Soha's pov:

The day started like any other ordinary day.  A bit chilly, but a perfect day to be in pj's and sleep in. Unlocking the phone I saw it was 7:30 am. I had an hour and half left to get ready. So I logged into Facebook.

There was some messages from a few people with whom Mahi was chatting. But there was none from Rahat. I had told him to call me Soha, my real name. But he didn't doubt anything. Maybe he thought it was my nickname or something.

"Should I text him? What if he thinks I'm clingy? What should I say? Maybe good night?" After fighting a battle with my brain, I decided on a simple 'Hey', so that he wouldn't think I was desperate, not that I was. But you got what I meant, right?

Mahi got busier and we didn't hang out as much as we used to. So, I started spending my free time on Facebook and most of the time chatted with Rahat.

And I found the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" was true. Rahat turned out different from what I thought he would be after arguing the very first time. We still argued over silly things. But I found out that he had never been in love. Neither did he bunked school nor pranked the teachers.

In a few words, he was a goody two shoes back in school. He was what I never was. I had done all those things before. He too,  asked me many questions. And the surprising part was I answered most of them truthfully.

I had never been as bored as I was now, trying to pay attention to the lecture. Our professor, Mrs. Hayat was a wonderful lady. She  had the talent to make any insomniac sleep within ten minutes with her amazing lectures. Note the sarcasm. I was brainstorming for ways to stay awake when my cell phone vibrated.

It was a message from Rahat.

[Me= Soha. Him= Rahat]

Him: Hey there, kid.

Me: I'm not a kid.

Him: yes, you are.

Me: I. Am. Not!

Him: According to Unicep all the boys and girls under 18 are children = kids.  And you're seventeen.

I couldn't tell him about my real age. So there was no point in arguing.

Me: Whatever.

Him: So, what's up?

Me: Bored to sleep. The teacher is blabbering for the last twenty minutes.

Him: How come you are texting in the class?

Me: I'm rebel. :p

Him: You'll get detention.

Me: Really? I didn't know that.

Him: Don't need to be sarcastic, kid.

I smiled reading his text. But it seemed like the fate couldn't bear seeing me smile. "Miss Soha!" Someone yelled my name. I almost jumped out of my seat. "Yes ma'am?" I replied.

"Tell me what do you understand by 'linguistic imperialism'?" Mrs. Hayat looked expectantly at me as if she knew I didn't know the answer. I smirked mentally.

"Woman, I have read the whole chapter before. Your efforts to make me uncomfortable will go in vain."

I thought to myself and answered her question. pursing her lips in a tight line she told me to sit down and got back to her duty of making the students asleep.

Rahat left three messages asking if the teacher caught me red handed and I replied him in the affirmative.

Him: Hey, wanna play never have I ever?

Me: Sure. At least it's better than the boring lecture.

Him: I'll start. Never have I ever got caught texting in class room.

Me: I have. Never have I ever drank alcohol.

Him: I have. And you're underage. In case you have forgotten.

Him: Never have I ever been to a village.

Me: I have. Never have I ever been to a stadium to watch cricket or any other sports.

Him: Really? I have. Many times. When I was in India. I miss watching cricket matches  while sitting in the gallery surrounded by thousands of people.

I heard someone shouting my name over and over while I was typing a reply.

"Miss. Soha! Get out of my class." Mrs. Hayat ordered glaring at me.

"With pleasure." Muttering the short sentence, I took my bag and exited the room.

I went to the library  and sat on a chair in the corner where the librarian couldn't see me. I texted Rahat again.

Me: Are you there?

Him: Yeah, you still in the classroom?

Me: Nah. She kicked me out.

Him: It's my fault. I shouldn't have texted you while you were in the classroom.

Me: Hey, don't blame yourself. She just couldn't digest the truth that I already knew what she was teaching better than herself. :p

Him: Ha ha. Talk to you later then. It's 1:34 am. And I have to wake up early in the morning.

Me: I understand. It's a week day. I'm sorry for keeping you up this late.

Him: It's okay. It was fun talking to you.

Me: Good night.

Him: Take care.

Logging out of Facebook, I put the cellphone in my bag. Today was Monday, so Mahi had a free hour next. She told me that she wanted to talk about something. So, I headed to her faculty building. I waited in front of Mahi's classroom. Her classmates came out of the room one by one but she never did. I saw a nerdy and timid looking girl and asked her if she knew about Mahi's whereabouts.

Mahi was popular among her fellow classmates. Everyone knew Mahi for bubbly and friendly behavior of hers. She was associated with different clubs and always came forward to help when needed. So, it was very unlikely to not know her. The girl told me that Mahi never came to the class but I couldn't trust her words.

I had escorted Mahi in front of her faculty before this period started. "Where could she go?"
I could call her. " Why didn't I think of that before?" With that thought, I got my phone out and called her several times. But she didn't answer for once.

Mahi's pov:

The first phone call I received from Soha was when I was about to enter the cafe. I couldn't receive her call or she would have inquired about my whereabouts. I couldn't lie to her anymore. I needed to tell her about this. But whenever I remembered what he told me. I couldn't find the strength to tell my best friend.

I was about to enter the classroom when I got his text. He demanded that I must meet him in half an hour in this cafe or else I have to suffer the consequences.

Entering the cafe, my eyes searched for a familiar face. He was sitting beside the glass Window with a mug in front of him. I rushed towards him. "I told you I couldn't meet today, you.  . . ." I yelled at him.
