eleven
Dazai gripped his phone by his side, before placing it down on the table, the members of the agency all seated, watching him intently.
"So?" The president, Fukuzawa asked, as Dazai pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Mori tricked her, but I don't think she's thinking straight. He's playing on her fears. I'll get her, don't worry about it." Dazai explained, shoving his hands in his coat pocket.
"She's still under our protection though, right? So it's everyone's job to save her." Atsushi said, standing up.
"Not exactly." Kunikida started, glancing at Dazai, and then to the President.
"We can't say for sure whether she's joined them or not, Atsushi. So at this point, she's not our problem anymore. Dazai, did she even tell you anything? That she wanted help?"
Dazai just glanced at Kunikida, smiling slightly.
"She told me it'll all be okay."
I just stared up at Mori, at his outstretched hand. I couldn't say yes, I wouldn't.
But why wasn't the word 'no' coming up in my throat?
"You can just nod. I'll accept it." Mori said, as I felt my heart pounding in my ears.
"Oh go on Y/N, accept the man's offer. It'll give your pitiful life worth for once." It called out, as I shook my head.
"No, no, I can't." I whispered, as I noticed Mori tense.
"What was that, dear? You said no? Now, that's not an answer." Mori said, as I noticed his fist tense, the other hand still in front of me.
I reached for my phone - why did I say that to Dazai? I didn't mean it. He was just trying to protect me.
I mean, it's not like she was on the loose... I was technically safe...
Mori kicked it away, standing up straight, as he grabbed the back of my hair, pulling me up.
I screamed, as he just shoved me against the wall.
"You're not giving me the right answer here, Y/N. I just want what's best for you." Mori said, as I just kept my eyes to the ground, at my phone which was mere inches away from it now.
"No, no, I want to go home." I whispered, trying to move to the side as Mori grabbed at the collar of my shirt, pushing me to the ground.
"This is useless. What happens next is all your fault, dear." He scoffed, walking off and leaving me down here, as I heard the door lock shut.
"Oh. It's just me and you." It laughed, as I glanced up.
I ran over, grabbing my phone before running back as fast as I could, holding the device to my chest, my breathing heavy.
I wanted to call Dazai, but why would he pick up?
I had messed up.
But I did anyways, watching it ring.
Once.
Twice.
Then on the third try, he picked up.
Dazai was halfway on his way to the Port Mafia base as his phone began vibrating.
He ignored it at first, before he sighed, pulling it from his pocket.
"Y/N."
"Oh." Dazai said, picking up.
"I didn't mean it Dazai, I'm so sorry. Please don't leave me here." Y/N said, and Dazai knew she was panicking.
"Don't worry, I'm coming to get you right now. I told you the Port Mafia is evil. Just hang in there."
"Mori left me with that thing. I can't.. I feel like I'm going to be sick."
Dazai sighed, staring up at the headquarters in front of him.
"Ten minutes Y/N. Start counting. I'll be there."
He hung up, and took a step inside.
I was counting, as he had said.
But ten minutes turned to an hour quickly, and an hour turned into six, and six hours turned into ten, as I lay on the cold concrete floors, hugging the device to my chest.
I heard the door open, as I sat up quickly, and instead of the man I was wishing for, a cloth came flying at me, yanking me towards him.
"Boss told me to come and get you. So let's go." Akutagawa said, dropping me as I stared up at him.
I followed slowly, my footsteps uneven.
"Why?" I asked, as Akutagawa just glanced back.
"Well, he figured you'd cave in if we left you with her for awhile. You seem quite exhausted already, how pathetic. Then Dazai comes hunting for you, so we have to hide you. Although, he's been captured as well. You're splitting up our truce, Y/N, I hope you're aware of that." Akutagawa explained, stopping outside another door.
He pulled it open, grabbing ahold of my arm as he pushed me inside.
"You'll be staying in here, where you can either rot, or join us. It shouldn't be that hard of a decision really, unless your life is that worthless and you plan to throw it away. I'll be back in the morning." Akutagawa coughed, before vanishing, leaving me in the dark.
The room just had a bed, and a toilet. That was it.
I just lay down on it, my knees to my chest.
What did Akutagawa mean by they captured Dazai? I didn't even think that was possible?
But I guess, he was only human, after all.
