Kanan's pov

Me and Ezra entered the kitchen for dinner, plus we were going to tell them the news. "Hey guys it's taco Tuesday!" Hera chirped. Sabine and Zeb were already eating while Hera was serving ours. I looked at Ezra, he gave me the nod to go ahead and tell them. "So guys... Me and Ezra have an announcement to tell you guys!" Everyone paused and looked up from their plates. "I'm adopting Ezra!" No one said anything, they didn't even look surprised. I finally got the courage to ask why this was. "What?" They just stared at me like I told a bad joke. "What took you so long! I mean really, it was so clear that you were going to!" Sabine said while Zeb interrupted "Yeah.". We all laughed. It was good to know that they weren't mad for some odd reason, not that I would care. I would still adopt Ezra even if they didn't approve. We all are our tacos and talked about life. At some point of the meal I looked over at my son and saw him laughing, telling stories about what he did while he was gone, and smiling.
That's my boy. After dinner Hera sent the others to get ready for bed and pulled me aside for a talk. "Love what took you so long! It was obvious that you care about Ezra so why now? Did it really take him running away to open your eyes to the idea of adoption?" At first I didn't say anything, for starters I didn't know what to say. Eventually I decided to tell her the truth. "I was afraid that he would turn me down. That he would think that I'm trying to replace his real dad." Hera sighed. "Kanan... Ezra loves you, he knows you, and he cares about you too. He always wanted this, you just never took the chance. He knows that you're not trying to replace his old dad. He loves you." I smiled "And I love him too." "That's my Jedi Knight, now go to bed." I chuckled "Ordering me around now?" "My ship, my rules." I laughed and headed to me and Ezra's room. When I went into our room I found Ezra already asleep on his bunk. "Ezzy." I grinned, scooped him up from his bunk, and laid him down next to me. I ran my fingers through his hair and closed my eyes. Soon I was asleep.
