An Analysis of the ChanBaek Moment During Sehun Time on Peter Pan in EXOluxion in Manila D-1

1. NOTE BEFORE READING

This is not a fiction. This is not a one shot. This written work is factual, so it only means that all of what you'll be reading in this part truly happened on January 23, 2016 based on my OWN perspective. I attended the concert so I saw the ChanBaek moment live. I watched the video closely, too. Meticulously, slowly and even in different angles with my two hawk eyes!

So, as promised as I said on Facebook, and to satisfy my overflowing feels, I've decided to write my personal view, hypothesis, analysis, opinion and observation about the said topic.

I just want to remind you guys that we all have different beliefs, so I'm not saying that I am the only right, or what's written here are verified true. THIS IS JUST MY PERSONAL POINT OF VIEW AND IT'S UP TO YOU WHETHER TO BELIEVE IT OR NOT.

If you haven't watched the close fancam of this yet, I suggest you watch it first so you can understand what I'm going to talk about here.

2. SEHUN KNOWS CHANBAEK

First, the music, Peter Pan, stopped and the members froze. In this segment of EXOluxion, Sehun (the only member who can move) would choose two frozen members whom he will manipulate. The chosen members would stay frozen and let Sehun pull them, move their bodies, arms and heads until the music plays again.

Out of all members, why Sehun? He's the youngest. He can do whatever he wants with the hyungs. On the past EXOluxions, he made Xiumin and Jongdae kiss, even Suho and Jongdae. And D.O too. Or vice versa. I forgot if he has already chosen Lay. Please tell me if you know.

So now, back to the topic. Have you noticed? NEVER in before Sehun chose Chanyeol and Baekhyun together.

Never in before.

Only in EXOluxion in Manila.

But why?

Maybe he knew the Philippines has a lot of Chanbaek shippers? Or maybe he felt like doing it at that moment? Or maybe he has been told to do so?

Or maybe. Maybe he sensed or he knew, something MUST be going on between the two. Maybe he wanted to tease the fans. Or tease Chanyeol and Baekhyun? I don't know, but one thing is for sure. He knew something about them.

3. BAEKHYUN WAS WAITING.

The fans were screaming loudly when the music paused, and ''Sehun Time'' started. That moment, I wasn't expecting anything because I already knew Sehun's going to choose XiuChen, as usual.

But that's what I thought.

I was completely wrong.

The first few seconds, Sehun walked behind Chanyeol (who was currently holding a mic and doing a V-sign while frozen). He passed by him and marched playfully towards Xiumin, who was currently sitting on a chair due to his injury. He peeked at his face and teased him by pulling up his shirt to show the fans his abs, but he failed. At this time, both Chanyeol and Baekhyun were looking at them. Chanyeol pointed at something in particular, maybe at Xiumin's reaction hiding his abs.

Sehun was done with the oldest, so he went to the person standing beside Xiumin. To none other than, Baekhyun.

And the fans broke into chaos.

The whole crowd was screaming on top of their lungs, including me, like I would die anytime because I just got that jittery feeling that Sehun will finally make my dream come true.

And he really did.

I was holding my breath when Sehun grabbed Baekhyun by both arms, and pushed him towards Chanyeol who was standing on the other side few feet away from Baekhyun. Surprisingly, Baekhyun didn't even resist.

He didn't fucking resist.

He didn't hide, run, turn his back, nor walked away.

Instead, he was so cooperative. He walked towards Chanyeol by his own free will (with Sehun assisting him from behind). And wait! Wait. He had his eyes closed.

Yes. Eyes closed.

While smiling.

What I said was right. He was smiling!

You can see that he seemed to be containing his smile because his face was all composed unlike his usual sassy and teasing facial expression. It was really different from the Baekhyun I know. If it were the other members and not Chanyeol, I'm sure he would grin teasingly at them as he make a funny face, seductive even.

But with Chanyeol, he looked SUPER peaceful and calm. Like he was really okay with it. Like he was expecting this moment. Like he really liked this to happen. Like he didn't mind anything Sehun will be doing at them.

I stared at Baekhyun's face. Was he waiting for SOMETHING? Something that required EYE CLOSING?

Why did he close his eyes?

In my opinion, I think he closed his eyes because he was feeling shy. He knew any minute from now, Chanyeol would be facing him inches away from his position. Come to think of it. It would be really uncomfortable if he opened his eyes and saw a person walking towards him. He didn't want to see Chanyeol's reaction (which will be discussed later.)

So, I guess, he decided to just close his eyes to feel safe. It would be much comfortable if he couldn't see anything.

3. CHANYEOL RESISTED.

Chanyeol was still doing a V-sign when he saw Baekhyun getting closer and closer. What he did that time was to step aside. Like he wasn't prepared for this. Like he wanted to escape but he just COULDN'T. He then turned his back away while still doing a v-sign. While Baekhyun was waiting there with his eyes closed, the fans were shouting and yelling as Sehun worked with Chanyeol.

(Remember that during the scenes written below, Baekhyun couldn't see what was happening because he closed his eyes.)

First attempt: Sehun grabbed Chanyeol by the arm with force to face Baekhyun (whose eyes were still closed). Chanyeol only moved a little, he was not totally facing Baekhyun, he was facing the fans.

Second attempt: Sehun held Chanyeol again by the shoulder and tilted him so that the taller could finally face a waiting Baekhyun.

Third attempt: Sehun held Chanyeol by the neck when Chanyeol tried to turn around again. Chanyeol had a mic pressed against his chin, which was not even necessary. Though he was smiling that time, he looked anxious like he wanted to say something. He was holding the mic tightly with both hands. I don't know if for defense mechanism because he was nervous, or he really just wanted to speak out loud.

As much as how Chanyeol wanted to maybe explain, he knew from the start that he wasn't supposed to talk at the moment, nor say what he wanted to say. He wasn't allowed to.

Fourth attempt: Sehun knocked Chanyeol's head three times. I laughed at this, maybe he was getting impatient because Chanyeol was a little bit stubborn. He wasn't being cooperative. Sehun slung an arm around Chanyeol's shoulder when the taller FINALLY faced Baekhyun. He did it for Chanyeol not to move again.

4. THE HEIGHT DIFFERENCE

This moment, Chanbaek was now facing each other! Maybe their bodies were just only a foot away far. Baekhyun's eyes were still shut, and he had his head slightly ducked down. Still smiling, though.

While Chanyeol, on the other hand, had his head in normal position. Don't forget the mic. He still had that fucking mic pressed against his chin.

He knew that he's tall. He knew Baekhyun wouldn't reach his face when he did just like that, standing tall and stiff. He also knew that if he had the mic on his chin like a blocker, he wouldn't be able to kiss Baekhyun (like what Sehun wanted, like ALL of us wanted).

Sehun put his hand behind Chanyeol's head and tried his best to FORCEFULLY push him towards Baekhyun. He had his left hand behind Baekhyun's back while his right on Chanyeol's nape. Because really, ChanBaek's height difference is very big. Chanyeol is too tall and Baekhyun is short, so Sehun was having a hard time to push the two together.

So that was why, Sehun thought, maybe hugging would be the best option.

5. AWKWARD MOMENT

Chanyeol was fucking making his body stiff as a rock so that Sehun couldn't be able to push him no matter how he tried. Baekhyun knew that Sehun was going to shove him against Chanyeol, so, as a defense mechanism, he bowed his head low.

Sehun pushed the two again, and Chanyeol was moving his body away from Baekhyun.

Unlike Baekhyun.

I watched closely and realized that Baekhyun was fucking leaning his head forward. Like he was expecting that if he did that, his forehead would meet Chanyeol's chest. Like if he did that, he would feel some physical contact with his eyes currently still closed.

Baekhyun's head met Chanyeol's knuckles though, on Chanyeol's hand holding the mic. Sehun pushed them again, making Baekhyun's red hat disarranged.

Now, the question is, why was Chanyeol acting that way?

Based on my opinion, he acted that way because he felt awkward.

There were more than twenty thousand EXO-L's inside the MOA Arena who were screaming crazily for them to kiss. God, who would want that? That would be fucking uncomfortable. Think if it were you and someone (special or a friend you know. Read: Of the same gender.) Would you want that? In public?

Let's just say that all EXO members are very close friends. And there's Chanyeol and Baekhyun-- who are very close, and who are, I don't know, I'm not sure about this but.

But.

If you're just friends with someone you won't get awkward around them, right.

If you're just friends with someone, you won't feel shy around them.

If you're friends with someone, you could just stare at their eyes and laugh and ride along with your other friends' jokes.

So why did Chanyeol act that way then? Again, he could have gone with the flow normally and did the fake kiss with Baekhyun so that they could get that through.

But he didn't.

So I think, there MUST be something going on. And I think ChanBaek has it.

5. THE INTIMATE HUG

Knowing he couldn't do something about Chanyeol, Sehun switched to Baekhyun who is smaller. He's softer and wasn't that hard to maneuver so it was easier.

Baekhyun unconsciously fixed his hat, making his guard open. His body was open because he had his hands on his head. This time, Chanyeol made a move and tried to pull him close but failed. Baekhyun was still inches away, so Sehun somewhat helped.

Baekhyun looked like he didn't know what would happen next (because he was preoccupied with his hat), so when Sehun had the chance, next time Baekhyun knew, he was effortlessly shoved against Chanyeol's chest. Fast.

Sehun semi-hugged Baekhyun and pushed him against Chanyeol's body. Having this happened, Chanyeol immediately put his one hand on the small of Baekhyun's back, and pulled him closer for an embrace.

I fucking screamed and cried at this part like my heart was pounding so hard, seeing Chanbaek with my own two eyes hugging live. Fuck. Chanyeol was hugging him. He had his both hands around Baekhyun's waist, that you couldn't find any space separating their bodies.

This time, Baekhyun completely removed his hat because maybe, he thought it was blocking Chanyeol's face. After that, he hugged Chanyeol back. He really looked so adorable like that, with a red hat clutched in his left hand and his mic on the right hand. His arms were wrapped around Chanyeol as he buried his face against Chanyeol's chest, still smiling.

The fans inside the Arena went crazy, but Baekhyun, he was just silently smiling as he hugged Chanyeol. He was not saying anything while the crowd was too noisy hyperventilating.

I cried and my heart melted when I saw this, because Baekhyun looked so weak and tired that time. He looked so small and protected inside Chanyeol's arms.

6. SEHUN, SUHO AND CHEN'S REACTION DURING THE HUG

Sehun whispered something to the both of them as he pushed them together until he let them go. His face showed it all, he was smiling with a glint in his eyes. I told you, he probably knows something.

For the other two, Chen and Suho, I had to watch a different fancam focused on them as they watched Chanbaek hug. These two members, aside from Sehun, are the Witnesses/Thirdwheelers of Chanbaek in everything, be it V-app, interviews, photoshoots, etc.

As he watched them hug, Chen was smiling knowingly like a proud third-wheeler that he is. He was just standing there by the side as he smiled beside Suho. Suho, who looked like a proud Dad, was smiling too, as he let out few laughs. He glanced away shortly, and looked again at them, and you can see that his facial expression remained happy and all-smiles.

7. CHANYEOL PUSHED BAEKHYUN AWAY.

Baekhyun obviously didn't want the hug to end shortly. He was still hugging Chanyeol tightly with his head now pressed against Chanyeol's lower face. Baekhyun's fluffy black hair was covering Chanyeol's jaw, mouth, nose and cheeks, so I wasn't able to see Chanyeol's face that time.

During the hug as Chanyeol held Baekhyun, I noticed that Chanyeol was saying something to Sehun, or vice-versa, because the angle looked liked his face (which was covered by Baekhyun's hair) was against Sehun's ear. Sehun moved away after he said something back, making Chanyeol fall, like he lost his balance. Maybe Chanyeol meant that, or intended to do that so that he could be in level with Baekhyun's left shoulder.

Baekhyun didn't want to let him go, so he had his hands on Chanyeol's back like a kid hugging his Mom.

And the big asshole that he was, Chanyeol pushed Baekhyun away.

He held Baekhyun's left arm, the one that was on top of his shoulder. He pulled it down so that Baekhyun could finally release him. Baekhyun couldn't do anything because Chanyeol had already pushed him away, so he just smiled shyly as he wore his hat again.

8. THE MUSIC PLAYED.

Chanyeol ran away like a flash of lightning, because maybe he was too embarrassed of what they did. Baekhyun then was left alone on the stage fixing his hat with a big smile on his face. When I say big smile, his teeth were showing unlike earlier. When he was done, he skipped towards the direction of the others, like he was just as embarrassed as Chanyeol.

But I felt that he was happy, though, because the way he walked was still composed and calm. Like he looked contented, albeit a little shy.

9. END NOTES

After the scene happened, I actually couldn't move on fast. The show continued like nothing happened, but my brain and my heart were just starting to sink in all the happenings. I was holding a lightstick and staring at the silver ocean but my mind was still on Chanbaek. Did just that happened? I just saw that, didn't I? Oh god. Chanbaek hugged. Chanbaek hugged. Chanbaek hugged. I told myself that very moment at the concert I would definitely write about this, so that's why you are currently reading this now.

Good thing after five minutes or so, I was back again in the game. I pushed Chanbaek thoughts away and focused again at EXO's performance.

10. CONCLUSION

I therefore conclude based on these observations that Chanyeol is really an awkward giant towards Baekhyun. Only.

Baekhyun was just in his calm self waiting for something to happen but Chanyeol seemed to be on a different page. He was panicking internally, causing him to do those actions (turning back, resisting, pulling away) like he was so flustered facing his crush.

I thought to myself, what if it were D.O? He could have shoved his face against him because he loves teasing that guy. Maybe if it were Kai, he had already hugged him like there was no tomorrow. Maybe if it were Suho, he could have just hugged the leader and patted his back.

But with Baekhyun, why different?

It just showed that Baekhyun must be in a SPECIAL case.

What kind of special?
