Chapter 8
Her nightmares varied, never having a factor to depend on. It didn't matter whether or not she was in a good or bad mood or if she tried to dream her way out of it. She either had a nightmare or nothing. Most of the time, almost all the time as far as she could remember, they were nightmares. Sometimes, it was watching the genocide run. This nightmare, however, was different but she's had it before.
Kaya was standing in a corridor of shadows and darkness with a bright path underneath her feet. She couldn't tell where it led. All of a sudden, before she could take a step, the ground dropped below her and she was falling, the breath taken out of her now non-existent lungs. Her magical eye flared up as she tried to slow her fall and light up the area around her, but it's light did nothing to deter the darkness, which seemed to be slowly suffocating her. Out in the darkness, she heard the sound of a knife being drawn. She could tell it wasn't something like a sword because the sound didn't last long. Kaya looked wildly around her, rightening herself after getting used to the falling, and ducked just in time from the flying, red projectile. There was no sound of the knife striking against anything. That proved that there was nothing solid in this dark void except herself, the knives, and her attacker.
Many more knives flew past Kaya, some missing her completely, others she had to dodge, and a few that struck through the edges of her clothes. She couldn't find out where her attacker was attacking from; the knives were being thrown from all directions. She threw her arms up to protect her face, and she reluctantly put them down, not hearing anything whiz by after many moments. Too late, she tried to dodge and a late projectile came flying toward her and went flying into her left eye socket.
Kaya woke up, gasping for air, feeling as though she had crashed onto her bed, and felt around the eye socket. Nothing felt out of place, no cracks, just a throbbing pain around the area. She tried to calm herself, but jumped a minute later when her alarm went off.
"Oh... right" she muttered to herself and sighed, still trying to catch her breath. "Time for another amazing day." She shook her head, trying to rid the nightmare from her mind, and got out of bed.
