Faded Ink: Chapter 10
Dream slashed open a rift in the fabric of space and time with one of his blades, revealing a mesmerizing yellow expanse beyond. It radiated an aura of boundless positivity and the purest dreams imaginable. Without hesitation, Dream leaped into the rift, and Lucky followed suit.
"Every time I step into this place, it's hard to believe its beauty," Lucky remarked, marveling at the vibrant dreamscape.
Chuckling softly, Dream agreed, "Indeed. Despite the challenges we face, the Dream Plane remains a sanctuary of hope and positivity."
Dream loved to be here. This place helped him relax when his day took a wrong turn.
Their moment of awe, however, was brief, as Dream's expression turned serious. "But we're not here for leisure," he declared, setting off with purpose. After a brisk run through the dream-filled realm, they arrived at its boundary, where another realm awaited – the Nightmare Plane.
Without hesitation, Dream plunged into the dark and gloomy Nightmare Plane, followed closely by the cautious Lucky. The transition was palpable; the air grew heavy with the essence of nightmares, and shadows lurked ominously.
In the eerie silence of the Nightmare Plane, Dream's gaze cut through the darkness as he sought out the tormented souls affected by Nightmare. The spectral figures, remnants of lives consumed by darkness, were visible only to him.
A heavy sigh escaped Dream as he confronted the harsh reality. "All of them... lost to Nightmare's cruel manipulation," he muttered, a profound sadness etched on his face. The weight of the countless souls he couldn't save weighed on him, a constant reminder of the malevolence he fought against.
The anguish in Dream's eyes deepened as he reflected on the persistent agony caused by Nightmare. A solemn determination replaced his sorrow, fueled by an unwavering hatred for the entity that reveled in the suffering of others.
"Every negative emotion I feel is a testament to Nightmare's malevolence," Dream declared, his blades gleaming with renewed intensity.
In a swift and determined move, Dream spotted a faint glimmer of life within a tortured soul and wasted no time. Grasping Lucky's hand, he leaped into the soul's essence, blades at the ready.
The ethereal surroundings shifted, enveloping them in a surreal realm. With a dagger clenched in his teeth and another in his hand, Dream's eyes burned with a newfound resolve. "This time... I won't let you escape!" he silently vowed, his determination echoing in the spiritual plane.
In the blink of an eye, Dream found himself in a twisted world tainted by Nightmare's influence. Something, however, felt peculiar. Releasing Lucky's hand, he swiftly identified Nightmare attempting to rise from a dazed state due to a concussion.
A surge of rage overcame Dream, a shadow casting over his face. Without hesitation, he executed a lightning-fast dropkick, catching Nightmare off guard. Seizing one of Nightmare's arms, Dream ruthlessly slammed him to the ground repeatedly, rendering him temporarily immobile.
The usual escape tactic of Nightmare, transforming into a liquid state, was thwarted by the unique properties of Dream's boots and gauntlets. Ensuring Nightmare remained pinned, Dream's eyes glinted with a mix of fury and determination as he prepared to confront the embodiment of darkness head-on.
"Where. Are. They," Dream demanded, his voice laced with determination and anger. The overwhelming positivity he emanated made Nightmare flinch, but he resisted as much as he could, squirming under the pressure of Dream's boots.
"I don't know, shithead. They freaking beat me," Nightmare sneered, his defiance met with increased pressure from Dream's boots.
"Good. Next round is incoming," Dream declared, a steely resolve in his eyes. "I would have checked on the victim and dropped them off in the Omega Timeline, but right now? I'm feeling kinda... mad."
With a forceful kick, Dream sent Nightmare airborne, only to quickly teleport above him. Nightmare, recovering swiftly, met Dream with a malevolent smile, ready to engage in a fierce exchange of blows. The air crackled with tension as the battle between light and darkness unfolded.
As Nightmare unleashed his tentacles, Dream expertly dodged each menacing strike. Seizing an opportunity, Dream grabbed an axe, executing a wild jump in an attempt to cleave Nightmare in two. However, Nightmare skillfully evaded the attack, teleporting behind Dream and slamming himself against Dream's back.
The clash sent both beings hurtling to the ground, creating a substantial crater upon impact. Quick to adapt, Dream rolled and regained his footing, swiftly positioning himself atop Nightmare. With a resolute stomp, Dream slammed his foot against Nightmare's face, the force causing a grotesque splatter that echoed the ferocity of their otherworldly battle.
Sadly, Nightmare regenerated and got away in a blink of an eye.
Nightmare, grinning malevolently, lifted a colossal mountain near him, his tentacles manipulating it effortlessly like puppet strings. Mockingly, he taunted Dream, "Last time you couldn't even lift your dignity that high... AHAHAHAHAH!! PATHETIC!"
The ground was shaking as the rubble was everywhere.
With a wicked laugh, Nightmare hurled the massive mountain down onto Dream.
Meanwhile, Lucky, unable to intervene directly, could only watch from her vantage point atop a tree, a silent witness to the fierce battle between Dream and Nightmare.
Dream, feeling the weight of the mountain bearing down on him, stood resolute, eyes closed, and a calm expression on his face. Memories of a destroyed village fueled his determination. As the mountain descended, he flexed his feet, the weight pushing more.
In the slow-motion dance of conflict, Nightmare seized the opportunity, reaching out to claim Dream's soul. However, Dream's inner consciousness resisted vehemently, declaring, "NO! I AM A GUARDIAN. I WON'T FALL LIKE THIS."
Dream's gaze darkened, and he stared directly into Nightmare's eyes. With a sudden burst of strength, he lifted his foot and slammed it down, causing cracks to spiderweb across the surreal landscape. Spears of positivity erupted from the ground, piercing Nightmare, who hissed in fear.
As Dream punched the mountain above, he filled it with overwhelming positive energy, creating a protective barrier around them. The mountain, now infused with positivity, exploded within the protective sphere, unleashing a wave of transformative energy.
"Nightmaaaaaaaareee!" Dream's rage echoed through the tumultuous battleground as he charged towards Nightmare. Despite the impending clash, Nightmare maintained a sinister smile, tauntingly calling Dream a "dear abortion."
"You know what very well! Hurt people one more time, and I'll destroy you!" Dream declared with unwavering resolve.
"Hmmm... What a stupid request," Nightmare sneered, his words cut short by Dream's explosive retaliation. A swift uppercut followed by a rapid descent with his greatsword marked the beginning of a fierce physical confrontation between the embodiment of dreams and the harbinger of nightmares.
With a vice-like grip, Dream seized Nightmare's arm and ruthlessly battered him against the razor-sharp edge of his greatsword. Each impact carved into Nightmare's face, causing him to flinch as the onslaught continued. The clash between Dream's positivity and Nightmare's negativity intensified, creating a volatile mix of forces.
Attempting to escape the relentless assault, Nightmare tried to teleport away. However, Dream, fueled by determination, punched through Nightmare's torso, preventing his escape. Unyielding, Dream unleashed a barrage of kicks upon Nightmare, making it clear that he had no intention of going easy on the embodiment of darkness.
With unbridled determination, Dream powered through, inflicting blow after punishing blow upon Nightmare. The battleground crackled with the clash of their opposing energies. Finally, seizing the moment, Dream unleashed his ultimate assault.
In a surge of raw power, Dream conjured a cascade of radiant spears, each pulsating with pure positivity. With a resolute cry, he thrust his greatsword forward, directing the luminous barrage directly at Nightmare. The spears pierced through the darkness, enveloping Nightmare in a radiant explosion of transformative energy.
As the brilliant display faded, Dream stood amidst the aftermath, his greatsword planted firmly in the ground. The once gloomy Nightmare Plane now glowed with renewed hope and vibrancy. The embodiment of dreams had triumphed over the shadows, marking the end of the relentless battle against Nightmare.
Dream, standing victorious over the remnants of Nightmare, held a black apple in his hand. With a swift transformation, the apple turned golden, symbolizing the restoration of balance and positivity.
As Nightmare, reduced to a singular eye, made a begrudging comment, "Even after all these years... You're annoying as ever..." the numerical balance of apples shifted. Dream now held 502 golden apples, a testament to the triumph of dreams and positivity, while Nightmare, left with 498.
Nightmare escaped again.
