Chapter Forty four
Soha's point of view :
Someone knocked on the bedroom door three times as I was walking out of the bathroom. I tied the bathrobe tightly around my waist.
"Come in."
Khala came in with a huge grin on her lips.
"What made you smile so brightly early in the morning?" I mused.
"I'm smiling because I'm happy." Khala replied, taking the hair dryer from my hand. I smiled and let her do it.
"And why's that?" I asked as I applied some moisturising lotion on my hands.
"You're bringing a guy over for the first time. That's-"
"Whoah! No need to get excited about it. It's not like I'm bringing my boyfriend over or anything."
Even though I was telling herself to tone her excitement down. I knew that I was quite lucky to have them as my family. Most of the Bengali people aren't keen on meeting their daughter's guy friends or inviting them home. My parents were pretty laid back and easy going.
"You should see how excited your father is." I rolled my eyes at her while she smiled.
Rahat's point of view :
I got ready an hour early and waited for Soha at the lobby. She came to pick me up at nine just like she said last night. We ate breakfast at a nearby restaurant. As we had more than four hours to spend before lunch, Soha asked me if I wanted to go to an amusement park. In her opinion, it was the nearest place from the hotel that we could go to before going to her house.
Soha also told me that she used to go to the park with her ammu when she was young. So, I thought it'd be nice to see the place where she had soo many memories.
********************
We went in once we paid for the tickets. As it was the weekend, it was quite crowded. Many people were coming in and out of the gate. I grabbed Soha's hand and pulled her to my side. She seemed a bit surprised by the sudden force but didn't let go of my hand.
After wandering around for ten or so minutes, Soha pointed at the ferris wheel.
"No." I shook my head, trying to let go of her and walk away. But she held my arm tightly.
"Why not?"
"I don't like it."
"You're afraid of ferris wheel, aren't you?"
"No." I avoided her gaze.
"Oh my god! You are!" Soha gasped before letting out a giggle.
"Shut up. It's not funny." I pretended to be annoyed but ended up chuckling.
"I went to the carnival with two of my classmates. Both of them puked when we rode the ferris wheel together." I grimaced as I explained the reason behind my fear. But it seemed like my sob story didn't touch her heart at all. Soha kept laughing as she grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the ferris wheel.
"Then we should replace the memory with a happy one."
**********************
We had a hell lot of fun at the park. Three hours seemed like three minutes. Soha suggested that we leave if we wanted to reach her home on time, so we did. After forty or so minutes drive, she announced that we'd be there in ten.
It was my first time meeting her family. Even though it wasn't like I was meeting my girlfriend's family, I got nervous for some unknown reason. I started tapping my fingers on my legs as a way of dealing with nervousness.
"Is there anything that I should know about before meeting them? Like do's and don'ts?" I asked her, thinking that I should prepare myself beforehand. Soha looked at me briefly before turning her gaze to the street ahead of us.
"My family tends to get a little nosy if they like someone. So, don't answer anything that you're not comfortable sharing with."
Note to self: Just dodge the question without being awkward.
A few minutes later, we arrived in front of an automatic iron driveway gate. Soha drove us through the gate. The property was wired with surveillance cameras. Glimpses of the estate could be seen through trees lining the long driveway. We passed the fountains and stopped at the front door.
"Welcome to my humble abode." Soha smiled as she unfastened her seatbelt. I took the small gift that I left in the backseat earlier before we got out of the car. A guy in his twenties came rushing towards us.
"Thanks Shafiq." Soha handed over the keys to that guy. I looked at the house in front of me. The exterior was a mixture of modern and traditional architecture. It was an enormous two storey house with double doors and floor to ceiling glass windows.
"As you've noticed, we're far from the city. I wanted to live in less crowded place, so I moved here when I was nineteen. My family moved here the very next month saying that they couldn't live without me." Soha explained as we neared the front entrance.
As we stood at the foyer, I saw a gold and white staircase in front of me, a piano next to the stairs, and a huge chandelier hanging from the ceiling above the piano.
A woman came out of the door left to us. Soha talked to her in bengali. When she said something about guest, I knew she was talking about me. Soha led me to the living room.
"Make yourself comfortable. I'll go and tell them that you're here." Soha left. I looked around as I was already seated. The room was huge with white and gray walls. There were three large white sofas forming a u shape with a rather low table in front of them. There was a 64" tv on the opposite wall. The furnitures were posh and classy.
"You must be Rahat." A sudden voice startled me. I looked at the door, and saw a beautiful woman standing there. I stood immediately.
That must be her khala. I thought to myself.
"Good at noon, ma'am." I greeted her with a smile. The woman in her mid forties walked towards me elegantly.
"Hello dear, I'm Soha's khala, Zeba Haider. Nice to meet you." She returned my smile with one of her own.
"Pleasure is all mine. You've a lovely home, Mrs. Haider. These her for you." I gave her the flowers that I brought with me earlier.
"Oh my! Thank you so much dear!"
Soha walked into the room. Following her came a middle aged man, a boy in his late teenage years, an adorable little girl and Mahzabin.
"Guys, this is Rahat." Soha stood beside me. I looked at them one by one, and found them smiling at me. That made me a lot more comfortable than I was a few seconds ago.
"And Rahat, that's my father, my brother Mihad, my sister Zaima, and you already know Mahi." I nodded at every one of them.
"Hello Mr. Haider, nice to meet you." I looked at him straight as I expanded a hand. Soha's father was a tall man, with brown complexion and some gray hairs. He took my hand and gave it a firm shake. "Glad to meet you, young man."
I looked at Mihad. He was a nice looking teen, had a muscular body but not as built as me. He also had almost the same height as me, maybe a few inches shorter.
"Hey man. My sister talks a lot about you." He did the handshake that kids do these days.
"No, I don't!" Soha scoffed, earning a few chuckles.
As soon as I looked at the youngest one. She hid herself behind Mahzabin.
"Hi princess." I said, looking at the way she was. The cute little girl stuck her head out from her place.
"How did you know that I'm a princess?" She spoke English fluently as the rest of them.
"Someone told me that a very cute little princess lives here. So, I knew it was you." She giggled just before coming out from her hiding.
"Soha's grandma isn't here yet. You'll get to meet her at the lunch." Mrs. Haider said with a half hearted smile. "Why don't you show him around? I'll call you guys when lunch is ready." Khala looked at all of us. Soha's parents left the room with their youngest child.
"You guys go ahead. Mihad and I have some work to do." Mahi said, looking at us.
"Let's go." Soha said as she headed to the door. I nodded at both of them and followed her.
***************************
Soha showed me the study, game room, gym. All of the bedrooms were upstairs. She told me which one was whose room. Even Mahi had a separate room in this house. Then she asked if I'd like to see her bedroom. So, we went into her room.
I had seen this room many times through the laptop screen. It felt like I'd been there before. Now that I was standing here myself, I realised how big it was. I even recognised the couch that she sat on while skyping me.
"Should we go downstairs?" I asked Soha.
"Sure." We walked out of her room. A woman who I assumed was a maid was standing outside awkwardly. They again talked about something which sounded gibberish to me. I could only make out the word lunch.
"Khala is calling us for lunch. Let's go." Soha cleared up my confusion. Zaima came out of her room too. She halted as she saw me looking at her.
"Hello princess." I said with an English accent and bowed to her.
"Your friend is funny." Zaima told her older sister as she glanced at me shyly.
"I know right." Soha smirked while grabbing her sister's hand. Both of them walked ahead of me without sparing me a second glance.
" Why do you guys think my voice is funny? It's not my fault that my voice is like that." I faked a sob.
"Who's this young man?" An elderly woman asked, standing in front of us.
A/n: Hey cuties, how have you been? It's been so long. I'm really really really sorry. I made you guys wait that long. To tell you the truth, one of my bestest friends in wattpad disappeared suddenly. It's been more than a month, but I still can't overcome the shock. She meant so much to me. It feels like I lost my sister. She used to motivate me, help me in every way possible.
I just miss her so much!
