he was born in peckham, london, england to parents abigail and samson whom are both nigerian. john also has two sisters by the name of grace and blessing boyega.

growing up: john grew up in a very violent council estate in peckham. he was said to have had a difficult childhood in the past from when he lived in peckham. he was close to both damilola taylor and samuel ogunro until their deaths [damilola passed away in '00 while samuel's death took place in '10.] he joined the theatre, spending his time there outside school hours between the ages of nine and fourteen. his father, a preacher, wanted his son, john, to follow in his footsteps but was supportive of his son's theatrical interests. it has also been said that acting kept him out of trouble, a close friend even stated that "a lot of boys in his year are now in prison or dead."
