2: Always
After finishing your classwork and homework in class, your teacher dismisses you fifteen minutes earlier than the usual time. You thank him and exit the classroom. As you walk down the hallway, you pull out your phone to text Katsuki Bakugo. After all these years, even up to the last few weeks of middle school, Katsuki has been friends with you since then.
"I'll always be there for you, (y/n)."
Katsuki stayed true to his word from when you two were first graders. You text him that you were dismissed early from class again. He quickly messages you back and tells you to wait for him in front of your middle school. You answer with an okay and eventually get to the front of your school and wait. Five minutes pass after all the schools in your town dismiss all the students and Katsuki arrives.
"Sorry that I'm late, I got cut off by a bunch of losers," apologizes Katsuki.
"It's okay, Katsuki," you say as you pick up your bag and start walking to your house side by side with Katsuki.
After elementary school, you and Katsuki went to different middle schools. Luckily enough, they were not that far apart.
"How's Izuku?" you ask, knowing that he also went to the same school as Katsuki.
"He's still quirkless," mumbles Katsuki.
"You act as if that's a bad thing," you reply.
"Can't be a hero if you're quirkless," grunts Katsuki.
"Well I believe in Izuku," you say with a smile.
"Whatever," mumbles Katsuki.
"We should all hang out after exams are over," you suggest.
"Sure," replies Katsuki.
"Maybe then Izuku won't be busy studying so hard," you note.
"Uh-huh," mumbles Katsuki as he stops.
"Okay, now I know that you're not listening. What's wrong Katsuki?" you ask, looking at Katsuki's facial expression while not paying attention to where you are walking.
Katsuki grabs your arm and pulls you into a hug.
"That's not an answer," you say with confusion.
"You almost walked into a busy street," states Katsuki as he lets go.
"Oh, thanks Katsuki," you reply with a smile.
Katsuki gives you a small smile before you two cross the busy road safely and continue your conversation from before.
"I'm a little worried that I won't pass the exams next week," answers Katsuki.
"Oh, so you're on edge?" you say.
Katsuki only nods.
"Then come over to my house! Let's have another sleepover and pull all-nighters!" you suggest.
"We're too old for sleepovers," mumbles Katsuki.
"What? You can never be too old for sleepovers!" you say in protest.
"No, I mean," Katsuki's brows furrow as his cheeks turn a tint of pink. "I mean, isn't that a little bit weird since we're teenagers of the opposite gender..."
"Oh! Don't worry Katsuki! I keep my pads in a place where you won't find them on accident!" you say out loud with a smile.
Katsuki only face-palms at how dense you have become over the years.
"I don't mean that (y/n). I mean, aren't you afraid that I'll... I don't know, take advantage of you or something and steal a kiss or something like that?" questions Katsuki as he blushes even more.
"Oh... Oh!" you mumble as you blush thinking at the thought of Katsuki kissing you. You quickly snap out of your trance and shake your head no. "Of course not. I trust you Katsuki. Although... Why would you think of such a thing? Are you falling in love with me?" You laugh at the accusation as Katsuki looks away as he grunts.
"No! We're like siblings! That'd be weird," mumbles Katsuki. "You freaking weirdo."
"Whatever, by the way, Katsuki, why are you still walking me from and to school? I don't think those fourth-grade bullies will bother me, or anyone considering what my mother did to them," you ask.
Katsuki stops and looks you in the eyes.
"It doesn't matter if it seems like no one will bother you. I want to protect you. I told you several years ago that I would always be there for you and protect you no matter what," answers Katsuki with seriousness in his eyes.
"I want to protect you too!" you say as you smile. "And, of course, I'll be there for you too- Always!"
Katsuki only smiles with delight as he blushes. Noticing how warm his face feels, he turns away to not face you and says, "Well go put your stuff up. I want us to walk together to get my stuff, you nerd."
You look to your right to notice that you two were at your house already.
"Oh! We're here! Okay! Come inside with me and say hi to my mom Katsuki. You know how much she loves you," you say as you drag Katsuki inside your household.
Your mother greets you and Katsuki with hugs as you both enter the household. You ask your mother if Katsuki can have a sleepover over the weekend to prepare for exams next week, and of course she happily agrees. After throwing your stuff in your room without tidying up, you run out the door yelling, "Hurry up Kaachan!" It had been a while since you have called Katsuki 'Kaachan', so you thought why not say it for old times sake. Katsuki bids your mother farewell for now and quickly follows you behind. You both run over to Katsuki's house to be greeted by his mother and father.
"Hi Mrs. and Mr. Bakugo!" you greet Katsuki's parents with a bright smile.
"Why hello there beauty and the beast," says Mitsuki as she washes the dishes with her husband sitting at the dinner table reading the newspaper.
"Shut it hag!" yells Katsuki.
"Don't you dare raise your voice at me young man!" yells back Mitsuki as she holds her fist up from the soapy water at Katsuki.
"Watch me!" yells back Katsuki.
You pat Katsuki on the back, snapping him out of his anger.
"You always get so worked up about things Katsuki. If it makes you feel any better, then I feel that you'd be a charming beast," you say, trying to lighten up the mood.
"Yeah, and Mitsuki, if you were a hag, you'd be a beautiful hag," smiles Masaru.
You got a thank you from Katsuki while Masaru got smacked in the face with a wet dishrag. Although, Masaru ended up getting a kiss on the cheek and a thank you too. After the yelling, you explain to the Bakugo family of your plan to have a sleepover study session for the whole weekend with Katsuki and they happily agree. Before Katsuki could go pack for a two-day sleepover, his mother says something very absurd.
"So, are ya two dating yet?" questions Mitsuki.
"Wh-What! N-No!" you stutter out with embarrassment written over your face.
Katsuki only blushes at the thought of you two being together.
"Seems like Katsuki here is wonderin' the same thing too!" laughs Mitsuki.
"Shut up old hag!" snaps back Katsuki as his face turns as red as a tomato.
"Just go get your stuff packed so I don't have to look at your face any longer!" yells back Mitsuki angrily.
"Whatever!" yells back Katsuki as he runs into his room to pack his things.
You sit at the large dining table with Masaru and Mitsuki.
"Thank you for being a good friend to Katsuki, (y/n). I'm sorry that you have to deal with such a big pain," says Mitsuki.
"Oh no, Katsuki is a great friend too," you say with a smile.
"Have you noticed any difference with Katsuki recently though?" asks Masaru with a worried expression.
"Oh, no. Not exactly. Although, he does stop paying attention whenever I bring up Izuku Midoriya. Which I find weird because we were all such great friends before we all manifested our quirks- aside from Izuku of course," you answer.
"Well, ever since Katsuki got his quirk, he was always praised for it whether he deserved it or not, so that caused him to gain excessive pride within himself. I fear that he and Izuku aren't really on good terms anymore," says Mitsuki.
"That's awful!" you say with a worried expression.
"So, we were wondering if you could take care of Katsuki and try to make sure that he doesn't get into a lot of trouble because of his arrogance," says Masaru.
"Of course. I already told him that I'd protect him and be there for him- Always!" you say with a smile. "I care a lot about Katsuki."
You hear a grunt behind you, causing you to turn to face a certain ash-blonde hothead.
"Let's go. I know how you hate the dark (y/n), so let's hurry up before we have to walk in the dark the whole time," says Katsuki as he walks out the front door.
You quickly get up and say goodbye to the Bakugo family. Then you make your way out the front, quickly closing it from behind. This left Mitsuki and Masaru alone to speak to one another.
"Hm, I wonder when they'll realize that they both love each other," says Masaru as he sips his coffee.
"Give 'em a month or so, they'll figure it out," says Mitsuki.
. . .
"Look, I heard what my parents were talking to you about and you don't have to worry about me," mumbles Katsuki.
"Katsuki... It's okay to prideful in oneself, but you shouldn't be so arrogant that you push others away," you say.
Katsuki only grunts as he feels guilt.
"Besides, I know that you're a good person Katsuki. You just let your pride get in the way of your good character," you continue saying.
"Whatever," mumbles Katsuki.
"Don't whatever me Katsuki. I know that you're a good person. It's okay to be prideful, it just means you're confident. Just... don't let it come between our friendship," you say as you nervously look at the ground.
"It won't (y/n)... I care too much about you to let you go," says Katsuki.
"I care a lot about you too- Always," you say once again.
"Always," says Katsuki.
Eventually, you two make it to your house to be greeted by the wonderful smell of your mother's spicy curry. After finishing dinner first, you run into your room to change into a short-sleeved shirt and cozy shorts. You go into the bathroom to brush your teeth and floss. Once you finish, you walk into your room to be greeted by a shirtless Katsuki setting up his sleeping area, which contains a mat, blanket, and pillow. You run and jump over Katsuki to land on your back on your bed. You face Katsuki, who was eye level to you due to him on his knees on the floor right next to your bed.
"Hey noob," you say with a smile.
Katsuki only smiles as he replies with, "Look at yourself, nerd."
As Katsuki fluffs up his pillow, you pat him on the head, causing him to flinch a bit. However, he continues to let you pet him, even after he finishes setting up his sleeping area. You stop and bring your hand back to your chest as if you were hugging yourself.
"Sorry, I just think your hair's really soft even though it's super spikey," you say with a smile.
"It's okay, I would've done the same to you," mumbles Katsuki.
Katsuki turns off the lights and lays on the mat staring at the ceiling. You lay under your own covers looking at your night light. Katsuki never made fun of you for your fear of the dark, nor did he tease you about your looks. He understood everything and anything about you, as you did about him too. It was a wonderful friendship you enjoyed and wished that it would never come to an end. Although, there is always the downs to a roller coaster.
