Chapter 28

We are from a completely different dimension, Lune started. Not something like Underfell or Underswap. Those are different universes. The dimension we are from is filled with wolves like us, and the land hasn't been tainted by humans.

Most don't even know what a human is, Lyra added.

The land was plentiful with vegetation and game. However, the land was divided among certain packs based on their pelt color. The two dominating were those with white or pale gray fur, and those with dark gray or black fur. Their packs were known as the Light Pack, and the Shadow Pack.

For thousands of years, the two packs have been at war with each other, taking over other territories in their wake, Lyra continued. They held fast onto their beliefs, so they couldn't see past all the hate and determination on the battlefield and see the hurt and love and sadness hidden deep in their eyes. Me and Lune were the only two who could see past all the hatred. To recognize our similarities, and see that they are just as kind as our own. It was more like a feud than a war. The hatred ran deep in our families, and we both knew trying to convince our parents to talk things out would be a waste of time and effort, seeing how they were the Alphas and we were their children. We were good friends as pups, accidently bumping into each other on the edge of one of the many battles. My mother caught us, and she scared Lune off to his own pack, but that didn't stop us from being able to see each other. We saw each other every week, simply because that was how many times our packs would clash against each other. Any more was a treat, although we knew the casualties were just going to be more.

We managed to pull off our little charade until many years later. We had fallen in love with each other. And we weren't doing anything that day except playing chase over by the river. I caught her and we both tumbled into the shallows, laughing our heads off and having a wonderful time together. Not even a second later we heard a voice up on the banks.

"What do you think you're doing?!"

We both quickly tried to look as though it was nothing, that we only just saw each other, but seeing the other try to pretend was hard. I was the first to let out a laugh and Lyra quickly joined in, but of course the moment was cut short when we remembered that both of the Alphas from both packs were standing on the riverbank.

Needless to say, things turned ugly. My father, having the shortest temper, leapt at Lune, who's father leapt at my mother, and it just escalated from there. We were caught in the thicket of the fighting. I thought we were going to somehow break it up and make our parents reason, but Lune's mother came up behind me and attacked.

By the time I saw it, Lyra was on the ground, gasping for air while my mother stood triumphant above her. I shouted at the top of my lungs and ran over and shoved my mother to the ground. I quickly turned my attention back to my mate, but she was already on the verge of death. I hurried to her side, ignoring everyone around me. That's when I heard her whisper-

"May I have your permission to meet in the next life." I still can't believe that I managed to convince you to say yes to something like that, let alone being able to kill you.

I said, "Yes. Anything to be able to see you again." With that I felt a pain in my chest, and my strength left me. My love had killed me, but I smiled, glad to know we would meet soon, and died on top of her, seconds after she herself died. We know nothing about the conditions of our home after we died, whether or not our two packs were still fighting.

But I wouldn't give up anything to return there. I must admit that I have grown to like this world, and the people that live here.

So have I, and as long as I have you, I would never try to go back either.

"Awww," all the girls went, making both of the wolves flustered.

Well, if you don't mind me, Lyra said, trying to hide her embarrassment. I'll be out taking a walk.

I'll join you, Lune said quickly.

"How come you only decide until now to leave my side and take a walk?" Kaya and Mickeal said simultaneously.

The guardians glanced at each other before Lyra replied, We were both uncertain about this world, even after all these years, and wouldn't rest until our host found someone else to rely on. Now, goodnight to the both of you.

"Night!" everyone said.

"So," the dj said, leaning closer to the center of the table. "Does that mean you two are getting together?" he asked, pointing his finger at Kaya and Mickeal.

"U-um..." Kaya said, her face purple, and looked away.

"Uh, well... I mean, if you want to," Mickeal said, directing his attention to her. "I was actually going to ask you to, uh, be my girlfriend anyways."

Kaya felt herself blush even more, then quickly made her decision. She faced Mickeal and kissed him on the lips, her eyes closed. She could feel him jerk back slightly from surprise, but right afterwards he returned it.

"Ooh, Kaya with the smoothness," Skyla said as the two stopped, needing air. Kaya felt herself smile one of those silly, giant smiles that people usually have a hard time getting rid of.

"You two look so adorable together!" Jenny exclaimed.

"I totes agree," the dj said, pulling in his own girlfriend for a hug.

"Ahem," a voice said behind Kaya.

Oh, shit, she thought. Why must he be here now?

Kaya, Lyra said. What did you do?

Nothing I swear!

"Yes, Grandpa Gaster?" she asked, turning towards him. "U-um, how much did you hear?"

"Oh, I've been here the whole time," he responded, a small, soft smile on his skull.

"Promise you won't tell Mom or Dad about this?"

"Depends, now come."

"Fine," she said, reluctantly getting out of her chair. She quickly gave her boyfriend a kiss on his cheek and followed Gaster across the room. "So, are you here to take me home or to give me another pill."

"Neither. I'm just warning you that a couple people will be here within the minute."

"A couple... wait, Mom and Dad?! Why would they be here?"

"You haven't answered their texts."

Kaya was speechless for a moment, turning into her skeletal form. Her eye sockets went dark as she realized why.

"I forgot to unmute my phone."

"glad to know it wasn't something else," her father said behind her.

"Can people just stop creeping up behind me?"

"nah. we met your new boyfriend. he's pretty suited."

"So you brought Mom with ya?"

"we were both worried down to our bones. how could i not?"

"I'm sorry. For making you both worried."

"eh, no bones about it, kiddo. hey, where'd that little accent of yours go?"

"I don't know, maybe I outgrew it." Kaya glanced back over to the table, her eyes settling on her mother and her boyfriend. "So why aren't you being the typical protective father?"

"i promised your mother not to be if he was one of those good, unbiased people. he fits the description, so there's no need for me to protective. now, seeing that you're okay, we'll get out of your hair."

Kaya hugged Sans before he could go anywhere. "Thank you, Dad," she said. "For helping me through everything my whole life."

"no probs, lilac," he replied, hugging back. "now go hang out with your boyfriend."

She nodded and let go before teleporting over to the others and giving Mickeal a hug.

"Your parents are pretty cool," he said.

"Yeah they are," she replied. She watched as Gaster and Sans made their way to Frisk and teleport home.

"We all should be getting home as well," Jenny said. "I'm sure we've stayed longer than we should have."

"Mettaton can drop all of us off at our houses," Cypress said. "I'm sure I'll be accused of something for being in the human section since these segregation laws are now set in place."

"And because of those stupid laws, I'm not allowed to go to school anymore," Kaya said, a frown on her face. Her tail lashed the floor a couple times, the sound echoing in the almost empty gym.

"We'll work our way around it," her boyfriend said as everyone started going out the door. "As long as no one recognizes you, we can still hang out in the human section."

"Yeah. So will the teachers be cleaning all this up?"

"We could help, and we probably should, but yes. It's still Thanksgiving break."

"Or I can save them all from doing anything by using my magic."

"Funny how we're having a debate over something so small." His voice got soft and quiet on the last part, so she looked over to him and saw that she was running her tail slowly along his jaw. He was blushing so hard. She quickly drew it away and stood up straight, her face turning purple.

"I-I'm sorry. I d-didn't realize I was-"

"Oh, no," he responded, getting up from his seat. "It's fine." He grabbed hold of her shoulders and said with a smile, "Just means I'll have to get you back."

They kissed and Mickeal moved her back to the table, lifting her up so she could sit on it. They stopped for air and that's when he got his payback. He placed soft kisses on her neck, making her gasp in surprise and then moan with content. Her body changed from human to skeletal every other second, completely out of control. He stopped then and moved his head back so they could stare into each other's eyes.

"We... should get out of here before a teacher sees us," Kaya said, hating that they had to stop, .

Things are going so fast, she thought. I don't really care, but we just became boyfriend and girlfriend not even an hour ago, and we're already making out.

"Yeah," Mickeal replied, sadness evident in his voice. "Too bad we won't be seeing each other as often as before. Want to walk with me to the dorms?"

"Yes," she replied almost instantly. Her boyfriend stepped back so she could stand. They linked arms and headed out of the gym.

Mickeal's room was like any of the others Kaya had seen when the school had offered her a place in the dorms that was closer to the school than her home. The only thing different was the uniqueness. Every room was styled by the student, and they made it so their room spoke their personality. Or two personalities, if the student had a roommate. His room was filled with books on human and monster pasts and newspapers. Over on his desk was papers from his studies and a picture.

She went over and picked it up while Mickeal closed the door and went to sit on his bed. It was a picture of him, his family, and his friends. He had specifically labelled each person: Jeffrey - friend - knows
Debora - mother - doesn't know
Cypress - best friend - knows
Kaya - crush - doesn't know

"You know," she said, setting the picture back down. "You've got to update that picture now."

"I'll get to it later," he replied. "You should be getting home now."

"Yeah. Can I stay over tomorrow?" she asked after a moment of silence.

"Stay for the night?" he questioned back, as though to make sure he understood her question.

She nodded, sitting down next to him on the bed.

"Yeah, I would love that."

"So, quick question," she said after a short laugh. "Why do you call Lune a demon?"

"Well, that's the way he acts when I let him roam around others. Sure, he helps me with some things but that doesn't excuse his actions."

"Guess I should've expected that answer. He was part of the Shadow Pack before they were reborn in our world. Lyra may be from the Light Pack, but I think she's too salty to be part of such a kind sounding pack."

I heard that! Lyra growled in her head. Kaya just laughed. Besides, if the Light Pack was as kind as it sounded, then there wouldn't have been a feud in the first place. The Shadow Pack would've dominated the whole place.

Guess I didn't think of that. But light isn't just kindness, you know. It also represents justice and purity.

Yeah, yeah. Just get home so your parents don't get worried. Also, sorry for the uh... burst of romance earlier.

What do you mean 'burst of romance'?

Lune and I may have gotten a little... playful. And since emotions run strongly throughout both the host and the guardian... things tend to get...

...Well, don't worry. Everything's fine, and I'll be heading home now.

"I gotta go," Kaya said. "Lyra's buggin' me to."

"Alright," Mickeal said. "I'll see you tomorrow, then."

She smiled and gave him a quick kiss before teleporting home. She sighed happily and went inside.

Everything's going to get better. I just know it.
