Ezra's Video Journal
AN: Hello everyone! So this is my second fanfiction story, I still have absolutely no clue what I'm doing ;P Please note that I know nothing about Star Wars, tell me if something's wrong! Basically Ezra has a video journal and the rest of the crew finds it and watches it. This also includes my OC Emma! Read: Ezra's Friend to see who she is! Disclaimer: I own nothing!
3rd person P.O.V
Ezra had just left to check our supplies, the rest of the crew decided to look through his things.
"Hey look at this! The kid keeps a video journal on that data pad of his," Zeb called, "Wanna watch it?"
"I don't know," Hera hesitated, "We would invading his privacy."
"Oh come on, don't be a killjoy!" Sabine plucked the data pad out of Zeb's hand, "Don't you wanna watch it? Kanan, Emma, Eric, Erin, anyone?"
Kanan hesitated, "Well..."
Eric tried to stop them, "I really don't think that-"
"Perfect, let's watch it!" Sabine ignored Eric and pressed play on the one farthest back.
A younger Ezra popped into view,
"Hello, my name's Ezra! I'm 7 years old, this is the first time I'm doing one of these." Ezra puffed out his cheeks,
"Awww...He's adorable!" Hera squealed
"Mommy and Daddy left yesterday, they said they were coming back soon. They didn't seem so sure but I trust them! They'll come back! Right?" His face displayed doubt
"I'm not sure what else to say really, my life is kinda boring right now, and I miss mommy and daddy! I'm gonna have lunch...Bye!" Ezra grinned and turned of the video
"Well that was..." Kanan didn't know what to say.
"Short? Vague?" Emma suggested
"Pretty much."
Zeb played the next one.
"Hey. It's been 3 months since I last did this, mom and dad never came back, the Imperials ransacked our house, I've been living on the streets ever since. I made some friends out here, they're taking care of me and giving food and place to sleep and everything!" Ezra gave a small smile.
"Friends? Wasn't he alone when we met him?" Sabine asked
"Ahem..." The three kids coughed and glared at the crew.
"I miss my parents, I don't what happened to them or anything, I wish I did!"
There was a yell from off screen, Ezra turned his head and looked back, "That's one of my friends, it's dinner time, bye!"
"I thought the kid was alone?" Zeb looked confused.
Erin threw her hands up exasperatedly as Eric and Emma shook their heads, Bantha Heads.
"Maybe the next video will answer," Hera hit play.
"So it has been about 2 years since I did this, my so called friends betrayed me 4 months after we met, well, not everyone," Ezra tilted his head, "I learned a few rules since then:
Rule Number 1: Trust no one because trust leads to betrayal,"
The crew winced a little, while Emma nodded
"Rule Number 2: People don't care about you and you don't care about them, if you're captured you get yourself out, don't count on others to help you,"
The crews wince deepened, Eric nodded this time.
"Rule Number 3: Always carry a med pack and a weapon, you never know who's out there and the dangers you could be in,"
The crew nodded along with the three kids, seemed reasonable, even if he was way too young to learn it.
"Those are the three main rules, although there are three people I trust,
Erin smirked.
then there are other keys to survival, so far I survive by pickpocketing breaking into Imperial bases, and selling things in the black market," Ezra took a breath, "The Imperials caught me yesterday, I got acquainted with an interrogation droid, I was in and out within a day,but it still left some marks, I had to do stitches on myself without painkillers,"
The crew gaped and the three kids grimaced,
"Yeah, those are always the hardest," Erin admitted.
"Always?! You mean you've done it before?!" Hera shrieked.
"We all have," Eric shrugged like it wasn't a big deal, and to them it probably wasn't.
"You've just got to take deep breaths and block out the pain, you can't distract yourself though," Emma explained.
"Yeah, lest you accidentally stitch yourself up wrongly," Erin winced, "Learned that the hard way..."
They seemed to learn everything the hard way, thought Kanan.
Ezra gave a dry smirk, "At least its not the first time I had to do it, plus I can add that to my growing collection of scars, well I'm gonna sleep in my tower, well not my tower, its an abandoned run down tower that I now call 'Ezra's Tower!' Bye!"
"He was only ten!" Hera whimpered.
Sabine hit the next video,
"I ran into some trouble today! Met a group called the Rebels or something,"
The crew grinned
"They're making me feel stuff I haven't done in ages! I actually cared and tried to help them!" He ran a hand through his hair, "The Jedi, Kanan, gave me an option to join his crew, they gave me something I haven't felt in ages : hope and dreams, those are a luxury to me,"
The crew cringed
"A luxury I can't afford! All my life it's always been me, myself and I, those people are so different," Ezra sighed, "And I think I'm gonna join them, signin' out"
"That's both happy and sad" Kanan deadpanned
"But it is true." Emma admitted
Hera pressed play
"I'm not sure if I should stay with the crew! I mean they're nice and all, but the only ones that doesn't treat me like a nuisance are Hera and Sabine," Ezra grinned,
Zeb looked sheepish, Kanan frowned, Hera and Sabine high fived each other.
"I mean, Sabine actually asked me for my name," Ezra looked like he had a sugar rush, "And she gave me hers! No one ever cared enough to exchange names! It was always 'Thanks kid," or 'Oi! You filthy street rat, get back here, that's my loot!'" Ezra grinned.
"He forgot the part where they just start shooting without saying anything." Erin grinned.
"That's actually kinda depressing," Sabine commented
Emma shrugged in 'what can you do' way.
"Anyways I don't know what to do, I might consider staying thanks to Sabine and Hera though, bye!"
"You boys are supposed to make a good impression, Zeb I expected, but you Kanan?"Hera scolded.
Zeb looked vaguely offended while Kanan blushed sheepishly.
Sabine pressed play before Hera could start ranting,
"I decided to stay thanks to Sabine and Hera, although today is not a good day for me."Ezra frowned, "I've been feeling dizzy all day, and according to the thermometer I have a fever, Kanan's been yelling at me all day to get it together,"
Kanan winced.
"So, I took some medicine," Ezra steadied himself, "I should be right as rain by tomorrow," There was yelling of screen, Ezra gave a weak grin, "That's Kanan yelling at me to get my butt back to work, gotta run, bye!"
Everyone glared at Kanan who in turn shrank in his seat
"Hey! I'm not sick anymore! Although I haven't slept for some time, I'm getting nightmares of my past, I've been skipping lunch and dinner too, and it's getting closer to the date my parents disappeared," Ezra shook his head. "Well I gotta go, I think that's Kanan, I just hope I can last the day, I am super tired, bye!"
"Not sleeping or eating? That's gotta be bad for him! And that was taken this morning" Sabine exclaimed, she was worried for a her 'little brother'.
"I hear footsteps Ezra's coming back get rid of the evidence!" Zeb whisper yelled.
They scrambled and put everything back how it was before, the doors hissed open and Ezra walked in with a grin. Kanan looked closely at his Padawan, his fatigue was well hidden, you could barely notice it. Yet Kanan managed to spot they faintest hint of bags underneath his eyes.
"Hey guys! What's up? We are fully stocked, med packs, food, everything!" Ezra grin faltered when he noticed everyone staring at him. "What, what did I do?"
The crew was saved from answering as Chopper warbled a low tone and circled Ezra slowly, he grinned and bent down then frowned,
"You're hurt." He stated simply, "Zeb, what did you do?" He pointed an accusing finger.
"Who me? I jus' gave 'im a whack or two..." Zeb mumbled.
"Well you damaged his arms a little, come here Chopper, let's get you fixed up."Ezra knelt and fixed Chopper swiftly and skillfully.
"You still haven't told me what's up," Ezra accused
"We were just going to have a family dinner actually." Kanan cut in.
Ezra raised an eyebrow, "We never had this before, why the sudden need to have dinner all together?"
"It's a new development, I decided that if we're gonna work as a team then we should also eat together to make us closer!" Hera lied.
"We also thought it would help Emma, Eric and Erin get used to us!" Sabine pulled Eric and Erin towards her and the three kids started nodding
"Okaaay then," Ezra drawled slightly unconvinced.
"To dinner then! I dunno 'bout you, bu' I'm starvin'!" Zeb pushed them all out of the room
Just then the ship shook a little, "What was that?" Kanan asked.
"Let's go see shall we," Hera replied grimly.
They reached the control and Hera looked over them, "Everything's mostly okay, except the signal jammer is down." (AN: I'm not sure where I got this idea, if it is not mine please notify me, because I'm not a 100% sure its my idea and I don't want to steal!)
"We need someone to fix it."
"I can do it," Ezra volunteered, the crew hesitated, "Come on it's the most logical way! I'm the only one small enough to fit in that hole and I've spent years rewiring tech, I can do this!"
Eric was probably more handy with tech but he wouldn't have fit in the hole, and while Erin and Emma did know plenty about tech they knew that there was a higher chance they'd get it wrong as opposed to Ezra.
The crew realized they didn't really have a choice, "Fine, jus' be careful," Zeb sighed.
"Aww, you do care," Ezra teased, he frowned when Zeb didn't say anything but simply blushed and turned away.
The space was small and dangerous but Ezra quickly set to work. His comm crackled, "You almost done?"
"Hold on, I'm nearly done!" He replied.
Hera chuckled and the comm went off. Two wires shocked his fingers and he drew his hand, it caught in one of the sharp points that surrounded him, he yanked his hand back tearing of the sleeve, the point cutting through his arm. He looked at his arm, it wasn't too bad, he can fix it up later, the blood trickled as he continued to work.
The doors hissed open and the crew turned. Ezra stood there, his clothes covered in grime and his shirt slightly ripped. The crew quickly noticed his arm, which was bent and wrapped in a cloth that was quickly becoming red. Chopper took the controls as the crew went towards Ezra.
"What?" He asked as he noticed all of them.
"What happened to your arm?" Sabine asked.
"Nothing much," He brushed it off, but Kanan marched forward and unwrapped the bandage.
"Master! I just finished wrapping it!" Ezra whined. Kanan ignored him and pulled the arm straight and Ezra winced. The dry blood was mixed with hints of grime all over.
"You didn't clean it at all," Kanan scolded.
"As usual," Emma rolled her eyes.
"I just wrapped it to keep it from dripping all over the ship," He admitted.
"I would've done the same thing I guess," Erin sighed.
"I have done it before," Eric grimaced.
"See?" Ezra defended.
"They don't count, all of you grew up on the streets!" Sabine said.
"Hey!" They cried offended
"Tha' migh' get infected," Zeb peered over his shoulders.
"It's fine, I've had worse on the streets, and this will just be another scar to add to my collection," Ezra gave half a grin.
"Well, now we're going to the infirmary." Hera ushered them out.
"Take the shirt off, I need to reach the whole cut." Kanan said firmly. Ezra huffed but obeyed, the crew's eyes widened, his whole upper body was covered with scars. You could see some marking of previous stitches too.
"So can we get this over with?" Ezra asked impatiently. Kanan quickly cleaned the wound.
"This may need stitches," He announced.
"No problem, I've done it before with and without painkillers." Ezra gave a shrug.
"We know." Zeb rolled his eyes. Sabine kicked his shin, Ezra never told him that, the video journal did!
"Yeah... wait a minute, how do you know that? I never told you before!" His eyes narrowed, everyone glared at the Lasat.
Hera sighed, "Ezra, we may have watched your video journal."
"You did what?" Ezra asked dangerously calm.
"It was Zeb's idea!" Sabine exclaimed
"Hey!"
"He decided to watch it and then we didn't stop him and then we watched all the entries and we are so sorry for invading your privacy!"
Ezra sighed "It's okay I guess, I mean you are my team and you should this stuff."
"So you're not mad?" Zeb asked.
"Nah, I'm not mad," Ezra smirked.
"You need to sleep and eat!" Zeb told him with finality.
"Fine!" Ezra rolled his eyes.
"Also when is your birthday?" Hera asked, by now Kanan was done with the stitches and Ezra was putting on his short so Sabine answered for him,
"Empire Day."
"You knew?!" Hera shrieked.
"So did Kanan!" Sabine defended.
"Wait, why is this such a big deal?" Ezra cut in.
"Because we need to celebrate it! I can't believe you didn't tell us about your birthday!" She huffed.
"Sorry, I didn't think was important, plus I'm never really celebrated since I was 7," Ezra shrugged
"None of us have, we had more important things to worry about..." Eric explained.
"Well, now we're celebrating it, Chopper go make some cake!" Hera started.
"But it was Emma's birthday too, and Erin and Eric's two days after ours!" Ezra argued.
"Then we're having two cakes! Chopper make two cakes! One for Eric and Erin and one for Emma and Ezra," The bot warbled in response, "To the mess hall!"
The four protested the whole way, but they ignored them, after all what are families for?
AN: So whaddya think, love it, hate it? Was it too OOC? Tell me what you think!
