"SOMETIMES THE HEART SEES WHAT IS INVISIBLE TO THE EYE."
- H. JACKSON BROWN, JR.
MI-YOUNG PARK WAS INTRIGUED.
Ever since that day in the vile school cafeteria, Mi-young couldn't help but notice him.
The way his cheeks puffed up whilst nibbling on any left over rice.
The way his eyes crinkled when he smiled, wrinkling around the edges, eye bags folding over, leaving his eyes to resemble those of a panda.
The way his cute laugh resembled that of one in an American movie, where two men dressed up as women, in which Mi-young unfortunately couldn't remember the name of such a comical movie even if she tried.
I know movie but I don't know movie name.
The way he laughed at her when she tried to bring up the movie resembling his laugh.
The way his two front teeth poked out between his rosy top and bottom lip.
And the way he stared at her with such fondness and reassurance.
It was as if she was the most perfect being he has ever laid eyes on, as if she was the only one in the room that he noticed, and it was as if nothing else mattered.
~•~
It was engraved into his mind and no matter how hard he tried, he could never let go of such a mortifying, heart wrenching memory.
The way her presence made his darker days brighter with just a small smile.
The way she would skip and jump around him all giddy while they walked home from school together.
The way she would hold his hand whenever they talked about how their days went.
The way she made him feel so important whenever they were together as if he was the most perfect being she has ever laid eyes on.
Lies.
The way she would tell him about her fears and insecurities with pouting lips and dropping eyes.
The way she would say she understood how much she meant to him, but never truly understood just how much every single "I love you" he told her was oh so true.
The way she never noticed how displeased he was whenever she would talk about him.
The way her smile would grow whenever he said something to make her laugh, but would grow even wider whenever he was around.
The way her laugh sounded like those of rainbows, unicorns, and all things good and sweet that left a smile on his face and heart jumping rope to such a melody enamored of her.
The way she never truly loved him the way he loved her.
The way she felt torn between choosing the two men, tears welling up in her foggy and hazy eyes with her choice clear as day.
The way she chose him instead.
And the way she suddenly disappeared from school, the town, and his life.
It was as if something changed in her, as if leaving behind the town and all the memories was just so easy, and it was as if he, Jeon Jungkook, meant nothing to her, Lee Areum.
Lee Areum.
The girl that started it all.
The girl that left a bitter taste, an unforgivable memory, a broken friendship, and a despondent heart.
The one and only girl that drove Taehyung and Jungkook at each other's throats in a chaotic competition that Jungkook had no chance of winning.
And he didn't win.
Jungkook lost and Taehyung won.
Jungkook understood why she chose Taehyung instead.
He understood why she felt such strong love for Taehyung instead.
How could she not love Taehyung when all he ever did was make her feel as if she was the brightest star in the entire universe?
Jungkook understood why she chose Taehyung instead, because anyone would rather be with the amazingly popular and charming Taehyung than the bland and boring Jungkook.
But what Jungkook could not understand was why she had to leave so suddenly with no "goodbye" or "I'm sorry" or perhaps even one last "I love you," even if none of it was true.
Normally, Jungkook wouldn't be able to think of anything or anyone other than Areum and her ways of making him feel so heart broken and foolish.
But with Mi-young, Jungkook could forget about such a dark past.
With Mi-young, he felt like he was reliving in a simply blissful past.
A time where he felt all giddy and giggly with one simple interaction.
A time where everything was going so well and Jungkook could say he was truly happy for once.
But all Jungkook was waiting for, was the time when everything all good and sweet turned sour and bitter, just as how it did in the past.
Because Jungkook knew this was just a reliving of a past.
A past memory, a past feeling, a past moment, a past girl, and a past sad ending.
All he could hope for was not to relive that same feeling of wondering why Areum left, where she could be, and if she is okay or safe or happy wherever she is, doing whatever she is doing.
Because no one knew what actually happened to Lee Areum that day she just got up and disappeared.
But what Jungkook did know was that he really didn't care about any of it anymore.
How could he when all he could think about was Mi-young and her starry eyes?
