Chapter Forty eight
Rahat's point of view :
Soha stopped fidgeting as I got closer to her. Trying to grab the picture from her, I didn't even notice when I started leaning towards her. We were so close to each other that we breathed in each other's air. I looked at her face, glowing with the orange rays of the setting sun. Watching her face brought a new sensation inside me.
I looked at her eyes, searching for any signs of discomfort or annoyance at our close proximity. But I found none, other than eyes full of curiosity and. . . maybe untold emotions. Soha looked at me as she bit her lower lip. I glanced at her plump pink lips. My heart burned with a desire to taste them.
Soha followed my gaze, looking at my lips and then straight in my eyes. I licked my lips, trying to get a hold on my desire. But my patience was wearing thin. I leaned in again as I put my hands on either side of her face. I pressed my lips against hers in a gentle kiss.
Her lips tasted like strawberries. Maybe because we had fruit truffles as dessert at lunch. Soha didn't move at all. I could feel her heavy breaths on my face.
Am I forcing her into the kiss?
I felt like a complete idiot. I didn't know whether she wanted to kiss me or not. I just listened to my heart, not thinking about her at all. As much as I feared rejection, I didn't want to kiss her forcefully.
Just when I went to pull myself away, she grabbed the back of my head. I opened my eyes to confirm if I was imagining stuff in my head. And I found her eyes closed, mouth slightly parted as if waiting to be kissed again. I put a strand of her hair behind the ear as I mentally cooed at her cuteness.
Soha looked at me with half lidded eyes as if inquiring the reason why I was taking time to kiss her again.
Even though we were sitting on a couch at the porch, she wasn't the same height as me. Soha's head tilted upwards in a urge to meet my lips. Now that I had tasted her lips once, I couldn't stay away from them. Cupping her face in my palms once again, I smashed my lips onto her smooth, pink ones in a haste.
I sucked and nibbled on her lower lip with all the gentleness I could muster. But things got faster after a few moments as Soha started responding with the same amount of enthusiasm. A fire ignited inside me as our lips moved in sync. As I tasted her, I realised that I'd kissed before. But it didn't feel like this. Those kisses didn't make me feel euphoric, electric and alive.
"Ma'am, your te-" a small voice came from the door behind us. But I was too lost in the moment to care.
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry!"
Snapping out of the hypnotic trance, we broke away from each other. A girl in her late teenage years, stood at the door holding a tray of tea and cookies.
I glanced at Soha expecting her to say something. Her cheeks tinged red as she lowered her gaze. The way she blushed was amusing yet so sweet.
The maid left without a word as soon as she put the tray on the coffee table in front of us.
"Well. . ." I tried to not make the situation awkward for any of us. But I forgot what I was gonna say as I saw her frowning.
"You regret it, don't you?"
"Wha-?"
"You regret the kiss." Soha said, before I could comprehend what she was on about.
"No. Not at all. Actually, I've been wanting to do that for a while." I replied with a smile.
"Okay." Soha nodded.
"Yeah."
Silence fell upon us for a moment as we stay seated next to each other.
"Do you regret it?" It was my turn to ask her. I needed to know if we were on the same page.
"I wouldn't have kissed you back the second time, if I regretted the first one." The corners of her mouth twitched upwards in a smile.
"That's true." I sighed in relief.
Soha took a sip of her tea. She used both of her hands to hold the cup. I looked at her as she puckered her lips a little to blow on the hot tea and take a sip again. It hadn't been ten minutes, and I was craving to touch those lips again. I shook off the thought as Soha turned to me.
"Why are you not drinking? You don't like the taste?" She asked, gesturing to the cup.
I like the taste of your lips better.
"It's alright." I said instead of what I thought in my head. "I'm a coffee person, so I don't usually drink tea."

My cellphone rang just when I was coming out of the guest house. I swiped my finger on the screen.
"Hello Rahma."
"Hey bro." A familiar voice replied. I thought I didn't read the caller's name right, so I looked at it again. It said - Rahma. But I had no idea why she sounded like Shujaat.
"Shujaat?" I asked, confused with the situation.
"The one and only."
"You're in India? When? How-"
I was truly surprised.
"Well, as I told you earlier, I went home. But I wasn't welcomed. Then I remembered how you wanted me to come with you. So, here I am." Shujaat said as I walked towards Soha's car. She was waiting for me, leaning on the car.
"But I'm not home right now." I told him even though he already knew it. Soha looked at me briefly before she got into the car. I took the passenger seat.
"It's Shujaat. He's in India right now." I whispered to Soha. She just nodded in reply.
"When are you coming back to India?"
"In three days." I answered.
I missed my family. But there was something that made me feel uneasy when I thought about going away from her. We were going to be more than a thousand miles away from each other.
"What am I gonna do those three days?" Shujaat seemed upset.
Soha touched my arm to make me look at her.
"Tell him to come here." She said in a hushed tone. "Tell him to come to Bangladesh. He'll get the visa on arrival."

Soha's point of view :
"Someone looks happy."
Mahzabin nudged me on the ribs as she laid beside me. I was on my bed, waiting for Rahat to be online. Yes, we still chatted even though we came home together half an hour ago. Mahzabin had to come and burst my bubble of thoughts.
"It's not a crime to be happy." I replied, not giving in to her sly remarks.
"It is when you smile secretly and then try to cover it with a frown."
"Go away." I threw a pillow on her.
"So. . . What did you guys do all day?"
Kissed. Twice.
"Nothing much." I replied, trying to keep a straight face.
"Really? But that's not what I heard from them." Mahi said as she looked at her nails. "Forget it. Do you think I should change the colour of my nail polish?"
I was panicking inside. I remembered how Roma found us in the backyard.
Did she tell it to the whole family or what?
"What did you hear? Who told you?" I narrowed my eyes at her.
"A birdie came to me."
"Stop joking." I sat up, my shoulder tensed as I saw my suspicion turning true.
"Roma told you, didn't she?" I asked being almost sure of it.
"Yes. . ." Mahi smirked.
"Okay, so what if we kissed. We're both consenting adults. We can do whatever we want." I blabbered.
"YOU KISSED???!!!" Mahi shrieked as she jumped out of the bed.
"Yes. . . I thought you already knew?" I was confused.
"How the hell would I know?"
"Well, you said Roma-" Then I remembered how she used to trick me into Confessing stuff just like this. Mahi used to tell me that she knew something about me. And being unable to recognise her white lie, I used to tell her everything.
"Tell me everything right now!" Mahi snatched the cellphone away from me and tossed it on the nightstand.
**********************
"Oh my god!" Mahi giggled. "I didn't know you'd do something like that."
Even I didn't think I'd do something like that. I didn't know I'd wrap my hands around his neck and grab his hair to make him stop pulling away. I didn't want the kiss to stop so soon.
Rahat smiled as he pressed those lips to mine, pulling me closer. He held me in his arms so tightly as if he never wanted to let me go. Our bodies were so close to each other that I could feel his heart beat just as fast as mine.
"Aye hye, you're blushing. You're thinking of kissing him again, aren't you?" Mahi asked, raising one of her eyebrows.
"Shut up."
