17. Taking Her Home
Mr LaRusso came home later that evening whilst Kai was still at Sam's house. He greeted the two of them before telling them some important news.
"Kai, do you want me to book you a ticket?" he asked the boy.
Kai cocked his eyebrow curiously, unsure of what the man meant.
"I'm going to Japan for a business meeting, it'll be near Okinawa if you wanted to go home," Mr LaRusso told him, "I'll pay for your ticket."
"There's no need Mr LaRusso to pay," Kai assured him, "but I will consider your offer."
He looked at Sam who had a heartbroken expression on her face. She took one looked at Kai before running off to her bedroom.
"I'll check on her." Kai told her father before going upstairs.
He made his way to her room and entered. Sam was crying on the bed.
"You're leaving, again." she told him plainly.
Kai made his way over and cupped her cheeks with his hands and wiped the tears from her eyes.
"Come with me," he told her, looking at her dead in the eye, "we'll go and then we'll come back. We won't go for long. I just want to show you my home."
Sam had to think for a minute. "What about everyone else and Cobra Kai?"
"Forget about them," Kai said, "it'll just be me and you."
Sam nodded and smiled at Kai. Taking the oppotunity, he moved his lips closer to hers and pressed a long kiss on her mouth. Once they parted both of them smiled.
"I missed doing that." Kai smiled at her as they kissed again, this time they rested their foreheads on each other.
"Let's go to Japan."
After clearing everything up with Daniel LaRusso who surprisingly agreed to let Sam stay with Kai for a short amount of time, the two were sitting in first class seats next to each other. Their hands were intertwined as they each prepared for their time in Okinawa.
When they had touched down, Daniel LaRusso told them that he had to head in a different way for his business meeting to try and save LaRusso Motors and that he trusted Kai to safely take Sam back to his house.
"I'll come visit you guys when I'm done." Daniel smiled at them. He wanted to relive his time in Okinawa with Mr Miyagi.
Kai took Sam's hand. "Let's go!"
They took a taxi to surprise Takeshi and Sensei Yazuko, neither knew that Kai was coming back, even if it was for a short period of time. Once the taxi had pulled up near Kai's home, he got out the taxi and helped Sam with both their suitcases.
The two of them walked towards the door and Kai knocked before stepping back, awaiting whoever was going to open the door. The door quickly opened and there revealed Takeshi, standing at the door.
"Kai!" he exclaimed happily, coming forward and engulfing Kai in a brotherly hug. "Welcome back!"
Sensei Yazuko appeared from behind Takeshi. "I see you brought her."
Kai grinned. "We fixed everything Sensei."
Kai walked in and took his shoes off before motioning for Sam to join him.
"Hey Sam." Takeshi greeted.
"Hey Takeshi." Sam replied.
Kai immediately started giving Sam a tour of the house. It wasn't as big as the Hilton's or the LaRusso's but it was incredibly cosy and it was enough for the three of them to live in.
"We don't have a guest room," Kai told Sam, "but you can stay in my room."
Sam nodded as the tour continued. Kai then took her down to the Tiger Claw Dojo, it was empty since Sensei was done with his lessons for the day. The two of them walked into the middle of the Dojo as Sam admired it. It was a very traditional Dojo with scriptures and traditional drawings scattered around the room. There was also a mirror surrounding the entire room. The colour scheme of the Dojo was plain and minimalistic but that was what Sensei Yazuko liked.
Plain and simple.
Once they had finished their tour, Kai informed Sensei Yazuko and Takeshi that he was going to show Sam around before coming back for dinner. The two of them travelled to the heart of where Kai and the Yazuko's lived. It was where Mr Miyagi and Sensei Yazuko both grew up together, Tomi Village.
The village had drastically changed since Sensei Yazuko was a child, it had become more modern and it had been sold because the villagers' crops died, the village almost died out but there was a lifeline for them. After, it had changed over time into a top tourist destination. The Tiger Claw Dojo was also one of the tourists' favourite place to go, Sensei Yazuko would offer classes for any tourist that wished to learn and he taught them but he never expected them to compete. The only students who competed as part of the Tiger Claw Dojo were Takeshi and Kai and a few others.
The two of them made their way to Tomi Village Green, which was a shopping mall and decided to look around. Kai wanted to show her the spot he and Takeshi went to so they could watch the sunset but he thought it would be best to keep it between the two of them.
Once they had toured the whole shopping complex, Kai brought Sam back to his house and they sat down and enjoyed a dinner with Takeshi and Sensei Yazuko.
"Is your father here?" Sensei asked Sam in average English.
Sam nodded. "He'll be coming here soon, he's in a meeting."
"Just to warn you guys," Kai told them, "we'll only be here for a few days before we're heading back to America."
Both Takeshi and Sensei Yazuko nodded. They weren't going to object to Kai's wishes, they knew that Kai would want to be with Sam and they weren't going to stop him, they were always going to offer him a home in Okinawa.
However much it hurt them to see Kai leave them, they would never complain.
That evening, Sensei drew a mattress for Sam to sleep on in Kai's room but the two of them didn't use it. Sam snuggled in close to Kai and even though his bed was smaller than Sam's, the two of them still fit.
The next morning, Sam woke up earlier that Kai and decided to look around his room. It was tidy for the most part, but there was a notebook there with a mixture of pages with both English and Japanese on it.
She picked up one of the pages in English and read it.
How would you feel, if I told you I loved you?
It's just something that I want to do
I'll be taking my time, spending my life
Falling deeper in love with you
So tell me that you love me too
Sam read the lyrics and the truth hit her. Malachai Hilton loved her.
And she was pretty sure she loved him back.
When Kai woke up the girl questioned him about what was in his notebook.
"It's just some songs I've written." Kai told her, yawning.
"Can you sing for me?" Sam asked.
Kai nodded and proceeded to go get the guitar in the corner of his room and began plucking some chords before singing a song.
During that whole time, Kai discovered a new talent of Sam's. Singing. It turned out that the LaRusso girl had a pretty voice.
Time flew and after meeting with Mr LaRusso to check in on everything, the two of them went to the shopping mall. Takeshi was helping Sensei Yazuko teach some classes so it was just the two of them.
Kai and Sam went shopping and Sam got some new clothes and then they got lunch together. The two of them grabbed some food from Subway before making their way to the water fountain at the centre of the mall's outdoor area.
"You've got a bit of stuff here," Kai said with a laugh, pointing at the mayo that was on the top of Sam's lips, "I'll help you."
He reached over with a tissue and wiped the mayo off her lip. She giggled slightly and once she no longer had anything on her, Kai leaned forward and gave her a quick peck.
The two of them laughed at each other before their eyes met, their eyes both filled with love and adoration. This was it, Kai was going to tell her.
"Do you love Miguel?" Kai asked her randomly.
Sam was shocked by this question. "Of course not! I'm over him."
Kai nodded. "Good."
"Why?" Sam asked. Internally she knew what was going to happen, she knew Kai loved him because of the song she read but she wasn't going to beat him to it and say it first, she was going to wait for him to say it.
Kai took a deep breath. "Ok, so Sam. I love you. That's pretty much it and I know you might not love me back because of my life, with all this moving to and from Japan and America and I know you might not want to do long-distance but if you wanted to I would try. Also I know I'm going back to America with you but it's inevitable that I'll have to come back here without you. I just wanted you to know that I love you, so much. And I'll love you forever."
Sam listened and smiled before pushing herself onto Kai and kissing him passionately.
"Does this mean you love me back?" Kai asked hopefully once they parted.
Sam giggled. "I love you too Malachai."
The two of them smiled at each other before hugging tightly, Kai holding on like this was the last time he was going to hold the girl. Their Subways were lying forgotten by their side and the water fountain still running behind them.
As they were hugging, Kai was starting to feel like he was falling backwards and he tried to balance himself but he couldn't and fell backwards landing with a splash in the water. As Kai fell, so did Sam and the two landed in the fountain together, with Sam lying above Kai.
Kai was drenched but Sam was only slightly wet since she fell on top of Kai. She laughed loudly as the brown-haired boy spat out the water in his mouth. Around them, the nearby people were whispering and some even asked if the two were ok.
They were ok, they were better than ok.
They didn't care that they had made a scene.
They were two careless teenagers in love, and that was all that mattered to them.
