Atsushi heard the explosion, and he knew as he was running around the back alley, he was too late.
Scarlet ran down in rivers from your arm, as Dazai pulled you away from yourself.
"So this is what you're scared of. Now, you see Y/N, this is why we're watching you. That could've been bad." Dazai said, as he stared your mirror image down.
"Atsushi, take her." He said, his body wrapped in a white glow.
He walked towards you, scooping you into his arms.
I barely could protest, my body was shaking and my legs were weak.
Dazai stared into the reflections eyes, his own narrowing.
"Oh you are indeed creepy. Come at me." He smiled.
"I know who you are. I'll pass." It grinned back, it's voice a warped reflection of your own.
"Oh my dear, I need you to go away for Y/N's sake, so." He grinned as he lunged forward.
The reflection faltered, before it jumped back itself, running away from Dazai.
He nodded to Atsushi, before he ran after it, disappearing into the city.
"Y/N, it's okay. He's going to get rid of it." Atsushi assured me, as he helped me to stand.
I shook my head. "No- he can't- it- it's tracking me. It must've copied another ability- Atsushi, it'll copy his..." I stammered.
"Look let's get you back to the agency, come on." He said, helping me to walk.
He briefly went to speak to my boss, who just nodded and shunned him away, before he walked me to the agency.
He had to hold me up the whole time, as my legs kept shaking.
"How did it find me, how did it find me." I mumbled, biting at my lip.
"Y/N, it's going to be okay." He said, trying to comfort me as best he could.
Not very well, mind you.
He sat me down in the infirmary, as he went to find Yosano.
I looked at my arm, where the skin had been grazed from the explosion.
Dazai was right. I did need to be watched. That could've been really bad.
I tried to pull my leg up to look at it, but it ached, as I saw my ankle turning purple.
I bit at my tongue to stop myself from screaming, and dropped my leg back down.
I had stopped trembling, but anxiety was gnawing at my insides as I waited.
What was taking Atsushi so long?
When he finally came back, Yosano was with him.
"I'd say I would help you if you were in a rough condition, but really it's just your ankle. I can make it go away, but it'll hurt a lot more than your ankle does." She explained.
"Just use your power, I don't mind." I said, as Atsushi left the room.
Yosano's eyes lit up, as she grabbed her chainsaw.
Short story was that it was really bloody, and really painful.
But on the bright side, I felt much better.
Atsushi let me sit at Dazai's desk as he finished up work, before he escorted me home.
He went to leave, but I grabbed his wrist.
"Please, stay. What if it comes for me?" I whispered.
"Y/N, Dazai is going to sort it out." Atsushi explained, but I held onto him tighter.
"Why isn't he back yet, then?" I asked.
"I'll stay with you until I get a call from Dazai, okay?" He smiled, walking inside my apartment.
I hugged him as he did, and he flinched slightly, before he hugged me slightly back.
We sat in silence for an hour or so, before I got to making dinner.
There was a knock at the door as I was halfway through making the rice, which made me jump.
"I'll get it." Atsushi said, walking over to the door.
As he opened it, I felt the weight lift off of my shoulders.
Dazai came wandering in.
"Is it gone?" I asked.
He just nodded briskly.
"That is correct my dearest Y/N. No need to fear, I've saved you." He smiled.
I dropped the spoon, running over to hug him.
He just fiddled with my hair as I sobbed into his chest.
"Dazai.. I don't even know how to thank you... it's- that thing- it's been haunting me forever... thank you." I smiled, as I looked up at him.
"Well, you can payback the favour my joining us. I miss my own house, we can't spend forever looking after you here." He said.
I nodded. "Sure, yes, anything."
I finally let go of his coat, and went to finish off making the dinner, when Dazai pulled Atsushi into another room.
"So?" Atsushi asked.
"I may have lied." Dazai said grimly.
He just blinked in response.
"That thing mimicked my ability. Cancelled it before I could cancel its own ability out. It's been 'alive' for so long now, it's practically it's own being. It'll have to be killed like a normal one, too. The problem is that it mimics everything. That includes your ability, and literally anyone else. We can't let it meet Yosano, because then we'll be doomed." Dazai explained.
"So what do you propose then? We can't keep lying to Y/N." Atsushi said, glancing into the kitchen.
You looked a lot happier now, and he imagines that would disappear if you knew the truth.
"We kill it, like you would normally kill a person. It doesn't go against any morals, saying it's not a living being. It doesn't have a heartbeat, so if we can disassemble the thing, everything will be fine." He grinned.
"You make that sound easy." Atsushi frowned.
"It is, in a way. I need to call Kunikida, so he can talk to the president about arranging a trial for Y/N to join us. She's met most of us, however, so that won't help." Dazai said as he walked down the hall, leaving Atsushi to return to you.
"He's calling the president about accepting your request to join." Atsushi explained, sitting at the table as I served the food down.
"How did you join?" I asked.
"Kind of under the same conditions as you, actually. I'm kind of a newer member, you see. There was a bounty on the head of this tiger, and that happened to be me before I could control my ability." He explained briefly.
"Were they, determined?" I asked.
"They sent Akutagawa after me every time. Then Kyouka- oh you haven't met her yet! She works with us now." He rambled on. "I think you'll like her. She's young though."
"Well that's concerning. They sent a child after you?" I asked.
"She has this ability from her mum, so yeah." He nodded.
Dazai came back in, taking his seat at the four-seater table.
"You're welcome to join us tomorrow. You can call your boss whenever you're ready to tell him you're quitting." Dazai grinned, as he dug in.
Atsushi just glanced at Dazai, almost scowling to himself.
He shouldn't of lied to you.
Since now, if you found out, you probably wouldn't trust them.
You would probably go running straight into the Port Mafia's arms.
