Episode 6 part 3 A Problem With Confidence
Michiko was confused by his seriousness. "What is it?"
He looked to the ground for a few more seconds of silence before he let out a breath through his nose and suddenly looked her in the face. "I'm quitting the Extra Credit Club."
"What?!" Setsuna and Atsuto asked at the same time, Atsuto being the louder.
Michiko blinked back at him in surprise.
Even Kurami looked over.
There was a sound behind him and Kenya turned to see Kaiya had walked in the room and dropped her stuff in surprise at what he said. Her eyes were wide. "Kenya... do you mean that?"
He shrunk back a bit feeling slightly guilty. He really didn't want her of all people to hear.
"Yes why all of a sudden?" Michiko asked.
He shrugged. "I just... I need to quit."
"Well I can't stop you but-" Michiko started.
"Great." Kenya cut her off. "I gotta go." He then turned around and walked past Kaiya and out the door, leaving with out a word, or a second glance at any of them.
"Kenya!" Michiko tried to call out, but he kept walking.
Kaiya's gaze was glued to the floor after he left. She was shaking.
"Oh no he doesn't get to just leave like that with no explanation." Setsuna said semi-angrily as he quickly left the room after him.
"H-he can't quit the club..." Kaiya whispered. She then looked up slightly to reveal that she'd started to cry. "H-he can't leave... then he'll stop being my friend." Her voice cracked. "I-I don't want him to stop being my friend..." she whimpered.
"Kaiya..." Michiko said in worry putting her book down and walking over to the girl. "Don't cry."
"Yeah." Atsuto joined her too smiling at the upset girl. "Everything will be okay."
"Yeesh..." Kurami sighed looking away from the three of them and out the window.

Kenya was walking quickly in the direction of the front gate.
"Kenya hey!" A voice called behind him.
Setsuna caught up with him, grabbing his arm a bit roughly to stop him. "Oi, stop when I'm trying to talk to you." His voice was threatening.
"What do you want!" Kenya snapped ripping his arm away from his grip.
Setsuna glared at the boy for his inappropriately angry behavior, but tried to keep as much of his temper as he could. "I want to know why you suddenly decided to quit the club."
"Because I just did okay." Kenya said his voice dripping with annoyance. "I'm not the type for that sort of club." He turned back around taking a few steps.
"It seems like you feel like you aren't the type for a lot of things!" Setsuna called after him.
That made Kenya freeze in his tracks. "You're point?"
"My point is you need to stop feeling sorry for yourself, and take a chance every now and then." The rebel boy stated.
"Tch." Kenya let out a small laugh that didn't really show any amusement. "Easy for you to say... You don't give a damn about what anyone thinks."
"Yeah I don't, and neither should you." Setsuna crossed his arms still looking at Kenya's back. "Nobody should."
"Yeah well not everyone is like you! Or Atsuto or Michiko, Kurami, even Kaiya. Not everyone can just be satisfied with who they are!" Kenya raised his voice. "Some people just don't think they're good enough..."
"Who ever said you weren't good enough?" Setsuna asked getting annoyed by the others attitude.
"EVERYONE!" Kenya screamed loudly.
Setsuna was taken aback by the sudden out burst. There was a long silence as Kenya just stood there panting from all of the anger he'd just expressed.
Then Setsuna shuffled and composed himself. "Everyone huh? That's funny I don't remember ever saying that... Neither did Atsuto, or Michiko, Kurami, and certainly not Kaiya." He hesitated a few seconds to see if Kenya would respond. He didn't, he just stood there. "But hey if you want to quit..." The slight anger in his tone returned. "Then go ahead and suit yourself." He then stuffed his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket and walked back into the school, leaving Kenya to stand there alone.

Kaiya was now sitting on the ground trying and failing to speak through her blubbering cried. "Hebcam'tleabe-he'smyonbly-fremnd."
"Shh." Atsuto patted her back.
"It's all gonna be okay." Michiko added. "Oh this couldn't get any worse..."
"Hey Extra Credit Club, just checking in." The principal suddenly walked in. "Eh?" Once he saw the crying girl on the floor he knew he came at a bad time.
"Ah! Just had to open my mouth..." Michiko left Kaiya with Atsuto and quickly walked over to the principle. She bowed deeply. "Hello sir."
"Hi..." he trailed off looking around the room. "Where's Setsuna? Don't tell me he ditched out."
"Oh no!" She answered. "There was a bit of um..." she looked over to see Kaiya blowing her nose. "Drama with our other member Kenya, and Setsuna went after him."
"Okay... well. I'll leave you guys to work all of this out then..." the principal then awkwardly backed out of the room.
-&-
Setsuna walked down the hall grumbling to himself. "Stupid brainiac making everything so complicated..."
"Setsuna." The principal greeted him as he quickly walked past.
"What's with him..." Setsuna asked before returning to the club. "Uh?!" He froze in the door when he saw Kaiya a mess of tears and tissues on the floor. "Never mind I get why he left..."
"Setsuna, did you talk to him?" Michiko asked.
"Yeah I did." Setsuna suddenly felt his anger return.
"A-and?" Kaiya managed as she was finally starting to compose herself.
"Whatever!" Setsuna growled angrily pulling out his chair and plopping down in it. "If that idiot really wants to leave then good riddance!"
"He's really leaving..." Kaiya trailed off sadly.
"Well we can't force him to do anything he doesn't want to. There's no need to get so upset." Michiko directed the statement to Setsuna.
"I'm not upset!" Said boy snapped.
"Clearly..." Michiko stated like she didn't at all believe him. "Anyway, Kenya will be missed, but we'll just have to try and get along like a normal club without him."

Meanwhile Kenya was sitting between to walls of the outer school finding himself unable to go home. He had his bag thrown to the side, and pulled his knees to his chest, as he sat there in deep thought.
"Hm?" Hinaga was walking back to the locker room with all her baseball equipment in hand when she spotted him in the corner of her eye. She saw he seemed upset and decided to walk over to him. "Hey Kenya-Kun." She smiled down at him. "What are you doing?"
"O-oh! Hinaga?" He flinched slightly, but then went back to moping almost immediately. "What are you doing here..?"
"Practice was cut short today." She explained. "What are you doing here? Don't you have a club you should be getting to?"
He didn't respond and just hugged his knees closer.
"Is there something on your mind?" She asked him in concern.
There was a bit of silence. "Hinaga... do you ever feel like you're not good enough to be team captain?"
She was surprised by his question. "Well... sometimes I guess. Like when I mess up or cost us a game. That can be pretty discouraging..." she then looked up to The sky and smiled. "but then that goes away when my team comes around and makes me feel better. Then I know I'm right for the job. They remind me that I'm right where I belong."
Kenya widened his eyes slightly and remembered Setsuna coming after him.
{"Everyone huh? That's funny I don't remember ever saying that... Neither did Atsuto, or Michiko, Kurami, and certainly not Kaiya."}
"One more thing..." he trailed off making her look over to him. "What... what do you think of me, just like... in general?"
"You?" She asked she then gave a small laugh. "I've known you for a long time Kenya. At least I consider it a long time. You are one of the only friends I kept from my first year of junior high...You are so kind. Always putting others before yourself. Despite people looking down on you for it sometimes you're still so brave. I remember you used to stand up for others and end up getting the beatings for them... a lot of people would kill to have the unwavering amount of loyalty you have to almost everyone you meet." She then paused. "You really only one one major flaw..."
He lifted his head, looking her, and started listening even more intently.
"Sometimes your devotion to others gets in the way of your devotion to yourself." She explained. "You never seemed to have all that much confidence in you despite trying to inspire it in everyone else. I'm not saying it's a bad thing to put others before you, but doing too much of that is only going to really hurt you one day... You need to understand that you're allowed to be happy... And you can't throw the things that bring you that joy and satisfaction in yourself away, not for anything or anyone..."
"The things that make me happy..?" He whispered to himself. He thought back to Myū and Yuzu. How good it made him feel to see them finally end up together. And how big Sia smiled when they brought her Sophie back to her. He then though of Kaiya... he was her first and seemingly only friend. He remembered how happy he was when she was so thankful to him every single time he walked her to the club. Such a little thing and yet it brought both of them so much satisfaction.
Helping people... that's what made him happy....
And that was all because of the Extra Credit Club.
He would have never met any of them if he hadn't joined...
"But hey..." Hinaga sighed placing her hands on her knees and pushing herself up. "What do I know? It's not like I'm a personality expert." She then looked down to him and smiled. "See you later Kenya-Kun!" She then continued her journey back to the locker room.
Kenya couldn't help but wonder if he really did have a problem? Did he really give everything that made him happy away?
-&-
"It feels strange with only five people..." Atsuto pointed out the next day as the club were all making their way to the sports center.
"We'll get used to it." Setsuna stated semi-violently.
"Setsuna..." Michiko gave him a warning glare as Kaiya looked down sadly.
They made it to the sports center only to see a familiar figure standing there. It was Kenya.
Before anyone else could say anything Setsuna spoke. "What are you doing here brainiac? I thought you weren't part of this club anymore."
Kenya flinched at his tone. "Well.... I...."
"Technically speaking this isn't official club time." Kurami pointed out emotionlessly.
"True and this is a business." Michiko added. "He's free to be here."
"Plus I called him." Atsuto said proudly.
"Whatever..." Setsuna walked up the stairs and into the building.
Kenya followed the others as they did as well.
"Actually Michiko..." Kenya built up the courage to speak once they were all inside. "I-I was wondering..." he paused to take a deep breath. "If I could come back to the club tomorrow... and... the rest of the year?"
Kaiya smiled brightly looking to the president expectantly.
Michiko let a small smile grace her lips as well. "We'd be happy to have you back."
"YAY!" Atsuto clapped happily.
Kenya felt himself smile.
"Well it's good to see you finally got some sense in that big brain..." Setsuna mumbled.
"Yeah I'm sorry I caused so much trouble guys..." Kenya rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Guess I have a bit of a problem with confidence..."
"Well that's understandable." Atsuto stated. "We all have insecurities."
"And flaws." Michiko added.
"Yeah I certainly have my doubts..." Kaiya said with a smile.
"Speak for yourselves I'm flawless." Setsuna gloated confidently.
Michiko flicked his ear.
"OW! kidding I know no ones perfect..." he grumbled rubbing his ear.
"No one is ever 100% confident in themselves, it's just human, but we can't let our insecurities get the best of us, and we certainly can't let other people misguide us from the true person we know we are. We decide if we're good enough." Michiko told him.
Kenya felt his smile return. "Thanks Michiko-Senpai."
"Now that that's handled." Setsuna sighed. "I noticed that someone beat my high score on space raiders."
Kenya laughed. "What can I say, I've always been good at arcade games."
"Well not like me, I'm calling a rematch, here and now, for as long as it may take!" He pointed at the nerd.
"You're on." Kenya agreed and they both ran over the the old arcade machine.

"Setsuna, did all your friends leave?" Mamoru asked walking into the lobby area later that afternoon. He automatically shut up when he saw the two boys by the space raiders game.
Kenya was leaned against the side on the floor sleeping soundly, while Setsuna was sitting on the chair his head resting on the game pad surface as he snored slightly.
Everyone else was gone.
Mamoru smiled getting a few blankets and putting them over them. He then found Kenya's phone in his bag and started to go through the contacts. He hit call.
"Hello?" The voice on other end answered after two rings.
"Hello miss, this is Mamoru, Setsuna's older cousin we met the other day at the school." He greeted.
"Ah yes Setsuna, Kenya's new friend..." She replied.
"Right." He agreed. "I just wanted to let you know Your son will be spending the rest of the night here. It's already late and I don't think it'd be appropriate to let him walk home now."
"Alright..." she sighed. "Thanks for contacting me."
"No problem." He replied and was about to hang up.
Her voice interrupted him. "Can I ask you one thing?"
"Sure." He replied.
Her formal tone softened. "Kenya... is he happy?"
Mamoru looked back over at the contently sleeping boys and smiled. "Yeah, he is."
"Good."
