Guy | Girl

She came into detention late that day. Her hair was tied up in a messy ponytail and her face was set into a deep scowl. It had been a bad day for her.

"Yo, Mr. J. She's late to detention." He pointed towards the girl, his smile curled up into a conniving smirk.

If looks could kill, he would surely have felt the glare that she sent him. Mr. J looked up from where he was sitting, his balding head reflecting the sun better than a mirror. His face set into a deeper frown than on the girl.

"She's excused. Now be quiet and don't bother me." Mr. J snapped. The smirk fell off his face.

The girl hummed in barely suppressed arrogance and amusement. "If you wanted to get me in trouble, you have to try harder than that." She started pulling out her novel, immersing herself into the story. "Don't you want to know how I'm excused?"

He rolled his eyes. "Fine, I'll bite. Attendance slips? Your family's a trustee? You and a teacher?" He gasped scandalously, clearly mocking her. "You and Mr. J? Oh, I didn't know you had it in you. I'm very impressed."

"Shut up, you ass."  She grimaced in disgust. "The fact you even suggested it, ew. Just because you'd like to smash one of your teachers doesn't mean I do."

"There you go, hyper sexualizing me again." He tsked. "Isn't that what you just told me yesterday? Not all guys have a teacher thing."

She lifted an eyebrow pointedly, barely looking up from her book. "Your nose is looking especially long today. " She teased. "I know how you guys talk about  Miss Evans. Liar is not a good look on you."

"Okay, I'd admit. Any guy in the school would jump at a chance with Miss Evans. But hey, you still haven't told me why you're excused. Maybe it'll explain why you look like you want to murder someone."

"Physics contest." She grumbled.

His hands flew up in the air. "Right up your alley then."  He watched her carefully. "Why do you look so pissed then? Some poor soul beat you out of first place and you had to go beat them up?"

Putting his hand on heart, he faked a look of sympathy and sincerity. "I'm deeply sorry that unfortunately, you're not the biggest geek in school."

"Your imagination is too vivid for your own good." She snorted. "But if you must know, we didn't win the physics contest." She put down her book, huffing in exasperation. "But we might've if my team of meatheads let me take charge."

"Why didn't they? You're plenty bossy." He poked at her.

Her face darkened immediately. "Ugh. I hate the word bossy. But why is it when a girl is assertive she gets shot down for being pushy or bossy or aggressive? But when a guy is assertive, he's a great leader." She ranted.

"Those idiots at the contest thought I would screw up everything. No one listened to my ideas or my contributions. They shot down everything I said. I would say something and a moment alter a guy would say the same thing and take credit for my ideas."

She shook her head bitterly."The winning team ended up with the same design that I originally drew."

He looked at her observingly. Suddenly quiet. Even a bit confused.  "You're the smartest girl in school though. You've been in robotics for years."

"Yeah. But does it matter? At the end of the day, I'm still a girl. Meant to listen. Not to lead."
