[Tao] The Racer (part 1)

The heat, the noise, and the smell of burning rubber and asphalt combined was all new to you, but strangely, you liked the thrill it sent throughout your body. You stood right beside Amber, your bestfriend that brought you to this underground racing event, cheering as intensely as a die hard fan would. Amber said this was just an "Amateur Event," but to you, the racers were not amateur at all. They swerved and drifted as if they knew precisely where they would go.

This only made you wonder further why this was only held on an average dirtroad, when obviously these cars would fit high class arenas perfectly fine. They're not just awesome. They're like holy-shit-they're-so-awesome.

"I think that one would win." You said to Amber and pointed to the leading tribal-designed orange car. According to Amber, its nickname was Beetle.

"Nope, it would be that one," She said confidently, pointing to the sleek black car with a big "WØLF" printed on the side. You laughed.

"It's been sitting prettily at 3rd place all throughout the race. I don't think he'll be able to catch up this final lap."

"Beetle may be the 4-peat champion, but the 'WØLF' newbie seems to know what he's doing. His flicks are unexpected." Her eyes sparkled with confidence, making you doubt your choice. Amber has seen several of these tournaments so by now, she already knows a lot about these racers and their styles. You, on the other hand, only were a first timer in watching this kind of sport. But surprisingly, you were quickly getting the hang of it. And now you're even betting on who's gonna win.

"Ha! I told you!" Amber fist pumped as WØLF zoomed past Beetle and the other silver car, finishing the race as the new champion. Apparently, down at the last few seconds, he suddenly accelerated, and bumped the rears of the two cars ahead of him, making them both sway a little out of control. They immediately regained balance, yes, but it was already too late as he has already taken advantage of the distraction.

Amber was right. He really did know what he was doing.

"Come on, let's meet them." Amber ushered and both of you walked towards where the racers parked their car. A lot of other people were there too, trying to get as near as they could even if there was a steel barricade holding them back. Your brows furrowed when Amber headed straight to a big bulky bouncer that blocked the only way towards the racers' garage.

"Amber," she simply said even before the scary man could shoo you. Much to your surprise, he gave a small smile and nodded. He stepped aside to make way for both of you.

"What the hell is happening," you mumbled as you clutched the hem of Amber's shirt like a little helpless snail, suddenly feeling all self-concious. Just the sight of the racers coming out of their cars, with imaginary slo-mo effects and wind softly brushing against their hairs, made your heart want to fizzle and spark and explode all over the place.

"An organizer here is my uncle. I want to ask him where that WØLF newbie came from. He seems like a Grand Prix potential."

And then you gaped at her like a gigantic fish. You had no idea she had strong connections to these events. Gosh so that's why you didn't have to pay entrance fees earlier!

As you both reached a white door with a sign "Officials Only," Amber turned to you with a sorry look on her face.

"I'm sorry ______, but I have to leave you for a moment. Their security is strict in this part. Well, you could walk around and uhh... meet the racers I guess."

She gestured around the place, gave a warm smile and disappeared into the room. Suddenly, you felt like this little lost kitty as you stood there, alone. Crews were running everywhere pulling cars into respective garages to start fixing them, while the racers were walking around, drinking water or checking out their cars. Everyone seemed to have a purpose around here, except for you.

Ooookay. Let us just go back into the commoners' zone and stop being an awkward banana.

"Hey," a gloved hand suddenly patted your shoulder, making you whip around. There stood this very tall blonde guy, wearing an orange jacket with tribal patters running running down from the shoulders, similar to the Beetle's design. Could he be....?

"What brought a beautiful girl like you to this dusty place?"

"I... I was watching the race..." you stammered. Well duh woman of course all people here watched the race.

"I see. I'm Kris Wu by the way. I own that car over there." He pointed to the shiny orange car.

"You own the Beetle?" Your eyes widened. I mean who wouldn't pop out their eyeballs when they realize they're talking to a 4-Peat racing champion?!!

His eyes sparkled in amusement as you continued acting like an idiot in front of him. "And you are...?

"Oh. ______. I'm ______." You smiled as you accepted the handshake. But then you noticed that the contact lasted 5.00001 seconds longer than necessary. His gaze intensified as he stepped a bit closer, and you fought the urge to step back.

"So were you betting on anyone during the race?"

"Uhh... the Beetle, actually..." you bit your lip. It feels so absoderply awkward having to say that.

"Well then, I'm sorry to let you down. I didn't expect things wouldn't go as planned." He took another step forward, and you didn't have to be a genius to realize that he was actually flirting with you. But honestly, you liked it.

Well duh, he's the 4-Peat champion. And he's freakin flirting with you. It makes you feel like a fabulouz potato.

"For someone that lost for the first time, you seem to be taking your defeat quite calmly." You mused, looking down at your toes because you felt like you would melt under his intense gaze.

"Now that I know you were rooting for me, I have more than a thousand reasons why I shouldn't feel bad about it." He said lowly as he started playing with the hem of your shirt. You felt your internal organs do back flips and you bit your lip, trying not to smile like an idiot. Gawd this guy surely knows how to make a girl spazz.

"You're no longer the champion, that's why." A different voice spoke, and both of your heads snapped to the left. You saw this tall raven haired guy dressed in black leather jacket and plain white shirt underneath. He was casually leaning against a nearby wall as if he has been listening to your conversation all along.

"I didn't know the WØLF likes to eavesdrop on people's conversations." Kris' eyes narrowed, not even trying to hold back the venom in his voice. Meanwhile, you stood there between them, dumbstruck.

This guy was the WØLF's driver. He was the guy that defeated Kris. Like holy shmitz, are all the racers in here this hot?!!!

"I just wanted to come to introduce myself, to you know, pay respect, but then you were busy flirting with your girlfriend. I didn't want to interrupt."

"Oh, I'm not his-"

"Then go ahead, introduce yourself." Kris cut you off. The guy slightly chuckled before stepping forward.

"I'm Huang ZiTao, owner of the WØLF. Just call me Tao."

"Kris Wu. Owner of the Beetle." They shook hands, but there was something sinister about it. Kris gestured towards you.

"And this is-"

"Your girlfriend. Ok." He cut off, not looking very interested. You almost wanted to kick him in the balls. He may be handsome and really damn good at racing but his attitude is like hell no. Such an arrogant ass.

"Enjoy your victory while it lasts. I assure you I'll take it back soon."

"You can never be so sure." He smirked.

"I think you're too full of yourself, newbie." Kris narrowed his eyes. It was quite scary that he was starting to lose his cool.

"I have the reason to. At least I didn't win because of rigged results." Tao said, and something about the phrase made Kris snap and grab him by the collar. Still, he seemed so calm as if no one was going to punch him there and then.

"Come on, tell me I'm wrong." He challenged, eyes sparkling in amusement. But Kris didn't say anything and just kept glaring holes into his face. Your brows furrowed. Could it be that Tao was saying something true?

"Let's settle this then, right here and right now. 3 laps, just you and me, and no strings attached." Kris challenged.

"Fine." Tao smirked. "Just you and me."

Kris finally let go of his collar. As they continued glaring at each other, you felt as if you don't belong here at all. Heck, they even seemed to forget that you were even there. We might as well just leave and leave. So you took a step back.

"Um guys, I think I have to-"

"I'm taking your girlfriend." Tao suddenly grabbed your wrist and pulled you to his side.

Gosh, what is up with people cutting you off?!! There is a freaking right to speak you know?!!

"Why? You want her hostaged so I'd go easy on you?"

"So you'd stay true to your words. No strings attached. So you better win this time." He started walking towards his car, dragging you along with him. "If you don't, then I'm bringing her home with me."

WHAT IN THE FRICKIN HELL?

TAKE HOME WHO? ME? GODDAMNIT DO I LOOK LIKE A HUMAN RACING TROPHE?!!!

"Buckle up. It's gonna be bumpy." Tao said as soon as he shoved you into the passenger's seat. You tried to get out, but the door was locked.

"Get me out of here! I did not ask for this!"

But he ignored you and drove towards the starting line. You could already see the Beetle positioned there.

"Please let me out." You finally begged.

"You have no choice now. Buckle up, or else you're going to regret it."

Before you could argue, the car suddenly jolted forward, and you felt like all your internal organs were left back at the starting line. You scrambled for the seatbelt for the dear life of you.

"HOLY CHEESE MACARONI SLOW THE FUCK DOWN I SWEAR IF I DIE TODAY I'LL GO BACK AND HAUNT YOU FOREVER!!!"

"Sorry babe, slow is not in my vocabulary." Then he turned to wink at you.

"HOLY SHIET DON'T FRICKIN WINK YOU ARE DRIVING GODDAMNIT!!!"

He just chuckled and looked calm as ever as if he wasn't driving 280 miles per hour. "Calm down, you won't die today."

You just tried to breath in and out, hoping that time will quickly pass by and this will be done in a flash. But suddenly the car jolted sideways as Beetle rammed its side against the WØLF.

"Looks like your boyfriend doesn't care if you topple along with this car."

"That is a sick joke." You grumbled, trying to be as calm as possible. "And he's not my boyfriend."

"I kind of expected that, but I had to have something to hold on to, for the very least." He shrugged, and Beetle rammed into you once again.

"Now you're basically holding on to nothing. So surely your 'no strings attached' is already gone with the wind."

You hated the idea that you had a 95% chance to die here in Huang ZiTao's car.

"What did you even mean by the 'rigged results'? Was that even true?"

"Some of the organizers refrain newbies, like me, to win in tournaments when against the defending champion, especially when it's our first time joining." He answered as he expertly drifted along a sharp curve. Kris was slightly ahead of him. "He's a good racer, I give him that, but too bad for him I wasn't really into following rules. Especially when it rigs the results."

You didn't answer. So that's how rules work around here. After all, this was just an underground tournament.

"They say it's to keep the excitement high, but fuck the excitement; I did not come here to lose." He hissed and suddenly, he rammed into the rear of the Beetle. You just passed the starting point, and it was already the final lap. Tao's grip on the steering wheel visibly tightened and you saw the speed meter climb to the max number. Holy shmitz this guy is insane.

"Hold on," You quickly did as told, and the car immediately drifted as it went along, and dust started flying everywhere. Tao switched on his lights and returned to driving straight like a normal human being.

"I CAN'T SEE WHERE WE'RE GOING!!!!"

"Chill, babe. I got this."

You heard screeching of tires. The dust slowly dispersed, and much to your surprise, the Beetle was there in the rear view mirror, parked awkwardly outside of the track. Tao has momentarily blinded him, and it worked. Kris went out of the car, and he seemed pissed.

Your jaw hung open. Tao may be so arrogant and full of himself, but he surely could back it up. Amber's right; he really is a Grand Prix potential. He drives like no other.

"Uhh, you already won." You slowly said as you passed the finish lane. "Why aren't you slowling down?"

"I told him I'll take you home with me if I win, right?"

Your eyes almost jumped out of your head. "ARE YOU SERIOUSLY GOING TO-"

"Just kidding, Kris' girlfriend." he laughed.

"I told you, he's not my boyfriend! And my name is ______, for pete's sake." You hissed. "But seriously, why aren't you slowing down?"

He nodded towards the rear view mirror. Indeed, there were like 6 cars trying to catch up with Tao. "They're chasing after us. I knew they wouldn't let me get out of here alive when I defeat their most beloved champion."

"So what are we gonna do now?"

He turned to you with this small smile, which for the first time, didn't look like an annoying smirk. your heart suddenly pumped in a strange way, making you feel light headed and warm all over.

"We run away."
