The inheritance Sehun's father left before he died wasn't money, house, nor a car. Fortunately, it wasn't debt, too.
It was a precious collection.
A collection of Chinese porcelain dolls, specifically.
His father wasn't an artist, a businessman, nor a craftsman when he was still alive. He was a caretaker of a Chinese ancestral mansion, so when the owners passed away, they transferred to their loyal servant their properties including the house and the doll collection worthing billions and millions of money. Many negotiators and experts have attempted to buy them, and even offered the collection for auction overseas, but the caretaker firmly declined. As a child, Sehun had witnessed every people trying to bribe and persuade his father, so he deeply knew by heart how much the old man treasured the collection greater than his life.
"It is one of the things in this world that cannot be bought by wealth," Sehun remembered his dying father telling him as he lied breathlessly on the hospital bed, "Protect the doll collection, my son. Protect them like how I protected you."
Sehun gently placed the bouquet of carnation on his father's grave stone. "It has been three years since you left me, Dad." He chuckled, and the warm breeze blowing to his face made his heart more melancholic. "They've been fine at home. Still beautiful as ever. And as for me." He sighed. "I've been holding up really good. Thanks to Junmyeon, I don't feel alone."
A honk from a distance caused him to turn his head. He saw his cousin waving at him and pointing at the time.
"I'll take care of myself well, Dad. It's a shame that I have to go now. The exhibit's today and I just dropped by to pay my respects..."
"Oh Sehun!" Junmyeon hollered as he cupped his mouth, and Sehun had to squint his eyes to see him, "Mr. Park's calling! Eight o'clock sharp!"
Sehun glanced at his watch.
7:53.
"Oh shit," he muttered. "Bye, Dad!" He dashed towards Junmyeon's car, and as soon as he was inside, the vehicle drove like lightning. Sehun quickly fixed his crooked necktie slapping to his cheek while Junmyeon laughed at him.
"You know I was just thinking," the older said, "You could practically become rich, though, if you sell those dolls to him. You won't even have to work your entire life."
"You want Dad's ghost to visit your sleep?"
"Hey, I was just kidding." Junmyeon shivered, then he yelled, "Uncle! I didn't mean it, okay!"
Sehun snickered. "Drive faster. You know how Mr. Park hates waiting."

The ancestral mansion was divided into two parts: the basement and the main mansion. The basement was where the thousands of pieces of porcelain Chinese dolls in various types, origins, and sizes were placed. Caged inside a special fiber glass under delicate lighting and air conditioned ventilation, they were well-taken care of to preserve their beauty and grace. Coming from budget of last year's exhibit, Sehun had managed to improve the security of the doll collection. He had CCTV's installed inside the basement to regularly supervise the dolls' condition.
It had become a tradition. Every death anniversary of Sehun's father, he would open the basement to the public for exhibition. Park Chanyeol, a famous doll enthusiast whom Sehun met two years ago, had been religiously sponsoring the exhibit. They've become acquaintances since then.
"The first porcelain dolls were made of Chinese porcelain, and were glazed to produce a shiny look. From around 1840 to 1880, it was used to make doll heads, hands, and feet..." Sehun skillfully narrated while ten to fourteen university students taking pictures and notes followed his tracks, including Mr. Park, "On my left is a fifteen-inch Bisque Doll, a French Fashion Lady, while on my right is an eighteen-inch German Kestner No. 146..."
Junmyeon was behind the students computing the fees using his calculator while Sehun explained brief history.
"So, have you cousins both changed your minds yet?" Mr. Park asked Junmyeon as he matched his steps while glancing around the collection.
"About what?"
"You know what I'm talking about, Mr. Kim."
Junmyeon gave the man a deadpaan look. "Mr. Park, if this is about that doll again..."
"My husband is willing to buy it, just name the price!" Mr. Park said, his eyes glimmering. "He'd surely love it when I took the doll home for our collection---"
"Sehun's not selling it, nor any of the other dolls in general," Junmyeon muttered. "If you want a replica, then we'd gladly provide you with one."
Mr. Park shrugged. "Baekhyun likes it original, though."
"Excuse me. What do you call that one?" a student asked Sehun while pointing at a nude life-sized porcelain doll in between the lines of elegantly dressed dolls, "I'm curious, Mr. Oh."
"Yes, that doll," Sehun laughed, looking up at the male doll standing on its heels inside the glass, its hands perched on its waist. It doesn't have anything to cover its body except for a blonde wig on its head, "It's a seventy-inch 1990 Biedermeier China Doll. Well, it's my favorite among the collection."
"Why, though?" a girl curiously asked.
"Hm. Because it's pretty?" Sehun answered while wearing a smile, "There's something special in it that I couldn't explain. It's like, we have a connection."
The group chuckled.
"How much does it cost, Mr. Oh?"
"That doll is priceless," Sehun replied, "Even a life can't measure its worth."
The doll exhibit ended later than expected. Of course, as always just like the previous years, the event wouldn't be finished without Mr. Park bugging about buying Sehun's favorite doll. A year ago, he offered 100 trillion dollars for the doll, so Sehun wasn't surprised anymore when Mr. Park doubled the price.
"Are you really sure you won't accept my offer, Mr. Oh?" Mr. Park had asked one last time before they closed the basement.
"I'm sure about it, Mr. Park. I've always been sure about it," Sehun chuckled, "See you next year."
"Okay. I'm looking forward to next year," Mr. Park said, firmly shaking his hand and smiling knowingly, "And I'll make sure I'd get to take that doll home."
-
"Don't you think Mr. Park is kind of weird?" Junmyeon asked over dinner. Seated on the other side of the long table, he was facing Sehun. "I admire his dedication."
"Maybe he just doesn't know where else to put his money," Sehun shrugged. He shoved a spoonful of rice in his mouth and followed it with water afterwards, "Today was really tiring... I'm glad it's finally done."
"You wash the dishes, I'm gonna sleep now," Junmyeon stood up and pushed his chair back. "Good night."
"Hey, just because I'm younger, you're always making me do the dishes!"
He was answered with a loud thud of the closing door of Junmyeon's room.
"Why did I even have a cousin like him?"
It was one in the morning when Sehun found himself lying on the bed. Staring at the ceiling and shifting side to side, he looked for a comfortable position so he could sleep. There was nothing going on his mind specifically, it was just for some reason, he couldn't bring himself to slumber. Maybe he was just tired or stressed out, or else, maybe he was just lacking inspiration to wake up.
Maybe he was just feeling incomplete.
Junmyeon told him once that he should try going on dates. At the age of 27, he should be getting married now or enjoying the presence of having someone by his side. All he did when his father was still alive was study History in college and pursue graduate school. All he did after his father died was take care of the mansion and the dolls, and teach History in a university as a part-time.
What a boring life that he had.
After a series of too much trying, he somehow drifted into a light sleep.
He just hoped he dreamt of something nice and interesting.
-
Junmyeon woke up at 3:00 in the morning to pee. It was a habit, so Sehun wasn't surprised anymore when he felt someone stealing his blanket. Junmyeon went to his room again to claim his bed. With an angry groan, he got up and kicked the older, but he was only replied with a satisfied moan while Junmyeon salivated on his favorite pillow.
"What the hell," Sehun muttered, getting kicked out of his own room. Having no choice, he guessed he just had to sleep on the living room.
Or don't sleep at all.
The grandfather clock quietly ticking in the living room kept Sehun awake. Nursing a cup of tea in his hand, he sipped it while blinking drowsily.
He felt like shit.
Sehun was about to stand up and turn the lights off when he suddenly heard a loud noise akin to an explosion coming from the basement. Feeling like his heart jumping inside his chest, he looked around cautiously and leaned his ear down against the floor.
He heard it again, louder this time.
"Shit," Sehun muttered before running to his room to wake Junmyeon up. The older wouldn't budge so Sehun decided to go down by himself, carrying the keys to the basement with the flashlight on his phone turned on.
"What the hell happened!?"
Scrolling his phone, he immediately checked each CCTV feeds connected to the basement, scanning every camera supervising the dolls while he scurried down the stairs.
He stopped on his tracks, seeing one doll missing from its glass.
It's the seventy-inch 1990 Biedermeier China Doll.
None other than his favorite doll.
Opening the door of the basement with his heart ringing inside his ears, he dashed inside the collection and quickly ran towards the spot of the doll, finding the glass broken and empty.
"Fuck... Where is it!?"
His heart crumbled at the sight. He felt like crying. With trembling fingers he dialed the police to report a possible robbery. He looked around the place in search for traces but he couldn't find any. He didn't want to jump into conclusion but there was only one suspect who would steal his doll.
Park Chanyeol.
[Hello. This is Sokcho Police Department. What can I do for you?]
"Hello, I want to report---"
Sehun froze when he heard a laugh.
A giggle, to be more precise.
Stepping closer towards the voice, he turned his head around.
And then he saw it.
A beautiful male dancing in the dark.
[...excuse me, Sir? Hello?]
He hung up the call.
Sehun stood there, unmoving, as he watched how the young man skipped and twirled on his toes, dancing like a ballerina. It was like he was hearing his own music as he gracefully moved in his nudity, carefree and happy. He was giggling and humming, and for a moment Sehun forgot why he was here in the first place.
The pretty male finally stopped, noticing that someone was observing him. He turned around, and the moment their eyes met, Sehun felt something sparked inside of him.
"Hello."
Sehun stepped back, his eyes widening in surprise realizing the current situation. The petite male before him looked exactly alike to his doll. He also had wide doe-eyes and soft blond hair, his skin was pure and smooth like porcelain. He was as tall as his doll.
Looking at him, he could say that he was the exact replica of his doll as if it had just come to life.
"Hello, my owner."
How the hell is this possible? What kind of sorcery is this?
"My name is Luhan," the living doll said, bowing politely at him before looking up with his brightest smile. "I've been living inside the glass for a long time. It feels really nice now that I can talk and move."
"H-how did this happen?" Sehun asked, "Y-you're a doll---" He looked at the broken glass, pointing at it. "D-did you jump out of there?"
"I don't know either," Luhan said, grinning. "I just know that I'm now finally alive and I was given a life by the Chinese Gods to stay by your side."
Sehun shook his head, laughing. He slapped himself. "I'm really insane. A doll is talking to me."
"You're not insane! And I'm real!" Luhan said, then he walked towards Sehun and stretched his hand, "Touch my hand for you to find out."
Sehun glared, "No, that's not it. You're Mr. Park's accomplice, aren't you? Did you steal my doll?"
"No. That doll you were talking about was me." Luhan pointed to himself. "I'm really your doll and I'm telling the truth." He stepped closer and grasped Sehun's hand himself, shaking it. "Oh! It feels warm. So is this how skin feels like?"
He hugs Sehun, pushing him down the floor.
"G-get off me! Aaahh!!!!"
Sehun passed out after that.
-
Sehun woke up in the morning with a throbbing headache. There were dark rings under his eyes and his entire body hurt. Memories of last night flashed back in his mind, causing him to laugh dryly to himself.
"What a weird dream."
Or that was what he thought.
He saw a hand on top of his thigh.
"What the fuck!?"
Flinching in shock, he slowly turned beside him, seeing a lump on top of the bed. Carefully and oh so slowly, he lifted the blanket using his index finger to reveal what was underneath.
It was the doll, sleeping with its mouth hanging open.
"AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!"
Sehun fell off the bed, also waking the male doll in his sleep.
"You! What the hell are you doing here!?" Sehun blurted out while he sat on the floor.
Luhan stretched like a cat and rubbed his eyes in the cutest way possible. "Good morning, my owner." He smiled. "How was your head? Does it still hurt?"
"W-w-what are you talking about!?"
"You hit your head when you fell on the floor, don't you remember?" Luhan laughed. "I couldn't carry you on my back so I just dragged you all the way to your room. I hope you didn't mind!"
Sehun stared in disbelief, letting the current situation sink in. So this was what's happening--- a doll in his collection came to life before his eyes. He had a name which was Luhan, and that doll Luhan was now smiling brightly at him, and that doll Luhan...
Was the most beautiful being he had ever seen in his entire life.
"Oh my fucking god... This is crazy... I am crazy..."
Luhan giggled, "Surprise?"
Sehun eyed the doll suspiciously. "Did you sleep on the bed beside me?"
"Yes."
"Did you do anything weird to me?"
"Hmm. What are you talking about?"
"Nevermind," Sehun said, rolling his eyes, "A doll won't understand anyway."
"Thank you for letting me sleep here," Luhan said, then he got up and rubbed his stomach, feeling something funny inside. It groaned. "Is this what you call hunger? I want to eat food."
"Will you please get dressed at least?" Sehun said, rummaging into his closet and grabbing a random shirt. He also got a pair of shorts and threw it to the doll. "There. Wear it."
"Wow, my very first clothes!" Luhan said with shining eyes as he put on Sehun's clothes which are too big for him, "Thank you so much, Sehun!"
"Wait. How did you know me?"
"Of course, I know you. You're Sejun's son, right?" Luhan replied, "I know you since you were this small." He gestured at his waist. "I still remember you telling your Dad that you liked me and you wanted to take me to school for show and tell."
"W-when did I say that?" The tips of Sehun's ears were blushing.
"You said that when you were eleven. I was watching inside the glass all these years, you know."
"Well. You're indeed creepy."
"I'm not creepy. I'm pretty," Luhan said, smiling, "You said that, right?"
"When did I sa---"
"At the exhibition yesterday."
A persistent knock on the door interrupted them.
"Sehun! Wake up, you lazy ass!" Junmyeon screamed, fumbling with the doorknob.
"Oh shit! Hide!" Sehun said, pulling Luhan and shoving him under the bed. "He shouldn't see you here!"
"What, why!?" Luhan asked in confusion as he tried to show his head. Sehun pushed him down.
"Just hide yourself and don't make a noise!"
"What's taking you so long to open the door?" the older asked, eyeing Sehun meticulously. His eyes trailed on the messy bed then back at Sehun's face. He lifted an eyebrow. "Were you..."
"W-what?"
"Were you jacking off?"
Sehun scrunched his face meanwhile Luhan under the bed furrowed his eyebrows curiously.
"What the hell are you talking about? You know that's not my thing," Sehun put his hands on Junmyeon's shoulders to turn him around. He pushed him out of the door. "I'm gonna take a shower now. Goodbye." Then he closed the door in front of his face.
"Hey! You were watching porn, weren't you!?"
"No!" Sehun sneered. "Why is he so damn nosy."
"What is jacking off?" Luhan asked.
"That's exercise."
"Oh. Exercise."
"What is porn then?" Luhan asked again the moment Sehun had gone out of the bathroom. The male saw his doll on the bed, swaying his feet like a kid. "Your cousin said it a while ago."
"That," Sehun pulled out a nice long sleeves and necktie, wearing them. "That's art."
"Art?"
"Yes."
"I like art!"
Sehun laughed to himself, and Luhan stared at him for a while, admiring Sehun that is an art.
-
"Where are you going, my owner? Can I come with you?"
"No. Just stay here."
Luhan had been following him everywhere around the mansion. Sehun told him to just stay still until he figured out what he'd do to him. He tried searching the internet for any possible cases regarding a doll becoming alive but he found none. There was one result though, that said it also happened to him. He later discovered that the doll he owned was battery-operated.
About to go outside, Sehun stopped on his tracks and turned around to face the doll following him. Luhan flinched, having his owner staring down curiously at him.
"Hmm," Sehun hummed, trailing his eyes at the doll also looking back innocently at him, "What if you also have batteries?"
"Batteries?" Luhan asked, and when Sehun abruptly grabbed his shoulders, he gasped in surprise. "What are you doing, Sehun?"
"Turn around," Sehun commanded, lifting Luhan's shirt and palming the expanse of his smooth back using his hand. He also looked under his arm, along the torso, and even his butt. "Where could be the screw located at?"
"I-it tickles," Luhan said, feeling a new-found sensation now that he was being caressed gently all over his skin. It was the first time he was feeling this kind of warmth. It was electrifying at the same time soothing to say the least.
Sehun turned Luhan's body around so that he is directly facing him.
"I couldn't find the power source. Should I cut you open?"
"I don't have batteries," Luhan said, "Like I said, I was given a life by the Chinese Gods. I'm a human now just like you." He smiled. "I'm here to keep you company."
"And why should I believe you?"
"Because there is no greater explanation than what I just told you," Luhan said, "I'm a blessing from heaven."
Sehun laughed, shaking his head, then he muttered to himself, "Good thing I didn't sell you to Mr. Park."
"What?"
"Nothing." Sehun grabbed his bag and car keys. He was late for his class, "I said I'm leaving. Look after the house while I'm gone. I'll be back this afternoon."
Luhan frowned, running after Sehun until they reach the car. "Can't I come with you to the university? I promise I'd behave!"
Sehun opened the door and shoved his stuff before taking the driver's seat. Persistent, Luhan let himself in and positioned at the backseat. He grinned when Sehun glared at him at the rear-view mirror of the car.
"Get off."
"No." Luhan crossed his arms over his chest. "I was in the glass case for decades and it had been really lonely. Now that I have the chance, I'd like to see the world with you." He looked at Sehun with eyes begging. "Can't you just let me do that?"
How could Sehun ignore this heartwarming look? Luhan had his lips jutting out as he pouted at him, and Sehun really had a soft spot for cute dolls. Luhan was his favorite doll for after all.
"Fine." Luhan rejoiced instantly when Sehun said that. "Just promise me one thing."
"What is it? What is it!?"
"Don't go anywhere away from my sight," Sehun stated. "Understood?"
Luhan furiously nodded. "Yes, Sir!"
During each of Sehun's lecture, Luhan would sit at the very back corner of the hall as he listened to Professor Oh, pretending to be also a student. Sehun would give him a glance from the front while Luhan smiled at him encouragingly, and Sehun would admit that delivering the lessons for today was kind of rejuvenating.
"So this is what you do when you're out and not taking care of the dolls," Luhan said as he chewed the sandwich Sehun bought for him. His mouth was still full as he gulped the juice they bought at the cafeteria. "Wow! This is delicious!"
"This is nothing compared to a real dinner," Sehun said, watching his doll eat in amusement, "Let's go to a restaurant next time."
Luhan stared at him with shining eyes.
Sehun looked away.
"I-I'm not saying it's gonna be a date," he reasoned out while rubbing his nape, "Don't think of anything else. It's gonna be just a dinner."
"Anything is fine as long as I'm with you," Luhan said, staring at Sehun with adoration. "You're everything that I have, my owner."
A passing student glanced at them suspiciously.
"Will you stop saying that?" Sehun whispered, then he cleared his throat, "People might misunderstood. Just call me by my name.
Luhan shrugged, "Okay, my owner."
-
When Sehun went out of his room the next day, he knew already that Junmyeon was beyond furious. There were practically fumes coming out of his nose as he dropped his phone in front of Sehun.
Sehun looked at the screencapped picture of the CCTV feed at the basement.
"Tell me the truth." Junmyeon slammed the table. "Did you sell the doll without telling me!?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Sehun, the glass is fucking empty! Where could the doll possibly be!?"
"Maybe he just went to the bathroom," Sehun shrugged.
"I'm not kidding, you bastard!" Junmyeon yelled. "You know how your father treasured the dolls like they're his own daughters! And you just!" He groaned in frustration and pulled his hair. "How could you do this!?"
"Hey. Calm down, okay?" Sehun stood up and held his cousin's shoulders, guiding him to sit on the chair. "I decided not to tell you because I knew you'd freak out. But I guess you still need to know the truth."
"Oh my god, I knew it! When did you meet Mr. Park!? Where did you put the money!?"
"No, listen." Sehun sighed. "I didn't sell the doll. It wasn't stolen either."
Junmyeon side-eyed him. "So where is it?"
"The doll came to life, Junmyeon. It moved out of the glass by its own."
A moment of silence enveloped the living room as the cousins stared at each other.
Sehun smiled. "The doll's name was Luhan and he is staying with us now. He asked me to use the bathroom because he ate a lot of dumplings yesterday." He chuckled. "He got indigestion."
The look on Sehun's face was very priceless as he talked about the doll, and Junmyeon felt tears coming out of his eyes. "Oh, lord." He looked up to the sky while clutching his chest. "Oh my god. What happened to my cousin." He hugged Sehun dearly. "Why did he become crazy!? Buddha! Please have mercy on him!"
"What the hell? Will you stop it," Sehun shoved him away, "I know it's really hard to believe but I'm telling you the truth! Luhan, that doll, is alive!"
"Don't give me that bullshit. I know you've been lonely but that's not enough reason for you to fantasize about a doll," Junmyeon said. "Come back to your senses!"
"I told you, I'm not lying!" Sehun argued. "Do I look like I'm making up stories!? Luhan is real! He! Is! Fucking! Alive!"
"Shit! You seriously hit your head so bad!" Junmyeon said, grabbing his wrist, "Come with me, I'm taking you to the doctor!"
"SEHUN! I kind of clogged your toilet and my poop wouldn't flush down!"
Junmyeon stopped, turning to that voice.
"I'm sorry, Sehun! I don't know how to use this, though!"
Right in front of him, he saw a pretty male wearing an oversized hoodie holding a plunger and a roll of toilet paper.
"Just leave it there. It'll go down on its own," Sehun said, waving a hand. Luhan noticed that there was someone with Sehun who was now ogling at him, so he smiled and bowed at the man, putting the toilet paper and plunger away.
"Hello, my name is Luhan," Luhan introduced himself. "You must be Sehun's cousin! I only saw you from up the glass, though. I didn't know you'd be this handsome up close!"
Sehun stood beside his doll and slung an arm over his shoulder, slightly taking Luhan by surprise.
Sehun grinned. "I told you, he's real."
Junmyeon passed out after that.
"Are you sure he's okay?"
"Yeah. He just got shocked."
"Oh my god... It's my fault."
"Don't worry about him. He's not gonna die yet."
"Excuse me?" Luhan waved his hand while Junmyeon blinked slowly, seeing a face too close to him, "Hello, can you hear me?"
"Who.. Who are you..."
"I told you, I'm Luhan. I'm Sehun's doll."
"Oh my god, am I dreaming?" Junmyeon got up while holding his head with Sehun assisting him. "How could this happen, I mean-- he's a doll." He pointed at Luhan grinning at him. "You were just in the glass the last time I saw you and now you're here talking..."
"The Chinese Gods brought me to life," Luhan answered, "I was given to Sehun as a gift. That's what I believe."
"Are you sure he's not battery-operated?" Junmyeon turned to his cousin. "Have you checked his body yet?"
"That's what I thought, too, but he's not a robot nor a toy doll. He's human like us. I already checked every part of his body---" Sehun trailed his eyes from Luhan's head and stopped at his crotch. "Well, except from that part."
"Hey!" Luhan's cheeks turned pink. He quickly covered his crotch using his hands. "That was rude!"
"Honestly, he's kinda cute," Junmyeon whispered to Sehun, "What are you planning to do with him?"
"I guess I'l just let him stay with me," Sehun said, chuckling. "He's mine after all."
"Hmm, okay? If you say so," Junmyeon threw him a fishy stare. "I'm glad you found someone now."
"And what the hell does that look mean?"
Junmyeon left with an annoying laugh, leaving the two alone. "Finally! You're not gonna die a virgin! Thank god!"
"What does a virgin mean?" Luhan asked.
Sehun just slapped his face.
-
Because Sehun was indeed a good 'owner', he took Luhan on the weekend to the department store to shop new clothes and shoes for him. His doll must have pretty stuff and belongings to be called a doll, and Sehun was more than willing to dress him up. It was fun and satisfying seeing Luhan trying the clothes he wanted to see on him. Luhan had been naked inside the glass for decades after all.
Luhan thanked him for all the gifts he received by means of a chaste kiss on the cheek.
"The hell was that for," Sehun rubbed his cheek still tingling with Luhan's lips. He plopped on his bed while his doll sat beside him. They just got home from the mall and he felt really tired today.
"Don't just do something like that whenever we're in public." Sehun glared at him. "It's inappropriate."
"So I could do that in private, then?"
Sehun blushed. "No."
Luhan broke into a series of laughter, "I'm just kidding, my owner." He scooted closer to Sehun on the bed until their bodies were flushed against each other, until his head was leaning on top of Sehun's chest, and until his arms were wrapped around Sehun's waist.
They stayed comfortably like that in silence. No one talked, just basking each other's warmth and feeling each other's breath this close. Sehun had his hand on Luhan's hair, playing with it and threading the softness of it through his fingers.
"I'm sleepy..."
"Sleep then."
"But I still want to talk to you," Luhan mumbled, gazing up to him. "I still want to look at you and hear your voice."
One thing Sehun learned about his doll, was he is extremely clingy and affectionate. He liked physical contact too much. He liked slinging his hand around him. He liked leaning against him and holding his arm. He liked hugging him and cuddling next to him. Well, not that Sehun was complaining, though. Luhan was a non-living before, so now that he had the sense of feeling, he was taking every chance he got to use it to Sehun.
"Luhan."
"Yes?"
"What if you were right," Sehun stared at the ceiling as he held Luhan inside his arms, "What if the Chinese Gods really gave me you because they knew I was lonely?" He looked down at him. "Can I trust you to make me happy?"
"Of course!" Luhan said. "That's my purpose why I'm here." He snuggled closer to Sehun's body. "And it's up to you whether you accept me or not."
Sehun scoffed, faking annoyance, "Well, do I look like I still have a choice?"
"Do you want me to stay by your side forever?" Luhan asked after a brief silence. "Will you take care of me, Sehun?"
Sehun studied the way how Luhan's eyes glimmer. They were beautiful already when he was still a non-living doll, but he deemed they looked prettier now that he was blessed with life. He could see himself being reflected through them, and maybe this is the first time he was feeling this kind of comfort.
It felt surreal.
"You're mine, of course, I'll take care of you," Sehun answered, smiling at him, "You're my favorite among the collection after all. You're my Luhan after all."
"That's good to hear then," Luhan said, and he failed to contain his smile spreading his lips. "Now, I'm finally at ease."
Sehun lifted an eyebrow. "And what do you mean by that?"
"I'm actually jealous of that doll, you know." Luhan rolled his eyes, pouting. "That Cecilia."
Sehun laughed softly, "And why is that?"
"She was always the center of the collection and she had pretty clothes! While me, I just stood there naked for years."
"Good thing I'm not interested with female dolls," Sehun hummed, "Let alone girls in general."
"Oh," Luhan's mouth formed into an o shape, blinking at Sehun, "Oh."
"Yes, that's my last name."
"I don't actually get it but I think my heart is beating so fast right now," Luhan said curiously as he held his chest, "Does that mean I don't like girls, too?"
"Certainly! You should only like me. That's your purpose in life, remember?"
"Okay," Luhan said, nodding his head, "You should only like me too, so it'll be fair!"
"Well. It depends?"
"And why is that?"
Sehun hummed, "It depends whether you're still pretty tomorrow and the next day, and the next next day."
"I'm gonna be always pretty!" Luhan firmly said, "I'll be the prettiest in your eyes!"
"You already are," Sehun said, and then he leaned closer to Luhan's forehead and pressed a soft kiss against it with his eyes closed. Luhan felt his heart melting at the action as his whole face burned hot.
"I feel like my heart is gonna jump out of my chest now, Sehun! Is this normal for humans?"
"No. I think you're sick."
"Oh my god! Am I gonna die!? Ahhhh!"
"Silly. You're not gonna die."
Sehun slept that night with an extra warmth beside him, and he guessed he should get used to it soon, having someone lying next to him this near.
"Good night, Sehun."
And having someone tell him good night before he slept.
"Good night, Luhan."
