The Chennai International Airport's ceiling has fallen down 76 times in the last few years. They are made of glass and at every fall, large number of people get injured.

The poem “London bridge is falling down” could be rephrased as “Chennai Airport’s Glasses are falling down” as it created history with the huge number of falls. The real reason behind the mysterious fall of glass panels has been found.

We all know that glasses are made mainly of silica, which is none other than sand. The glass panels for the airport were made in Tamil Nadu’s remote Andipatti village which happened to be the first ever constituency, won by TN Chief Minister Amma(Jayalalithaa) in her maiden elections. And as expected, this constituency has quite a lot of Amma fanatics who are ready to even sacrifice their life for the AIADMK party’s Supremo.

One such man was Mr. Ammachamy, who has even renamed his name to show his loyalty to Amma. Ammachamy was an active member of the AIADMK party right from his childhood and he gradually rose from an entry level member to higher positions thereby eventually becoming an MLA of first Jayalalitha led government. It was known from Andipatti residents that ‘Ammachamy’ grabbed Amma’s attention by his bending skills in order to grab Amma’s attention whenever she visited the village.

After several bendings, he was promoted to MLA candidate just like any other AIADMK MLA. One day, Ammachamy while watching “Amma’s arrest” related to the asset case on television died of heart attack. He was buried in a cemetry at Andipattu. Here it is to be noted that, a glass manufacturing factory was later set up in the same place, which later had produced the ‘Glass Panels’ for the Chennai Airport.

Since Ammachamy’s remain still remains on the sand at the cemetry, it eventually got mixed in the glass used to manufacture the Airport’s glass panels. So whenever Amma has been there to Chennai Airport or its nearby places, the airport’s glass panels break down at the feet of Amma to show Ammachamy’s loyalty.

  Ammachamy still exists in form of glass panels at the Chennai Airport bowing down to his beloved party leader and hence they are expected to break more and more in the future since Amma has become an indispensable force in Tamil Nadu politics!
