Chapter 1

The so-called 'Bakusquad' sat around in Mina's room, Denki Kaminari and Hanta Sero played Speed at her table, Kyoka Jirou was writing a song with Mina looking over her shoulder and occasionally giving ignored suggestions, and Ejirou Kirishima and Katsuki Bakugou playing Game Pigeon on their phones, occasionally yelling at the other to hurry up. Well, Bakugou occasionally yelled at Kirishima to hurry up, the red head just asked calmly if Bakugou was planning on going, usually earning a yell in response.

Needless to say, the room was full of noise. That was to be expected however, because it was the Bakusquad after all, and they were all very loud.

"Speed!" Sero yelled. "I win! Again!"

Kaminari grumbled something about the raven haired boy cheating then slipped over to his boyfriend, Eijirou, to see how he was doing. The ash blonde and redhead were playing Battleships at the moment, and it seemed like Eijirou was winning.

Mina's phone rang through the room at the same time as Bakugou groaned loudly and Kirishima squealed in delight- the shark boy had just sunk another ship.

Mina grabbed her phone and checked to see who the caller was. Her heart sank as she read the name.

Kane Watanabe.

Mina sighed, half tempted to just let it ring itself to silence before deciding she didn't want to get yelled at by her boyfriend for not picking up, plus, all her friends had gone quiet to allow her to speak at a normal voice level.

She answered the phone, clutching her comforter nervously, hoping her friends wouldn't notice anything was wrong.

"Where are you right now?" Kane's harsh voice demanded. He wasn't very soft.

"I'm with some friends. We're hanging out." She answered simply, hoping no one would notice the very slight quiver in her voice when she said 'friends.' Kane was also the jealous type, so she expected the next question.

"How many of them? And how many are boys?" He asked.

She sighed inwardly. "Look, now's not really the best time... we're hanging out."

"Your turn." Kirishima whispered to Bakugou.

The blonde nodded, choosing a random space, not caring that he didn't hit a ship or that Kirishima only needed one more and he would win. He was focusing on his pink friend's conversation. That girl didn't always have the best judgement with dudes, but Bakugou hoped that she would always end things with them if things got bad.

"At least give me a number. How many boys?" Kane asked.

"Erm..." Mina mentally counted off her friends. "Four."

"Okay. And girls? Not counting yourself?"

"One."

Mina could basically see Kane's eyes narrow.

"I have to go, sorry." Mina hung up before Kane would respond, regretting it almost immediately. She mentally prepared herself for the next phone call, when she would most likely get her ear yelled off, but leaned back towards Jirou's paper as noise filled the room again, not noticing Bakugou's red eyes studying her face carefully, narrowing as he noticed something.

A tear.

-

"Hey, Racoon Eyes!" Bakugou called.

"Yeah?" Mina answered to her nickname, turning to face the blonde. "What is it?"

"Dunce Face told me to offer you help studying because you wanted creation lady to help you but she couldn't for some reason and you didn't want to ask me- I don't know, you know how he gets, talking too fast for anyone to understand. Anyway I decided to listen because Shitty Hair had just arrived and I didn't want to be alone with them so grab your shit we're studying for that test." Bakugou Explained, rolling his eyes and sounding slightly angry as per usual. "And hurry up."

The ash blonde then turned and walked down the hallway towards the couches, clearly where he planned on studying, seeing as his stuff was already littered across the table.

Mina smiled slightly to herself, she had in fact needed help studying for the upcoming test. She understood a total of nothing so far, despite having spent thirty minutes in her room trying to make sense of the subject by herself since Momo had indeed been busy doing something that night that she couldn't cancel on.

Mina grabbed her books and ran over, plopping onto the couch across from the blonde. He was reading his notes quietly, occasionally scribbling down something extra or crossing something off.

"So... help?" Mina asked, dumping her books onto her side of the table.

Bakugou rolled an eye at her. "What do you not understand?"

"Most of it."

"Most of it." Bakugou deadpanned.

"All of it." Mina corrected.

"This shit is so easy how in the hell-"

"Says the person with ten pages of notes." Mina shot back playfully.

"There's twelve pages, actually, and none of these are for this lesson. It's new stuff I'm working out with my quirk."

"You took twelve pages of notes on your quirk?" Mina asked, her mouth gaping open.

"Close your mouth and yes. Just random thoughts and shit."

He really was quite similar to Midoriya, even if he'd never admit that, Mina mused silently. Just louder and more on just making himself better instead of how to beat everyone else.

Mina laughed lightly at those thoughts, imagining Bakugou's reaction if he ever heard her comparing him to Midoriya.

"What's so funny?" Bakugou demanded.

Mina smiled innocently. "Nothing..."

Bakugou stared at her for a second before pulling out a binder from his mess of stuff.

"Okay, I'll quiz you to start, shouldn't be too hard." Bakugou said, glancing over his notes quickly.

"Okay," Mina felt suddenly slightly nervous. Kirishima had a lot to say about Bakugou's teaching methods, the fact that they worked, although they were somewhat painful when you couldn't remember how to do something after he had explained it five different ways.

How Bakugou was able to explain anything five different ways Mina had no idea, since Momo only explained it up to three different ways before just restarting and making everyone learn from scratch.

"Hello? Are you listening to me?" Bakugou demanded, making small explosions in front of Mina's face causing her to rear back sharply with a squeal.

"Jesus, Bakugou, get that out of my face!" She shouted, her heart beating very fast.

The blonde seemed to be holding in a smile. "Calm down Alien Bitch, I actually have control over what my quirk hits, and I wasn't going to ruin your face."

"What's that mean?" She pouted.

"Well first, it's bad enough, and second, your little boyfriend wouldn't like it if you were hurt, would he?"

Mina shivered. She still hadn't gotten a call back from Kane and didn't know when it would happen. The longer he waited the more nervous she got.

She hoped Bakugou hadn't noticed, but other than his eyes narrowing, he didn't do or say anything if he had.

"Can we just start?" She asked.

Bakugou shrugged, leaning back into the sofa and reading the first question.

-

"If someone's quirk causes them to-" Before Mina could finish her question her phone rang, interrupting her almost angrily, although her ringtone was The Duck Song.

She grabbed her phone, not entirely surprised to see that it was Kane but not happy about it either.

Bakugou appeared next to her, looking at the contact name. He took the phone out of her hand mere seconds before she pressed accept.

"Bakugou! Give me my phone!" Mina exclaimed, surprised at the blonde's action.

"No. This asshole is making you feel bad and you don't deserve that. If he hurts your feelings you should break up with him."

"He doesn't hurt my feelings!"

"Really? Don't lie to me, I can't help you if you lie."

"Bakugou, he'll get angry."

"Just tell him I stole your phone then, he can't get mad at you for something you can't control."

The words slipped out of Mina's mouth before she could stop them. "No, you're a guy, he'll get jealous, he already doesn't trust me as is, plus he's already mad I hung up on him, and he's gonna yell at me-" Mina slapped her hands over her mouth as Bakugou's eyes widened.

"Mina, are you scared of this dude?" Bakugou asked, a note of worry in his voice. He seemed to be trying to hide it.

"No." Mina whispered through her fingers.

Her ringtone stopped for a few seconds before The Duck Song started playing again, a very inappropriate background music for the current conversation.

"Break up with him." Bakugou demanded, handing her her phone.

"I can't." She whispered, reaching for the phone but he tightened his grip on the phone.

"Look, if he's scaring you, you have to end things with him. I don't care what he says or said he'd do. If he says something to you, give me the phone, just don't put yourself in a toxic relationship. I can handle this mother fucker, he doesn't stand a chance against me."

The phone stopped ringing then rang again, leaving Mina more terrified than before.

"But-"

"No. No buts. Say 'I'm breaking up with you.' If he starts giving you shit, give me the phone and I'll shut him up. P-please, Mina, don't stay in a relationship that's hurting you, even if it's only emotional." Bakugou said, his voice cracking.

Please? Did Bakugou just say please? I don't want to hurt him, not if he actually cares about me. Mina felt her heart flutter as Bakugou handed her phone back to her.

"Alright bitch, why the fuck did you not answer?" Kane's voice thundered into Mina's ear and her lip began to tremble. Bakugou was watching her carefully and he hesitated before setting his hand softly on top of hers, squeezing a little to calm her nerves before pulling his hand back sharply. The gesture was appreciated though and Mina managed to find her voice.

"We have to break up." she said.

"The fuck did you say?" Kane demanded angrily.

"I said, 'we have to break up.' I don't wanna be with you anymore, so we're breaking up." Mina said, her voice getting stronger.

"Listen up you little bitch, you know how lucky you are I even bothered with you? You're not hot, cute, or even pretty so ending things with me will only end in heartbreak for you. I can find another girl easy as can be, you'll just end up alone. So don't even try that shit with me, got it?" Kane said, his words making Mina feel like crying. She thought that enough times, that's why she always found herself in these toxic relationships with no escape. Hearing someone actually say it though... that hurt worse.

"I mean... maybe we can..." Mina started but Bakugou snatched the phone out of her hand.

"She found someone better so shut the fuck up and never call this number again. I'll be blocking you too, so don't even try calling. If I ever see your face I'll blow your ass so far I won't get caught, because there'll be nothing left of you to find as evidence." Bakugou then hung up before Kane could answer, rage making his blood boil.

Mina stared at him in surprise, unmoving.

He handed her phone back. "Block him." he instructed. "I don't want him to be able to contact you again. Plus, you deserve the honor of doing that yourself."

Mina fumbled for the block button, tears making her vision blurry.

"Okay." she whispered, showing him that she had blocked Kane Watanabe.

"Look Racoon Eyes, you need to find someone who makes you feel good about yourself and doesn't force you to stay in a relationship with them. Someone who sees your worth. Who tells you you're pretty and wants to spend all their time with you. These toxic guys you've dated... they don't do that. They just hurt you. Find someone who would never hurt you. Who loves you. Don't date people like Kane Watanabe." Bakugou spit out Kane's name as if it tasted sour.

"I'm going to bed. It's been a long night." Bakugou gathered his stuff and left. They had never finished studying, but Mina was stressed and Bakugou seemed angry so she let him leave when he wanted to.

I wonder if he would have stayed if I asked him to. She thought silently as Bakugou pushed his books into his bag.

Bakugou began walking away when he stopped moving and turned back. "Shit- did you want to finish studying, or do you understand?"

Mina didn't understand, but Bakugou seemed tired and angry, so she decided to just let him leave. This time.

"Nah, I get it." she said, waving her hand and smiling softly. Bakugou nodded and turned, not glancing back.
