Facing Crime
Jerry was tired of his mother. He felt like all she did was nag and complain. Jerry had lost his job a couple months ago and now had to live with her. The only reason he put up with her for so long was because he knew there was going to be a large life insurance policy payout when she died. The only problem was that she was healthy as a horse.
One day when he was at the local diner, he found a wallet lying on top of his table. He searched the contents to find twenty dollars (which he kept for himself) and a driver’s license. Jerry took the wallet home with him.
His mother that night was in a foul mood. “Why don’t you care about me anymore, Jerry? My only child hates me. What did I do wrong? I’m the only one who will love you forever!” She said. Jerry ran to his room and covered his ears with his hands. He rocked himself back and forth on his bed. He screamed out in frustration as she went on and on.
Then he saw the wallet. It was lying down beside him on the bed. He looked again at the driver’s licence. It belonged to Samuel Williams, a man who resembled Jerry. Samuel was so stupid for forgetting his wallet. He knew for certain he’d never let something so stupid send him to jail.
A wicked thought came into his mind. If she wasn’t going to drop dead naturally, why not murder her? If Jerry dropped the wallet near his mother’s dead body Samuel would be the suspected killer.
Two nights later Jerry went into a hotel and put on a large trench coat and hat. He walked into the house with his hand over the gun in his pocket. Jerry wanted to make sure some neighbours saw this mysterious man enter the house, it would make Samuel look even more suspicious.
In the house he found his mother in the kitchen. He pulled the trigger on the gun and watched his mother fall right after the loud bang. Jerry dropped the wallet near her body and ran away as quickly as he could.
When he got back to the hotel he took of his disguise and walked back into the house. He called the cops and waited for them to come. He watched them intensely as they examined her body and discovered the wallet. They sent out a few men to find Samuel. They took the body and cleaned up the kitchen.
The next morning Jerry was overcome with relief. He couldn’t believe he managed to pull off the perfect murder. A loud knock came at the door. When Jerry opened it he saw one of the officers from last night standing there.
“How may I help you, officer?” He asked
“We thought you might want to know who your mother’s killer is.” The officer told him.
“Isn’t it Samuel Williams?” Jerry asked raising an eyebrow.
“No sir. I’m here to arrest you.”
“Me? That’s insane. I didn’t do it.”
“We have witnesses saying they saw a man leaving the house soon after the gun shots were fired. That all said he had the same physical distinction. And, well, Jerry you’re the only one in this town with that kind of facial scar.”
