Chapter 1-Laila

I woke up.

But... was I really awake? It was so dark. And cold. It had been so long since I'd seen light. I could feel the cold. That was okay I guess. At least I could feel at all. For the past... Year? Years? I didn't know how long. I had been unable to feel, in constant torment. So the cold was a welcome development, soothing the burning, aching feeling that had settled into my bones. The light flooded in, and I was almost blinded by it. I fell forwards, and expected to fall on my face. A pair of scaly arms saved me from that fate and wrapped around me like a warm blanket. That defied logic. Things that were scaly were supposed to be cold, right? A voice, presumably of the scaly creature, gasped.

"Oh my God!"

I looked up to see who was talking, my eyes unwilling to adjust to the light, causing a headache. It was a young adult with circular glasses, wearing a large t-shirt and a lab coat. As I expected, her skin was scaly. It was yellow, almost glowing, reflecting the fluorescent light off of it. There were large spines growing on the back of her head, and she was short for a grown monster. I tried to speak.

"H-h-hello." I stuttered. Damn. It had been so long since I had spoken, I sounded weak.

"H-hi! What's your name?" the woman stuttered back.

"Don't have one. But my number is #666-24601." The woman paused for a moment, taking in what I had said.

"W-well my name's Alphys. You look like a skeleton, and I read something about skeletons using font names, so I'll ask Sans about it."

"Sans?" That name sounded familiar. But I stopped thinking about it. I had more important things to worry about at the moment.

"Where's my sister?" I asked, determined to find her.

"Your sister? Oh! You must mean Serif!" What? How did she have a name? She hadn't been around for long. We were both woken up a little while ago.

Right?

Now that she thought about it, they had been talking less recently. Her voice seemed... Far away.

"We woke her up a while ago!"

I gasped. She had been awake, and she hadn't mentioned me sooner, hadn't tried to save me?! I was angry, more than anything.

Didn't she care about me!?

We were sisters after all!

I began to cry gross, huge tears. Snot was running down my face. I must have looked awful and disgusting. Alphys would hate me now. She would abandon me.

"She *Hic* forgot about me! She must *Hic* hate me."

Alphys hugged me saying

"She was just excited about being out! She would never forget you!"

"But*Hic* She did!" I continued to sob awfully. Alphys hadn't left me yet.

I tried to calm down.

I breathed hard, coughing a little.

"How come you woke her up earlier!" I asked Alphys, fuming with rage.

"You were in critical condition! We had to make sure you were stable!" Alphys almost yelled. Oh. I wasn't healthy? What was wrong with me?

My voice shook as I asked

"W-what's wrong with me then?"

"Well, you were supposed to have determination and a physical form, but you've been in the underground for so long, your body absorbed some magic, causing you to lose that physical form."

Oh. I was sick. Broken.

"So why did you?" I asked looking at Alphys.

I felt bad about it instantly. I had snapped at Alphys, the first person who had cared about me since my sister. I bet she hated me.

Just like my sister.
