[Tao] The Racer (part 2)
Your life suddenly felt like it was a part of the Need for Speed series. Long gone was the plain ol' dirtroad track, and was then replaced by the modern streets of Korea. Surprisingly, the car chase lasted for more than 5 minutes, which felt like an eternity, mind you. Tao somehow managed to lose three cars out of six, but there were still three left to deal with. And if this lasts a little more, the police would be involved in no time.
"Please don't hurt the innocent cars," you squeaked, and you could see Tao smile at the corner of your eye.
"No problem," He said and weaved through the cars. Thankfully, most of the "innocent cars" already moved aside to make way as soon as they realized that there was a furious car chase going on. So most of the problem now lies in how to lose those remaining three freakin cars.
"There's an alleyway there that leads to another street." You pointed a little farther ahead. You knew quite a bit of the nook and cranny of this city since you and Amber basically tours the place whenever you have free time. "Maybe we can lose them then."
"Nice. I thought you would just scream and shriek at me all the time that you don't wanna die." He chuckled. You would've slapped him on the head if only he wasn't driving for your lives.
"Oh shut up. Just take a right."
Screeching of tires was heard once again as he drifted and swiftly went into the narrow alleyway. You gripped the edge of your seat like you would fly out anytime soon, because the walls seriously looked like they were just an centimeters away from the car. And Tao was still driving 280 miles per hour, mind you.
"Which way?" He asked as he saw splitting ways ahead.
"R-right! TAKE RIGHT!"
Thankfully, he trusted your words even if you sounded frantic as hell. You turned around to check if the others were still hot on your tail. You couldn't see anything, but you could still hear roaring engines from far away.
You finally reached the streets again, and Tao didn't even slow down a second as he turned. You though he was going to head straight, but suddenly, he went into a McDerp Drive-Thru. (I was afraid to use brand names so I made mine. lol)
He only stopped as you reached the order window.
"Good morning sir... and maam..." The girl stated slowly, as she tried to take in the sight of a black racing car bathed in dirt outside her window, ordering from a fast food chain like it was nothing.
"What are you doing?" You hissed at Tao. You are in the middle of a nerve-wrecking car chase and he even had time to order at McDerp?!!
"They wouldn't see us here. Plus, I'm hungry." He shrugged before turning back to the girl. "Two large fries and two choco sundaes please."
You froze. You totally did not expect that from him. Well... he may not be that much of an asshole after all.
As soon as the order came, you bit your lip, not knowing what to say.
"Um.... thanks, I guess." You were about to get your food, but he suddenly hugged the whole plastic to himself.
"What are you talking about? This is mine."
Your jaw dropped open. Oh hell no. We take that back. Huang ZiTao is the most collosal asshole in the universe.
"Fine," you huffed and crossed your arms. Who needs fries and sundae anyway? That is like so full of calories and fats. He just chuckled as he placed the food on his side of the dashboard, making sure it was out of your reach. Then he slowly and carefully drived out of McDerps, which was definitely unexpected. Surprisingly, he still knew how to drive like an average human being.
"I think we lost them," he finally said after scanning all sides of the road. Oh, and he didn't forget to shove a mouthful of fries into his mouth as he spoke just to annoy you.
"Wow yay congratulations." You mumbled, the amount of sarcasm able to fill an olympic pool. He just chuckled, and steered right into a street that looked quite old. He continued driving straight, and your brows furrowed as you noticed that the modern houses slowly turned to simple ones, and the aslphalt slowly turned to a dirt road. You could see a grass field from far away.
"Where are we?"
"Somewhere peaceful," he simply said and continued smiling to himelf.
Tch, weirdo.
Eventually, he parked on the side of the road and finally unlocked the door. You went out, and almost moaned as the soft cool wind caressed your face. Because seriously, it would sound really weird if you moan out of nowhere.
Anyway, the place was very far from the busy streets of Seoul, so there was no other noise than the rustling of trees.
"Hey girlfriend," you whipped around at Tao's voice, and suddenly, fries were shoved into your face.
"YAH!" you screamed after struggling not to choke to death. "Are you trying to kill me?!!"
"You're welcome." He chuckled as he leaned against the hood of the car. He stood there in silence, dipping fries into his sundae as he watched the serene grassfield.
You just rolled your eyes and leaned beside him.
"Here," he finally gave you the fries and sundae you deserved.
"It's nice," you said after a while of silence, pertaining to the place. It seemed like the perfect place to go after an adrenaline-filled car chase. It helped calm down your nerves. "How did you know there was such place in the city?"
"I use to come here often." He said non-chalantly. "This was where I practiced driving and drifting. About thrice a week I guess, and sometimes even for the whole weekend. This was the only place where no one would freak out when they see a car burning its tires around."
You watched how his eyes sparkled as the memories flashed inside his head. You couldn't help but think that he actually looks ok when he's not looking smug and asshole-ish. How his hair softly waves around with the wind. How his adams apple bobs up when he swallows.
Oh who am I kidding. He looks hot all the time.
"How long have you been racing?"
"I've been driving since I was 14. I only started joining events a few months ago. I'm still a newbie, I guess."
"You don't seem like a newbie." You mused. His head snapped towards you, as if you said something so surprising.
"Wow, I never thought you would complement me."
"After being a jerk to me for the past 20 minutes, that is the only complement you would ever get from me."
"Hey, I gave you McDerps." He was trying to hold back another of his annoying smiles.
"And shoved it down my throat, thank you very much."
"At least I gave you some."
"I still think you're a jerk."
"And I still think you're Kris' girlfriend."
Your jaw dropped for the millionth time of the day.
"He was just flirting with me!"
"And you were flirting back."
If only you didn't know better, you would've thought his tone implied jealousy.
"I'm not Kris' girlfriend." You grumbled. His eyes were sparkling in amusement as he successfully annoyed you once again.
Suddenly, your phone vibrated in your pocket. There was a message from Amber.
"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU"
Oh yeah, you almost forgot about Amber. She must think you're kidnapped by freaking aliens already. Or an uneblievably arrogant but impossibly hot guy that's a legend in driving.
"I think I have to go now." Your stood upright, but Tao suddenly grabbed you hand. You froze as he looked at you straight in the eyes, as he was trying to say something, but couldn't.
"S-stay." He blinked several times, and quickly withrew his hand. You don't know exactly why, but there was something about the way he said it that made you blush.
As if at that second, you were able to see him without his wall of jerkness put up.
He cleared his throat and awkwardly gestured around.
"I mean, we can't go back yet. Those cars may still be out there."
You narrowed your eyes at him, amused that you saw him flustered for the first time. But you were trying hard not to smile like an idiot as well. You leaned back beside him, and continued feeling the soft wind caressing your hair.
He suddenly mumbled something that made you smile, probably not knowing that you heard him.
"It's a lot peaceful here, just you and me."
