Chapter 7

"I'll meet you guys at school," Kaya said after a moment. She watched as her magical abilities took effect and blurred the landscape around her, smoothly replacing it with the school grounds. She teleported once again and appeared in the bathroom and changed into her newer set of normal clothes, having grabbed the bag with her clothes before she teleported back. She came out and used her powers to teleport the bag to her room back home. She checked the time and went to her sixth period class. She trusted her dad to know where she was.

She walked into her SOUL's Studies class. No matter what grade a person may be in, there was always something to learn in that class. Kaya's teachers expected her, so that meant Sans had come and dropped the others off. She went to her seat and sat down, not looking at anyone. Mr. Vang, since he was a monster and knew a lot about SOULs, proceeded and led the class. Mr. Wong just slacked off and occasionally looked up to see if a student was misbehaving.

"Alright class, can anyone tell me the reason for a SOUL's color?" Mr. Vang asked.

"It shows that person's most dominant trait," one student said.

"Good. Can someone else tell me the seven most common traits?"

"KINDNESS, PATIENCE, INTEGRITY, BRAVERY, JUSTICE, and DETERMINATION," another student replied.

"Very good. Now, what color are they represented by? Kaya? Would you mind answering that?"

"Uh, yeah," she responded. "Green represents KINDNESS; Light blue represents PATIENCE; Blue represents INTEGRITY; Orange represents BRAVERY; Yellow represents JUSTICE; Red represents DETERMINATION."

For some reason, she wasn't suppose to either know what all of the colors were, or she wasn't suppose to say it in perfect order with the previous student's answer, for the teachers gaped at her. The whole class was silent. Kaya ducked her head and raised her shoulders, trying to disappear from view without teleporting out of her uncomfortable situation. Literally every eye in the classroom was on her.

She spent the rest of the period with her head on the table, taking in what the teachers were doing, but refusing to participate or look at anyone. Or look up for that matter. By the time the bell rang, marking the end of the day, she had nearly dozed off, but she shot her head up once it sounded, slightly dazed. She rose from her seat and was actually the first one out of the room, teleporting to her advisory, getting her things, and teleporting outside, waiting for other students to come out. Kaya slipped in behind a group of girls heading toward their bus, and detached from them to head for her own bus shortly afterward. She climbed on, nearly tripping from someone's purposefully extended foot as she went to her seat. She slouched down heavily, her knees against the back of the seat in fron of her, setting her things beside her. She stared out the window and became deep in thought, only being brought back to reality when a voice said:

"Excuse me? Can I sit here?"

Kaya darted her head to the left, surprised that she would be so kindly talked to by another student. She saw a girl with purple streaks dyed in her hair standing in the aisle, hoping for Kaya to move her things.

"Um, yeah. Sure," she replied coolly and put her things on the floor.

"Thanks," the girl replied. "So, what's-"

"How long will you be here?" Kaya interrupted, her eyes dark, having not yet changed back into her human form. Knowing that sooner or later every student will see her as a monster and either threat or tease her has sort of twisted her to be numb, rude, and unsympathetic.

"Oh! Well, I just moved in the area, so I'm guessing that I'll be here for a long time," she said brightly, not noticing the rudeness in Kaya's voice. When she didn't reply, the other girl started her previous question again. "So, what's your name?"

"Kaya."

"That's an interesting name."

"How?"

"Well, by the sound of your name, it seems pretty close to Kayla, Layla, or Laya."

"Alright, well, don't go messing up my name simply because it sounds like another." Dammit Kaya! she scolded herself.

"Wait, so you want to be friends?"

"Heh, all depends on what you see in me."

"What do you mean?" The girl asked. Kaya didn't have time to explain, even in as little detail as possible, because the girl stood and got off the bus. The bus had been moving during their conversation, and the other girl's stop was quite early during the trip around.

That girl's strange, she thought. But, why didn't anyone say anything about me to her? How does she not know the giant incident I caused, in the only area and time where all students are present? Was she only here for the very last part of school? If so, surely there would've been gossip about it. And if not, then she most definitely would've known something bad about me. So, why did she act so friendly towards me? I don't deserve it.

This thought process stayed with her, even she got off the bus, met up with Cypress, who luckily didn't have Jenny with him, and entered their house.

"How was school?" came their mom's voice from the kitchen. She had to shout over the sound of running water. By the sound of it, she was washing the dishes. "Or at least, the rest of it."

"I thought it fine, but Kaya's been speechless since we met up and won't tell me anything," Cypress answered.

"an' why's that?" Sans asked behind them. This truly brought Kaya out of her mind.

He must've just come home, she thought as she set her things by the couch and flopped onto it. "It's nothing. Nothing unusual."

"Speaking of 'nothing unusual', Kaya, could you come into the kitchen?"

Now I'm in trouble. "Sure." She stood up and went into the kitchen, leaning against the wall and saw her father come in the kitchen as well and stand next to her mother. For sure I'm in trouble, she thought. She heard a door close and guessed that Cypress had gone into his room.

"I've told your father about what you said out on the deck," Frisk said, finishing the dishes and turning around to face her daughter. At their feet, their dog, Toby, ran around in eager circles. He originally was owned by both Sans and Papyrus, but when they each went to live their lives, Papyrus took Sprinkles, their pet rock, and Sans took Toby without objection, knowing his brother wasn't all that fond of the pup unlike him. "And he told me about what happened in the principal's office. What we need to know is what exactly happened in the school cafeteria."

"Just all that you heard me say back on the deck piling up on me and...uh...just suddenly finding Jenny with Cypress kind of bothered me as well." Too late, she remembered she promised not to tell their parents. She smacked her forehead, feeling stupid for forgetting that. Too late now.

"'finding jenny with cypress'?!" Sans repeated, his eye instantly blazing.

"Um, well, I guess more like 'Cypress towing Jenny through the crowd behind him while holding hands'," she said quickly.

"Well, that gives...a little more insight on the situation," Frisk said. She looked to her right where Sans was suppose to be, but he was already gone. "Oh boy," they both said.

What ended up happening is a little talk between father and son, and a little arguing between brother and sister during dinner time. Frisk and Sans got ready for the party, and Kaya and Cypress didn't; the party was for adults only after all. When they were ready, that was when Kaya realized that was one of the few times she saw her mother and father dressed up formally together.

"Now, stay home, no parties..." They both listened to their mother rant on about the usual rules if they were to ever be left alone at the house.

"i think they understood it the first time ya ever said it to 'em, frisk," Sans remarked. "'sides, impact said he might be over to watch 'em, so no worries."

Frisk sighed. "Alright, we're off. See you both tomorrow." With that they both exited the house and the children heard the familiar sound of teleportation.

After that, they were both bored so they retreated to their rooms. In her room, Kaya sat on her bed, messing around with bone attacks, sensing that same feeling of being watched she always gets when she's 'practicing' her attacks. She eventually dozed off, and, as usual, she had a nightmare.
