It took three days for everyone to find out. They all had busy work and home lives so it was understandable.
But in the three days everyone could see something off with Felix and they definitely knew something was going on with Hyunjin.
They all just wished they knew sooner.
“I can't believe him!”
Soyeon pursed her lips.
“How could he do that to Felix?” Yuqi questioned, frustrated.
“Baby, you have to see it from his point of view, he waited so long for Felix and it just felt like it wouldn't work,”
“Soyeon, they are celebrating three years as a couple. That means they got together months after Felix left from being with Hyunjin,”
“I know but before that? Hyunjin was in love with Felix for two-three years?” She questioned.
“Okay, but they made the decision together to wait until the time was right. To wait until Felix was ready and to wait until Felix finished law school. They made that decision,”
The older woman sighed, “Maybe, that is true, but maybe, just maybe Hyunjin didn't want that anymore,”
“Then he should have told Felix, so Felix could move on too and not just sit around carrying a torch for someone who didn't have the time to simply say he didn't want to wait anymore,” Yuqi stated.
This was a hill Yuqi was ready to die on.
-
“Let's go shopping,” Jisung said.
“I know what you are going, Sung,” Felix said.
“Yeah, well, I don't know what else to do,”
“I am fine, Ji,”
Jisung scoffed, “Really? Because you haven't expressed a single thing besides happiness in the past four days when I know you have known about the engagement since your party,”
Felix pursed his lips and let out a breath, “And what am I supposed to feel? Am I supposed to feel sad? Angry? Completely fucking broken because the person that I was in love with for what?
Five-six years chose someone else, when we told each other we'd wait, and on top of that, the day he promised he wouldn't miss, he missed because he was in a different country proposing to her.
Am I supposed to fall apart and wallow over some fucking guy?” Felix questioned venom lacing every word spoken, anger becoming more prominent in each sentence.
“Yes, because that would be more believable than you smiling all the time,” Jisung said softly.
“Maybe I don't want to feel that way. Maybe I just want to smile and ignore it, so please, let's just ignore it,”
“Okay, then, me and you shopping date and then we will link up with Yuqi and Soyeon and go to a club,”
Felix nodded, “That sounds like a plan,” he said.
Jisung nodded, “Let's go, the mall waits for no-one,”
-
The mall thankfully was not packed, it was relatively quiet given it was a Wednesday late afternoon.
“I say we get new clothes for tonight, while most of us are not single, you are and I think you should hook-up,” Jisung stated.
“Is hooking-up really a good idea?” Felix questioned unsure.
“It is a great idea. You can forget about he who shall not be named and you get a good fuck, hopefully,”
Felix chuckled at Jisung's wording.
“Okay, we are dressing to have a hookup,”
“Crop top definitely,” Jisung said.
“Let's just not recreate that angel costume from the Halloween party,” Felix stated.
“Fine, but we are using glitter,”
Felix nodded and looked at the assortment of tops. He’d rather haphazardly crop a full shirt than buy a crop top.
“Come on, you need new shirts! We just moved back and you have stuff from when you were still 16 in there,” a woman's voice said.
Felix chuckled.
“Because I like those shirts, they are comfortable and have served me well since I was sixteen,”
Felix's whole body stilled, his hand grasping the hanger in front of him so hard his knuckles turned white.
“Okay, so? It is good to update your clothes once in awhile especially when half of your clothes have paint on them,”
He could hear Hyunjin laugh softly, “Fine, fine, whatever you want, Angel,”
Jisung hadn't heard because he was by the pants at least six feet away.
Felix was frozen. His face was heating up because of how anxious he began to feel and his fingers felt cold to the point they were hurting.
His stomach felt like it was in knots, almost like a weasel had made its home there.
He could hear them getting closer, but he couldn't move like someone had glued his feet to the floor.
The two came into view and all Felix could do was stand there and blankly stare at the stupid band shirts in front of him.
He caught a glimpse of her though. The blue sweater she was wearing was all too familiar as the one from the New Jersey trip.
The same trip Felix had come to terms with the fact that he had fallen in love with Hyunjin. The New Jersey trip where Hyunjin bought that stupid fairy, and that stupid necklace that to this day Felix wears and cherishes.
The stupid New Jersey trip where Hyunjin bought that stupid circlet crown that Felix keeps on his dresser to this day as a reminder to that moment when he finally realised he was positively in love with Hyunjin.
However, all they were now, were reminders of something that once was.
“Felix?” Hyunjin's voice practically echoed in the brunet's ears.
It took everything not to break down and instead put on a smile. A smile that even Yuqi could believe.
Hyunjin, however, was not Yuqi. Hyunjin knew him. He knew every sign and tell of him about to cry.
He could just tell and Felix hated that. He could throw his best friend off with a smile, but he couldn't throw Hyunjin off. Hyunjin had watched him, learning every little thing he wanted to know.
“Hey,” Felix said softly, a smile still on his face.
“Felix, are you-” Hyunjin was cut off by the woman in the blue sweater walking up, “So, I found these two… sorry, was I interrupting something?” She asked when she noticed Felix.
Felix shook his head, “No, I should actually get back to my friend,” he said, grabbing the shirt he wanted off the rack.
“Wait, Felix,” Hyunjin said.
“Oh, you guys know each other? I am Sophia Cortez, Hyunjin's fiancée,”
“Barely, we ran somewhat in the same group during undergrad, but we don't know each other, not anymore. It was nice to meet you Ms. Cortez, however, I should get back to my friend,”
“Felix, can we catch up sometime?” Hyunjin asked almost desperately.
“I really can't. I am going to be busy, sorry,”
Felix walked off leaving the two.
“You guys knew each other in undergrad?” Sophia asked.
“Something like that… uh, we should finish up here,” Hyunjin said.
Sophia nodded.
Hyunjin glanced over to Felix. Jisung was practically staring daggers at him.
This is not how he wanted things to go.
