but that was just Yomo for you. Touka slid into the passenger seat and Himika opened the sliding back door, letting Hinami get in before climbing in herself and shutting the door.
"Buckle up." Yomo said, turning over the engine.
"Yes, mom." Touka chuckled, fastening her own seatbelt.
Hinami giggled and buckled her own seat belt, Himika rolled her eyes and smirked.
The car hummed to life and pulled away from Antieku, deeper into the twenty-fourth ward and in the opposite direction that civilians were headed. They eventually arrived at an old warehouse, and the word old didn't do it justice, it was more like ancient. The metal was just rust and the door squealed so loudly when opened it sounded like a dying pig.
"We'll be safe here," Yomo said, shutting the door after them and flicking a light switch.
Three old lights flickered on, giving the whole room a dark underground feel. Hinami looked slightly uncomfortable with the darkness, but Himika was quite contempt in the dimly lit space. Touka paced back and forth, a hand under her chin.
"So," Hinami awkwardly started. "Anyone want to play charades?"
"How do you play 'charades?'"
Touka groaned.
~Hours later~
Now dark out, a little over four hours had passed. The time was passed painfully and slowly, with games of charades and rock paper scissors tournaments. Yomo still stood silently by the entrance and Touka was getting sick of waiting around doing nothing.
"Please Yomo! Let me go help them!" Touka exclaimed. "They could be dying! Do you not care?!"
"Of course I care Touka, but I'm supposed to protect the three of you." Yomo replied.
"What if I took Himika with me?" Touka bargained. "She's probably as strong as me, if not stronger!"
Yomo looked back to Himika and Hinami. Hinami was talking away about something, but Himika had her attention on Yomo and awaited his answer.
"Fine," He gave in. "Take Himika with you, don't let her out of your sight."
Yomo stepped aside and Himika rose to her feet. "I'll be back later Hinami."
But Hinami stood up and followed after her. "I'm not weak, I'm coming and you can't stop me."
Yomo smiled at Hinami and nodded. "Well said."
"Everyone thinks I'm so damn weak! But this is a chance to prove that I'm good for something!" Hinami exclaimed.
"That's great and all Hinami, but while you were talking, Touka left." Himika said, jabbing a thumb towards the door.
"Crap!" Hinami exclaimed, grabbing her wrist. "Let's go!"
They exited the building with Yomo, who peered into the distance.
"I'm going to catch up with Touka, you two stay safe." Yomo said before speeding away, leaving them in the dust.
"What should we do?" Hinami asked.
"Check on Koma, Nishiki, and Irimi?" Himika suggested.
"Good idea." Hinami agreed, sniffing the air. "Do you smell that?"
"A shit ton of blood?"
"Yeah, that." Hinami agreed.
They shared another glance and took off in the direction of the blood. The wind rushed past their ears, but they stopped after hearing a crash and a lot of cursing.
"Fucking ow, that hurt like hell."
Himika peered into the alley. "Kentaro?"
"Himika? Oh god!" He exclaimed in relief. "And Hinami, so glad I ran into you!"
"Why are you here!?" Hinami exclaimed.
"I've been found out, my dad overheard our conversation earlier and pieced it together." He sighed. "I'm on the run."
"Join the club." Himika snorted.
"So, can I come with?" He asked.
"How would he keep up?" Hinami asks.
"I have an idea." Himika chuckled darkly.
Kentaro laughed nervously.
~later~
Himika couldn't be any happier. Although there was a war raging on in their surroundings, she couldn't help but feel satsified.
"I think what was left of my dignity is gone." Kentaro sighed.
Kentaro rode piggyback style on a lightning clone of Himika. Hinami giggled.
"It's not that bad!" She insisted.
"I'm enjoying this." Himika grinned.
"Why'd you have to make it out of lightning though?" Kentaro asked. "I feel like I'm going to be zappd."
"It's so that if the clone is attacked, it can explode into lightning and shock the enemy," She explained. "Hopefully after you are out of the way."
"And if I'm not?"
"Then I've created a huge pesk zapper."
Kentaro regretted his life choices.
