Chapter 1: Invasion
"Oliver honey, have you started packing yet? You know you leave tomorrow and you'll totally freak out if I'm even a minute late taking you to the campus." Mamma was already back in my personal space even though I told her to relax only an hour ago. Sure I was an only child and it had to be hard watching your son go off to college for god knows how long without seeing him but still. She was totally up my ass these fast few weeks.
"Yes mamma I know, I've already got three boxes done just calm down already." I sighed exasperatedly, sending her a glare.
"Don't use that tone with me Ollie I'm your mother you know how I get when I'm stressed." Somehow she always had a reason to make me feel bad. Trust me she'd be just fine with her new boyfriend while I'm gone, never had a problem before.
"Sorry mamma I'm just saying, why don't you go out to a movie or something with Dante?" I suggested. It seemed to do just the trick because she perked up immediately and left my room with her phone to her ear. Jeez she was completely smitten with this guy. Mamma had divorced my father when I was four and moved me with her to America. She said she couldn't stand his selfish ways anymore and didn't want to stay in Italy any longer so she moved us to Colorado in hopes of a better life. When I was younger I didn't understand because it seemed liked dad was a nice guy but as I got older I finally put the pieces together. He was abusive to Mamma and he was involved with the mafia or whatever. Life carried on in the end and I loved my life here.
After spending another boring hour on packing I was finally done. The only thing that I kept out was my telescope and journal that I used for Astronomy. One thing I was really going to miss in college was this room. Mamma had gone out of her way to do anything to make me the happiest little boy and that included getting a skylight put in my ceiling. It was an incredibly sized one too, I'd stay awake for hours and just watch the sky at night. Whenever Mamma was feeling depressed she'd creep in my room and just watch the stars with me till we fell asleep, it was my most fond memory.
Now, as I sat on the edge of my bed I found myself fighting back tears. It's amazing how fast life seems to go by. I remembered getting my first - and only - boyfriend like it was yesterday. It's been 5 years since then and I only have one friend. I think what turns people off about me is that when I express my passion for astronomy they think I'm one giant nerd. Not Mamma though, she always admired my passion for it. I sniffled and wiped away
a few tears that managed to escape.
Maybe college life wouldn't be so bad, I mean I'd have Matt. As stupid of a friend he was he somehow managed to get a scholarship. The bastard could definitely run I'd give him that. Plus it was the gateway to my dreams. To continue further in the exploration of the stars and space in general. All of the overwhelming thoughts about college was tiring honestly. Since I had finished packing everything I decided to just lay down and rest, sleep soon taking over.
My body was being shaken roughly which led to me being woken up. It was like midnight so who the hell decided to wake me up? Mamma of course. I groaned and rolled over choosing to ignore the woman. When a sharp pain ran through my body I finally payed attention to her. Damn, did she really have to smack me so hard?
"Oliver wake up! There's something strange outside Ollie." Mamma spoke frantically and it finally caught my attention.
"Is it an animal or person or vehicle?"
"I don't know, it looks like a person but at the same time it doesn't, Ollie I'm scared." Her voice trembled and I felt bad. Sighing I pulled her close to me and rubbed her back.
"Look Mamma, just calm down. The house is all locked up and no one can get in plus we can always call 911 if we have to." She seemed to relax at that but tensed back up when something hit the roof. What the fuck kind of prank were these guys trying to pull? Next, my skylight was completely blocked, darkness completely filled the room and my breath hitched in my throat. These guys were going too far now. Before I could say anything more a loud ringing sound rang through my ears and made me cover them, the sound was so high it seemed impossible that my eardrums didn't burst. After that we both passed out and were left questioning what the hell was going on.
~
"Oliver, Ollie wake up! Wake up wake up Ollie, we have to go!" Distorted yelling came from beside me and I barely gained consciousness.
"W-what are you rambling about Mamma?" The middle aged woman stopped what she was doing and looked me dead in the eye.
"Ollie, no matter what happens I love you and will see you in another life but for now just please list-" and then she was cut off and fell to the floor, not a trace of blood or any sort of wound but one thing was for sure. Mamma was dead.
Oxygen seemed to be completely cut off from my lungs as I heaved. I couldn't breath at all and I could feel a panic attack about to occur. Thoughts like 'what the hell is going on' coursed through my mind as I tried to calm myself. The last thing I remembered was passing out from that weird sound and weird guys outside of the house trying to prank us or whatever. Now Mamma was dead and I still had no idea who those people were. My legs moved before I could process what I was doing and I went to open my bedroom door only to have it opened for me. The action startled me and I tripped backwards, falling on my ass. No, it wasn't Dante that opened it or even Matt. What seemed to be a human being was definitely not one in the slightest.
That day I came face to face with one of the foreign beings who caused chaos for the human race and threatened Earths existence.
